In teaching and in life, people sometimes face difficult situations about whether to intervene in a conflict between people, such as students or other teachers. Concerns about how one will be perceived, fear of personal danger, or sometimes even ambiguity about whether it is better to let the parties resolve the conflict themselves all can make the decision about whether to intervene a challenging one. In an essay to be read by an audience of educated adults, describe a situation in which you faced such a decision about whether to intervene, and explain how you handled the situation.
It was the time of ninety's when I was in my middle school in India.We were three best friends who cahoot, study, and, enjoy most of the time together.One day we were returning to home after school. Meanwhile, we saw some boys were tailgating a girl and she was looking very nervous and scared in the isolated street.After a moment she ran away and boys did the same.I was wondering about the safety of that girl and asked my friends to follow that girl but they denied and we returned home.I was not able to sleep that night and keep thinking about the girl.

I remember it was Freshman year [in high school] and all the upper class lacrosse girls told us to meet at one of the girl’s houses because we were going to go to a party. We met up there, and got into three different cars and started driving. The van I was in had 6 other girls in it and I was pretty good friends with the senior driving it so it didn’t take long for the senior to tell us that we weren’t really going to a party – and that we were going to go visit an abandoned insane asylum. I had never heard of Glenn Dale Hospital and the entire trip, we were told of how many unexplainable deaths used to occur at the hospital and how if you go there today, you can still hear the screams of the patients throughout the halls. I don’t remember what road we ended up on, but next thing I knew – it was all of us freshman walking through a long field seeing a large building in front of us. The closer we got… the slower we walked. We started talking about everything we had heard in the trip up. One girl mentioned that there are still bodies and papers left in the hospital and that the place was abandoned after the workers refused to keep working there after so many inexplicable deaths. Another mentioned that there are always cops patrolling the place and you can get arrested for trespassing. Ironically, as soon as the girl finished talking about the cop, we heard a loud voice from the other side of the building.
The time I was lost at Walmart, I was six years old I was mad about something and that’s when I started wandering off somewhere until finally I turned around my mom was gone I looked all around couldn’t find her anywhere the feeling of me being by myself without know one being here with me to protect me or be here with me, I felt like I lost her forever and that I can’t find her anywhere because Walmart was like a huge store so it was gonna be tough to find her, after a while I started crying and calling her name “mom!”, at that moment one of the employees at the store helped me find my mom by operating on this entercom and called her name luckily I knew her name because if I didn’t how else will I suppose to find her, next they called her
Looking back through my middle school and high school years, I see that I have matured a great amount. I see my current self as someone that treats others with respect, and who does not blurt out anything that comes to mind. I sadly cannot say that was always the case. Throughout high school, everyone changes at least a minimal amount, and sometimes you don’t even notice the changes. Maturity is something that happens naturally for most, and can happen in the matter of a summer break.
I was age 30 and in the United States Navy and had been in the U. S. Navy for 11 years. I was attached to the USS Abraham Lincoln and we were currently in Honk Kong for a port visit. When I was seventeen years old and going into my senior year of high school I was given the opportunity to go on a trip to Spain with my school. It was a two week trip during the summer, visiting different cities and historical sites throughout the country. When you are a middle or high school public school teacher, events happen instantaneously, and you have to be equal to the task of confronting the challenge of an unexpected situation face to face. You never know when or where school violence will erupt; a teacher only knows that it inevitably will.
According to Hendrick and Weissman (2010) there are 5 steps to conflict resolution. The first step is establishing a sense of calm. The educator achieves this by crouching down so that she is at the same level as the children and speaking in a calm manner. She does not single out children or make accusations, even when she is told that one child pushed another child out of the way. The next step is determining what the conflict is about and conveying that each child will be able to help find the solution. The educator facilitates this by asking the children for details about the conflict. She asks “What happened? And then what happened? Which side were you holding?” The educator allows each child to tell their version of what happened, and clarifies the details as they go. She asks “Max did you see what happened?” She also asks the children how they think Jacob felt when his hands were pushed off the basket. Once the problem has been identified, the next step is to ask for solutions. The educator asks “How can we get this basket back to the kitchen where it needs to go?” The children then offer solutions to the problem. When solutions are offered, the educator asks if the other children agree and continues until all of them are happy with the solution. The educator does not give the answer to children, but keeps asking questions until children can find a solution for themselves. This ensures the children have autonomy in their decisions (Porter, 2008b). They decide on the solutions because they feel it is fair, not because the educator tells them it is fair. This will enable children to internalise their locus of causality, ensuring that in the future, they will make the decision to behave ethically because they believe it is the right thing to do, not for fear of punishment or in order to earn favour or rewards from adults (Woolfolk &
Young adolescents can be described as ages 10-15 years old, but it is also considered that adolescence continues until the age of 25. During this time in an adolescent’s life there are many internal and external factors that affect the development of each individual. The influence that an adolescent’s peers, parents, and community have on them can be conflicting and therefore cause stress. Trying to meet the expectations of others during a time where one is going through so many forms of physical, psychological, and cognitive development can be trying for a middle school aged student. They are expected to focus on their education and the expectation of other outside influences while their bodies are growing and developing into an adult body. When development happens differently for these kids it can affect their psychological development if they focus too much on how fast, or slow they are developing in comparison to their peers. Some adolescents may let their peers influence their behaviors creating a problem with how they interact with others, or how they view themselves as a person. The middle school is a place where students are guided through these developmental experiences with the help of their peers, teachers, administrators, parents and community.
People face conflicts every day of their lives. We all come across at least one incident in our lives that is challenging and we are baffled on what decision is to be made. Such conflicts may be an inner-conflict, a conflict between oneself and nature, a conflict between oneself and another person, oneself and God, or one and society. This paper will describe an incident in my life involving a conflict.
