An online game takes a man’s life after more than a day’s worth of game play fatigue stops his heart, a result of his addiction to online games. Today there are many people who are highly addicted to online games and the consequence of it can be serious. I believe that Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs) cause more harm to players than they do good, and the government should require game companies to add time restriction features to their game to ameliorate the problem of online game addiction.
I used to be addicted to MMORPGs, specifically RuneScape. RuneScape to me was like a drug addiction. Everyday in school towards the end of classes my eyes were always fixed on the clock waiting for the hands to strike 2:40 and the ringing of the bell for my release. As soon as I heard that bell ring, I hopped out of my desk, bolted to my locker, and ran out to my mother’s car to go home. When we arrived home I flew into my room flip open my laptop and began to play RuneScape. I spent so much time playing MMORPGs that my grades in school dropped because I neglected my homework. RuneScape also destroyed my social life; I stopped hanging out with my friends. My cousin Michael was addicted to RuneScape as well and his consequence was far worse than mine; he dropped out of college due to failing grades all because of a game.
According to Richard Bartle, the ancestor of all MMORPGs started as Multi-User Dungeons (MUDs) in 1979 (Sanchez, 9). MUDs were mostly fantasy themed such as entering a dungeon to slay a dragon. These role-playing games were all text-based without any graphics. Instead, the players would cruise through text commands such as “walk north” and “open door on left”. Without graphics, the player’s own imagi...

Longitudinal research has been conducted comparing the rate of violence in male and female prisons. It is important to do research on this topic because it does not only lead to the conclusion of where is violence prevalent, but focuses on other aspects as well. It focuses on the psychological, social, and sexual side of the inmate. This topic does not only focus on who has the highest rates of violence, but why does that sex have a higher rate. This topic looks deeper at the differences between male and female inmates and what causes them to have high rates of violence. Most people would say that male prisons have a higher rate of violence due to biological reasons. People tend to think that males are more aggressive therefore violence is prevalent in male prisons, yet there is a lot more to this idea.

The old MMOGS used to be a variation of two dimensional and early three dimensional elements. The oldest of these was HABITAT; “The first garphical online virtual world that held lots of players -over 16- was HABITAT, and that was in the mid eighties” (Game Spy Staff). After the creation of HABITAT, other online services came to life. These services were known as the Imagination Network [formerly known as Sierra Network], and Genie. These two companies produced games such as Yserbius and Air Warrior, though neither of these games were true online games. Honestly the first true MMOG was known as Meridian 59. Meridian 59 was produced by an external company and was released in 1996. M59 incorporated a great amount of gamers into one constant virtual world. Following Meridian 59 came Ultima Online. UO was a top down 2.5 dimensional graphical Massively Multiplayer Online Role Play Game or MMORPG. Though UO was released just one year after Meridian 59, it still showed how much MMOGs have greatly improved, yet compared to the modern MMOGs they were nothing. The games from the year 2003 are good examples. The game known as Endless Ages has pretty good graphics compared to the 2007 games, and is still quite entertaining. According to players though, quite a few of the monsters that one would battle, “Look like they crwaled out of the pages of a Dr. Seuss book!” (Gamespy). The MMOG known as Planet Side, is a truly interactive online game that was produced by Sony Online Entertainment or SOE. It has been said that Planet Side was a very beautifuly made game.
As the time passes, technology is expanding and developing many creative ideas. Unlike in the past, nowadays we have computers, TVs, internet, and many inventions that have bad and good effects on us. Children used to interact with society by hanging out and playing sports with each other, but now we can see a big percentage of children who play video games for many hours daily. Addiction controls the lives of people, there is addiction to drugs, cigarettes, alcohol or gambling, and there are some forms of addiction associated with modern life, such as the Internet and video games. Most people think that video games are harmful and a waste of time.
Video games are not considered as a serious addiction amongst teenagers and adults, often being compared to severe cases of addiction, such as drug abuse or alcohol abuse that may result in the appearance of a decrease in the severity of the addiction. However, video game addiction is a serious matter and has unhealthy consequences for an individual 's life and their health; spending too much time playing video games can take a great toll on one 's physical and mental well-being. Continuing unhealthy patterns of video game activity for prolonged periods of time can result in mental health issues, physical health problems, and a decline in a social life.
