As I mentioned in our earlier conversation, the Decatur Civic Center offered Mr. Phillip Wright an opportunity to retain his part-time position at the Decatur Public Library facility as a Decatur Civic Center employee. In fact, on approximately the second week of April 2016, I personally met with Mr. Phillip Wright to offer him this opportunity. Mr. Robert Edwards, Assistant Librarian, was also in attendance at the meeting. At the meeting I informed Mr. Wright that we would be able to employ him between 25 – 30 hrs per week (as allowed by law for a part-time position without health insurance). Mr. Wright was actually making substantially higher hourly wage that we had budgeted for the position. However, I offered to match the hourly wage that he was currently receiving from the Decatur Public Library. Mr. Wright did voice a concern about the shift he would be working. Apparently, Mr. Wright …show more content…
Mike Lipka, Decatur Civic Center Contract Service Manager; Mr. Tim Douglass, Decatur Civic Center Housekeeping Foreman, and I went to the Decatur Public Library to meet with Mr. Wright to discuss his decision about the position. In the meeting we discussed the work schedule, hourly pay scale, and job duties. I informed Mr. Wright that we had revised the work schedule and that we agreed to accommodate his need to work second shift. I then went over the job duties, which basically matched what he had previously been performing for the Decatur Public Library. I also reminded Mr. Wright that I had agreed to retain his same hourly wage. I then asked Mr. Wright if he would agree to take the position. Mr. Wright stated that he had not made his decision. However, he agreed to give us the answer by Friday, April 29, 2016 (which was his last scheduled date of employment with the Decatur Public Library). On Friday, April 29, 2016, Mr. Wright informed Mr. Lipka that he declined our offer of the part-time

The movie “Philadelphia” shows our society in the workforce and the discrimination that can take place because of an illness or sexual orientation. In this movie Andy Beckett, a fully competent Philadelphia lawyer, is fired from the firm wheeler & Co. because he has AIDS and because he is homosexual. According to the statutes, the American with Disabilities Act, it is unlawful for an employer to fire an individual because of a terminal illness such as cancer or in this case AIDS. Moreover in the movie Andy was diagnosed with HIV, and he does not tell his supervisors in the firm for his sickness and that he is homosexual. However this does not impede the man’s performance, and if the illness does not impede in the performance in the job, the employer has not reason to fire you. Which in this case is not true because more often the law and morality are not one and the same. For example in the movie Charles Wheeler, the senior partner who assigned Andy a very important case in which a very important letter of that case was misplaced, so they accused Andy for that incident and they also ...

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 attempted to combat the controversy of equality by forbidding segregation in public places, as well as prohibiting discrimination based off sex, color, race, origin and religion. This, however, was only the inauguration of a collection of moments aimed at shaping the future. In November of 1964, Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and his administrative group, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, also known as SCLC, developed a campaign aimed towards allowing African Americans the right to partake in voting.
