In life, goals are made every day. Whether it be to finish homework, do some exercise, or to start a master’s program, all goals, both large and small are important. When Lucas Scott said, “Who knows where life will take you, the road is long and in the end the journey is the destination,” he is referring to how life is unpredictable and that occasionally what people are ultimately seeking is not the destination, but the journey. In many instances what was once set out to be achieved changes or is no longer desired. A fork in the road is reached, a mountain that is insurmountable, or a river that cannot be crossed, but the journey remains. Throughout the span of a life time many goals are set, equally as many will be reached as those that …show more content…
Striving for independence means that they have to take responsibility for their own actions. Most high schools incorporate several key words into their school motto, these usually include, respect, responsibly, and accountability. Up until a certain age almost every decision a teenager has made has been under the guidance of their parents or guardians, now however they need to step up to the plate and try to hit a homerun. It takes a tremendous amount of skill, preparation, luck, and pressure to complete a higher task perfectly the first time around on your own. Passing a driving test, staying focused through all four years of high school, and interviewing for the first job are some of the earliest feats a teenager will face. Some will sail through, many will bump along, others will be defeated first time around, and that is why people start on similar paths with similar goals but go in different directions at various speeds. Goals are designed to challenge the person, to help them improve, to give them something to work towards, but the aim does not always meet its mark. No one will ever succeed in every task they face in life but, coming short of completion does not always mean failure. When journeying towards a goal a person will learn about their own strengths and weakness, their own passions and desires. These self-discoveries in turn will alter the decisions they make and ultimately the goal
Getting somewhere is not just the destination, but even more so the journey. The goals are our destination and obstacle and temptations litter the voyage. Like Odysseus, achieving these goals is not a cinch. Obstacles must be faced or avoided, and temptations should be resisted.
In the novel, The Awakening, Edna Pontellier, the main character, is married to a Creole named Leonce with whom she lives in New Orleans. As the novel opens, they are vacationing in Grand Isle with many other rich couples. Edna is not originally from the Creole lifestyle, so she is not immediately comfortable with being open. However, she starts talking to Adele, another Creole wife, who starts to show her how to open up. As they talk more, Robert, a very young, good-looking attendant, shows up and begins to take a fancy to Edna. While they are at Grand Isle, Edna seems to find herself. Once they leave, Edna starts to become more independent. We begin to see these types of independent women at the turn of the twentieth century. Throughout the novel, we see Edna turn from a dependent woman and housewife, such as Adele, to the powerful and independent woman of the twentieth century.
For one goal in life there is a multitude of setbacks that come with it, and there is no other way around it. The ones who complete their goals never said this too hard or it’s not worth all of this work. They went head on and faced the walls in their way.Two great examples of people who finished great goals and surpassed the many demanding trails are Kira Salak and Odysseus.
People need to think intelligently and set goals that are specific to their needs, making it possible to achieve their goals by making sure they are measurable and realistic and making it possible to build a support system around them; furthermore, they also need to set a deadline with time frames that can be met. Chanika Charles stated that “young people are at risk of being gobbled up by despair, overcome by conditions beyond their control” (A17). To avoid this, people need to start motivating themselves and getting excited about what they want to achieve, making sure their goals are relevant to their needs and being more perseverance when situations become difficult. When setting up their goals, they must ask that magic question: is this relevant to my lifestyle, furthermore, what will I do to achieve it?
"Achievement was all very well, but it was the process, not the goal, that was most important" (Sotomayor 92) – I live among these lines. You learn more over the process of your goal than the goal itself.
America is the land of the free. From the moment of its birth to now, Americans have boasted in their country for this reason. However, at some points in history this boast can be contradictory. When national identities began to form in society, they were formed from the ideas of freedom and individuality. Some people formed an identity that supported mainly individualism and freedom, but it did not consider slavery too much to begin with. This identity is the national identity of a free man’s country. The other identity held the same values except it excluded everyone but white males. This is a national identity of a white man’s country. As time grew on, these identities grew stronger. When they finally clashed they brought along
Setting goals is like looking at a map for it shows you where you want to go. If a person
I set goals for myself all the time in many different aspects of my life. This experience was different because I don’t always take the time to write out goals. Taking this extra step allows you to plan for success despite barriers that may arise due to your environment or social systems. As a social worker I will be better equipped to empower others in goal setting and planning after going through the planning myself. Being aware of how social systems and the environment affect goal setting will allow me the ability to view client’s situations through an ecological lens, while empowering them in the goal setting and planning
...n you desire, taking an encompassing goal and breaking it down to smaller specific goals allows you to create a defined map that will promote your progress, one small step at a time, until your dreams have been achieved.
Setting goals is the most important thing you can do in your life. Without goal's you are going to have no direction, no ambition to be successful, no drive to stay in school, and trouble finding a career that will provide for you. Without these three things, achieving your goals is going to be one of the toughest tasks in the years to come.
Goals can help students even after school, “A student’s ability to set and achieve realistic goals is linked to higher grades, lower college-dropout rates, and greater well-being in adulthood” (Shellenbarger). It is directly stated that having goals is constructive and valuable to have as students. The key to success isn’t just setting goals; it’s having the motivation to achieve them.
From a very young age, my mother taught me to do things for myself. As I got older and asked her why she encouraged that idea in me, she told me it was because she wanted to be able to know I could take care of myself when she is not here anymore. That is when I understood her reason in why she enforced my independence, instead of depending on her so much. Of course, everyone at one point in their lives was dependent when we were kids, but eventually we all become independent when we reach adulthood. However, I strongly believe in being an independent individual is important, instead of being dependent because before we start to settle down in life, we are by ourselves in search of who we want to be in life.

In 1963, Martin Luther King Jr. closed his famous “I Have a Dream” speech with the lines, “Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!” Each year thousands of American high school seniors express the same sentiment as they graduate. However, many high school graduates have a choice to make shortly after graduation; attend college or join the workforce. These two paths offer their own advantages and disadvantages, but they both share a common trait; independence. This crossroad can place many graduates in an option-weighing quandary, because the lure of quick and sometimes easy money can persuade many to enter the workforce immediately. Whether graduates are right or wrong in their judgments, they all maintain their own sovereignty. The newfound freedom that many graduates inherit brings forth new responsibilities and unforeseen consequences that help shape the outcome of their lives.
There can be no success without goals or targets. This is because success is relative to a set target and whether we have achieved it, or at least making steady progress towards attaining it. For you to succeed, set a goal, a measurable target that represents what you envision: that is what you want or where you see yourself in future. A goal should be measurable so as to enable you to monitor your progress and help you know whether you are on track or you have gone off.
