Everyone has goals they want to achieve. However, only some try to work towards these goals. However, the recipe for success involves many ingredients, most importantly involving a mix of hard work, good mindset, and goal setting. One of the most important parts of achieving success is hard work. We can see just how important hard work is in the article “Dedicated to the Goal”, by Marty Kaminsky, when Kaminsky claims that Carli Lloyd,”searched the neighborhood for tougher challenges, playing anyone who was willing" (8). Carli Lloyd looking for new challenges proves that not working to get better won’t get you very far. Having a good mindset is shown to be important in an article called “Cultivate Resilience:How to Get Back on the Horse” by Rebecca Zucker, when a study from Carol Dweck, where she gave kindergarten students questions that progressively got harder, and this article claims that, “Essentially, the fixed-mindset kids said, “no,” because they didn’t want to risk getting the harder problem wrong, which would either make them feel stupid, look bad or prove that, despite what their parents have told them, they are not that smart after all”(7). Students with a bad mindset, or fixed mindset, didn’t want to get anything wrong, so they’re not going to learn from the mistakes they might make. But on the other hand, the kids with a growth mindset took on the harder problems, allowing them to learn from their mistakes and get better. Another part of “Dedicated to the Goal” also proves this, when Kaminsky states that once Carli Lloyd was struggling, but now, "Endurance, mental toughness, and determination are now her strengths" (13). Setting goals is an important tool for achieving success, but setting goals can be a difficult task. An article from Otylia Benson called “The Theory and Power Behind Goal Setting” uses a study from researchers Latham and Locke to prove the correct way to set goals is to, “shoot for the stars when you are setting goals, but not just for any star—that one specific star over there!”(8). Latham and Locke’s study showed that goals should be specific and measurable, which is also proven in this article as Benson states, “Ultimately, Goal Setting Theory says that the best way to stay motivated and be successful is to set goals, but the TYPE of goals you set—and the way you set them—matters to whether you will achieve them”(10).
