Reporting party (RP) stated that her son has been at this daycare for 6 weeks and on 10/10/16, her 2 year old son Connell McFadden-Yagazie (DOB: 4/28/14) disclosed that teacher Denise (2 year old classroom) hit him across the face and that it hurt him really bad. RP stated that she did notice some swelling but attributed the swelling to teething. RP stated that the child is, "Super super smart and super verbal" and does not believe he would make this up. On 10/11/16, RP did not send the child to the daycare and went to the school to speak with the teacher about the incident. After meeting with staff regarding the incident, Denise denied the allegations and was very upset. It was reported that the child did fall on top of a toy and hit his face. …show more content…
Denise applied ice to the child's face. RP stated that the child does injure himself and is very active.
RP figured that maybe the child was confused about what happened but the child stated, "No, she hit me on purpose and it hurt." The child stated that the incident took place after lunch. The child stated that he was picking on a bite on his chest and Denise told him to stop. When the child continued to scratch the bite, the child alleged that this is when Denise hit him. RP stated that the child is still toilet training. On 10/18/16 during the child's bathroom routine, the child started crying and disclosed, "Denise hurt my penis. She grabbed it and it hurts." The child disclosed that he was touching himself and was told by Denise to stop. When the child did not follow the directive, Denise pulled his penis. The child also expressed that he no longer wanted to go to the daycare. RP stated that it appeared that the child had some discomfort urinating and thought that maybe the child has a UTI. Today, 10/19/16, RP took the child to get check out by the pediatrician who does not suspect that the child has a bladder infection as the child had no fever and did not see anything out of the ordinary. RP met with the administrator this afternoon to discuss the
incident. Administrator told RP that she knows this allegation to be untrue because she has know Denise for over 20 years. Administrator also stated that the child does well at the school so there must be something going on at home. RP stated that the administrator asked her, "What do you want me to do about it?" RP told Administrator that she would like the incident investigated and not to just assume that she and the child are making false allegations. The child was disenrolled from the daycare and RP was made to remove the child's personal belongings. RP is requesting to speak to the investigating analyst.
At admission, Mollie’s main complaint was right hip pain. She was not oriented to person, place or time, responding with “I don’t know” to questions asked. While the emergency department nurse completed a physical assessment, Molly’s hospital record was retrieved. Molly was discharged from the hospital two weeks ago, having been admitted for dehydration. Her health history was significant for hypertension and diabetes. Her primary care provider and home health care information were included in Mollie’s hospital record, as was her daughter’s contact information. The emergency department performed an x ray to evaluate Mollie’s right hip pain and there was no evidence of a fracture. Per MD order, labs and samples were collected and processed: CBC-diff, CRP, hyperal, blood culture, prealbumin level and urinalysis. Molly was evaluated for sexual assault and the appropriate samples were gathered. The forensic nurse gently scraped material from underneath Mollie’s fingernails. Bruises were measured and age of each bruise was estimated by
We are to base decisions for children based on multiple sources of information in this case you have yourself and many concerned parents coming and telling you about this, it would seem to be probable cause to report the daycare to the proper authorities. After talking to more people about the situation, maybe some co-workers, I would go to the proper authorities and report the day care center. I would also inform the concerned parents about the situation being handled, and I would also give them some tools for if that were to ever happen again, maybe a few
...ays look into anything that may look suspicious to me. It was amazing that Dave went through five years of school while getting beat everyday at home and nobody said anything. I am so glad that Dave was able to overcome all of the factors that put him at risk and I hope that teachers, parents, children, and professionals alike can learn from his story so that no other child has to be put at risk.
For so long Dave’s teachers noticed something was not right with him. He would misbehave, come to school with bruises and lie. The teachers, administration and nurses finally caught on to what was going on at Dave’s house and reported the issue immediately. When Dave and his mother were questioned by administration, his mother would lie about his injuries; Dave would lie as well because he knew if he did not, the beatings would get a lot worse. Therefore, the school did not report anything to authorities. I believe that if a teacher notices a sign of abuse, administration should go above and beyond to figure out what is going on. They should also get the child immediate help. Children are not born to misbehave in such a way as stealing food from other children. There has to be a reason behind their actions and teachers should watch closely. This could change a child’s life forever. This also could give that child a second chance for a better
Note: Bathroom and /or diaper change times vary to meet the child’s needs. This is a general schedule and is dictated mostly by the children’s needs and feelings each day.
