On the 14th of September, I attended both a Dance Technique class and a Rehearsal session. Prior to attending the two classes, I had a general idea of what I was going to expect. My expectations were low for the technique class since it was a hip hop class for beginners; consequently, I knew it wouldn’t be too rigorous. However, I had higher expectations for the rehearsal class, knowing the room would be filled with serious dancers that are apart of a company, taking dance more seriously.
I first attended the beginner’s hip hop technique class. This class was packed with around thirty or more dancers which was remarkably overwhelming since it was so congested in the dance room. As I scanned the room, I noticed that the dancers were stretching as the instructor was preparing for the class. The class began with warm ups such as isolations and stretches. It was enjoyable to watch since a large number of students had high energies, willingly following the instructions from their teacher. However, I noticed that the committed students were in the front, while those that didn’t demonstrate much effort danced in the back with less strength and motivation.

The instructor announced that this was the class’s first day learning choreography, so everyone was ecstatic to finally learn a routine. Prior to teaching the choreography, the instructor gave background information about the song and its meaning. Beginning the choreography, he started off with counts. He used slow counts, then progressed by speeding up to tempo. One significant thing I noticed was that he broke up his teaching into sections which was helpful to those that had difficulty with retention. By breaking the dance into sections, there was an abundance of repetition, consequently making it easier for them to

This paper will prove that dancing is and can be accounted as a competitive sport. Various opinions have been made due to the weather people think dancing can or cannot be accounted as a sport. Many Ballroom dancers compete, as well as dance teams in High School and Colleges across the nation. Is it an art form? Absolutely, some people paint on canvas and it last many years, and some people use space as their canvas, and their bodies are the paintbrush making their art more fragile and more fleeting than a painting could ever be. I have always been fascinated by the many arts. Around September of last year, I discovered a show that had to do with dancing and singing, which caused me to have a slight interest in the former. In November, my best friend showed me a band that is talented in dancing, and this group has fueled my curiosity. Furthermore, I have already taken a few steps towards learning their dances. I aspire to accomplish the ability to dance because of this group, I am trying to learn the choreography to their songs, and I want to perform in front of people who enjoy watching others dance.
Movies with dancing have always been a big success, simply because they cause people to want to move and be free like the actors on the set. Dirty Dancing, directed by Emile Ardolino, is a movie that makes people want to jump into the screen and be a part of the show. It is a favorite among teenage girls simply because of the kind of dancing that is performed. Another movie, Save the Last Dance, directed by Thomas Carter, is also well liked by teenage girls because of the dance moves. These two movies portray similar stories of girls finding happiness through expression of different kinds of dancing.
I have been a dancer since the age of 3. My earliest memory of dance was when I was too terrified to go on stage during a recital and I refused to go on no matter how much they tried to push me. Up until the age of about 12, dance had been just a hobby or an extracurricular activity. In fact, I didn’t even enjoy going to dance. I didn’t have friends there and I wasn’t that good of a dancer. It wasn’t until I participated in Dance Bermuda’s summer dance intensive in collaboration with the American Ballet Theatre in 2012, that I realized that I had a passion for dance. At the program, I was exposed to other dancers that were my age and older and most of them were much more advanced than I. So to avoid being the worst dancer in the program, I took to YouTube and watched hours and hours of dance videos. I researched all the ways to improve my ballet technique. I can remember trying to practice my pirouettes in the kitchen and falling onto the table and knocking a whole bunch of things over. I was determined to be as good as the other girls in the program. By the end of the two weeks I was fired up, motivated, and ready to get back to class after the summer.
The similarities that I observed is that modern dance pioneers placed emphasis on body movements. Martha Graham stated that modern dance is easy, glamorous and delightful. To me is a dance that is difficult to perform even when some of the body movements appeared easy for people do such as arm movement, falling and getting up. Moreover, the differences that I observed were the techniques of movements that each choreographer/pioneer used. For instance Martha Graham technique includes the used coordination, "contraction and release". Duncan for her part used simple gestures. Furthermore, Humphrey created dance entirely without musical accompaniment, she also used imbalance as the base for her movement such as fall and recovery. The modern dance
Miami Dade College’s very own dance majors, who were challenged by the artistry of guest choreographers as well as themselves, performed The Art of Dance. Watching this performance truthfully made me question if the dancers in this program were being trained properly to be professional dancers
In the 1950’s, the American citizens were afraid of a plethora of things as illustrated in the film. First and foremost, they were totally terrified of an atomic bomb and its effects. They were afraid that the Communists were going to bomb the US because of their own knowledge and possession of an atomic bomb. The blast, heat & radiation along with the biomedical affects following were the scariest ideas to the people. You can’t see the radiation and gamma radiation kills fast, which made it really hard to stay clear of. They were curious to how far to do you have to be from it to survive and what type of deformities is a result of it. Many were blinded from the fear of it.
31 Oct. 2014. This journal article discusses the idea that some dancers tended to have emotional problems that were related to their dance training. Quested and Duda were concerned about dancers being more at risk for low self-esteem and eating disorders. These researchers were also curious to find out if some dance students felt like dance teachers were too controlling and if teacher control might have a negative effect on the dancers.
Upon entering the small performing arts theater at Chandler Gilbert Community College, the eye was drawn immediately to three of the performers, who were working out some confusion for everyone to hear at the piano centered on the stage. The seating area resembled that of a movie theater. It's cold cement floors, worn green carpet and gray fold up seats, a dramatic contrast to the warm wood tones of the walls and the soft lighting above. The lineup for the Instrumental Majors Recital contained only solos and duets from students, all very well dressed in their formal concert attire, representing a total of four unique instruments, (piano, saxophone, guitar, and clarinet). Each student presenting their craft with a piece of music that should
I can say that I’m quite open-minded person and I’m not afraid to try new things, but going to a dancing class that only girls do was something that I never thought that I’d do. I don’t consider myself a good dancer but neither a bad one. As a matter of fact, I really like dancing, especially when I’ve had a few drinks. During the time when I was on the 6th and 7th grade I joined a hip-hop dancing class.

Genesis is a talented student and has a very nice singing voice. However, I’m little confused with Genesis. She chooses to be in the musical and choir class, but she rarely participates and was not prepared for the musical. My hope is that she begins to invest herself in the rehearsal process so she can realize her fullest potential as a performer.
Head up, shoulders back, strong arms, stomach in, straight back, turn out, pointed toes, breathe: this was my mantra for one and a half hours a day, three days a week, for nine years. Ballet has been one of the most important teachers in my life in multiple aspects, and self discipline, both body and mind, was a major one. I realized important connections between self discipline, habits, and personal growth. I found myself applying the life skills I learned at the dance studio to life beyond. This was influential in creating the type of dancer, student, and individual I am today.