A family is referred to me because the parents have been using excessive punishment with their son and daughter. Whenever their children misbehave at school or at home the father beats them with a belt all over their legs and back and the mother does not beat them with a belt or other objects but she will slap them in the face if they are out of line or she will refuse to let them eat for a whole day if they do not do their chores or if they have a temper tantrum. The parents are wanting to change and find better ways to punish their children when they misbehave because they are at risk for losing their children to Child Protective Services if they do not change their forms of punishment. Both the Mother and Father were raised in a household where their parents used excessive punishment and they do not know any other way to punish their children. They also have no knowledge of the fact that they can change the behaviors of their children in a positive way by using the appropriate forms of extinction, punishments and reinforcements. I would then define, explain and give examples of extinction, punishment and negative reinforcement to the parents to make sure that this excessive punishments does not happen again. I would ask the parents what some of the triggers are and discipline problems that they are experiencing from their children to cause them to resort to using excessive punishments. I would then use those behavior problems such as temper tantrums and the children not doing their daily chores without being told to do so to be able to come up with an action plan to try and help the parents change those negative behaviors in their children in a positive way.

A normal day for a daycare facility is to have many classrooms full of students like a typical public school; however, they are younger children and are being supervised by an adult. That adult is responsible for, on average, four to ten students at any given time, ages ranging from zero to six. During that time, a lot can happen. These busy workers have many responsibilities throughout the day. The most important one is safety. Because these children are so young, they are also adventurous therefore need a lot of attention. Daycare workers have to spend much time supervising these children while performing other tasks throughout the day. Not only do children need to be supervised to be safe, but they also need to have a safe, clean and presentable environment that the daycare workers of the facility are to maintain. One way to keep things clean is to sanitize, in which is a big task of these workers. Children are always putting things in their mouth and then passing it off to other kids; therefore, sanitation is a big deal in these types of facilities. Another responsibility that daycare providers have are to enforce rules. When rules are broken, these providers are to then enforce discipline policies. These can sometimes become an issue seeing that these providers are not the parents of the children thus they have to consult with the parents on certain discipline techniques to use on specific children. On the other hand, these providers are similar to parents in the sense that they wash children's clothing and clean up after every child. In addition to all the other responsibilities, daycare providers also have to maintain current, accurate and confidential client files per child. These files are to consist of observations and r...
Each and every daycare has their own menu for the children’s breakfast and lunch. Through my observations, I have noticed that the “Don’t Worry Childcare” has a variety of food selections throughout the month. For example, the children could either choose from fruit loops cereal, or frosted flakes for breakfast. The children’s snacks eaten varies every day as well. For instance, the children ate milk and cookies one day, and cheese crackers another day. An example of lunch would be, milk, chicken fingers, French fries, green beans, and mixed fruit one day, and spaghetti, corn, peaches, and bread another day. I observed the children eat ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, and peaches one day for lunch. All those food options seemed very delicious.
My hypothesis was to determine the effects of maternal presence versus absence on sibling behavior.
I was excited to participate in this interview based on the fact, I have only worked at one daycare center, which they do not prepare food for the students. At the dance where I gathered my information, I learned that because the was opened for county workers and young mothers and placed at the local Technology High School and Collage the students in the Culinary Arts program are in charged of meal planning, prep and cooking then brought over where the teachers serve the food. The students are in charge preparing breakfast and lunch and the daycare provides two snacks, of either goldfish, pretzels, and what seemed to me mostly carbohydrate snacks. The snacks are mostly from donations by the parents of the children at the daycare. In the future,
Abuse and neglect at a young age affects how Yunior interacts with women. For example, In the early years of Yunior 's life his mother sends him and his brother rafa away to his uncle’s ranch. This absence of his mother for a month caused Yunior to experience a man inappropriately touching him on a bus heading towards his uncle’s ranch. According to the case study Identifying Emotional and Psychological Abuse : A Guide for Childcare Professionals by Kieren O’ Hagan, Children who experience some type of abuse between the age of 5 - 12 go through emotions that shape how they perceive their parent and how they receive love or lack of. So if Yunior’s mother was absent during the time on the bus, that will shape how Yunior carries himself by having
Observation is important as the practitioner can find out what the child is interested in and what motivates them to learn alongside their progress and how they behave in certain situations, additionally at the same time it identifies if children need assistance within certain areas of learning or socially (DCSF, 2008). Furthermore the observations check that the child is safe, contented, healthy and developing normally within the classroom or early years setting, over time the observations can be given to parents as they show a record of progress which helps to settle the parent and feel more comfortable about their child’s education. Observations are not only constructive within learning about an individual child, they can be used to see how different groups of children behave in the same situation and how adults communicate and deal with children’s behaviour (Meggitt and Walker, 2004). Overall observations should always look at the positives of what children can complete within education and not look at the negatives and all observations should become a fundamental part of all practitioners work alongside reflection (Smidt, 2009).
Each year data is collected by many government agencies, both national and local, in an attempt to better understand and ultimately prevent cases of child abuse. A report published by the Children’s Bureau titled Child Maltreatment, in 2014 reflected that, children that had yet to experience their first birthday had the highest rate of victimization at 24.4 per 1,000 children of the same age in the national population (p 12). Abuse is never acceptable, but it is extremely alarming that an age group that relies so heavily on an adult for basic needs would be so greatly represented. Perhaps though the information becomes slight more understandable when we see that the Children’s Bureau also reported that 75% of victims were subjected to neglect
