As an administrator, my supervisory approach will address cultural diversity, including ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation etc. within the curriculum. More than just a guide for the classroom; curriculum is a written plan of action that assists students and staff in achieving their academic and developmental goals. Successful leaders should have a thorough understanding of all aspects related to curriculum and possess knowledge of best instructional and school practices. According to Bottoms (2001), it is essential that staff work together to “build an organizational structure that will allow teams of teachers to connect what they are teaching and to develop ways to make learning more meaningful to more students.” At Anson High School, we are working to create a culturally responsive school by implementing Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS). Teachers are provided with training and implementation is supported school-wide through the School Improvement Team. PAWS (Positive Attitude, Accept Responsibility, Work Hard, School Pride) is our motto and “Bearcat Bucks” are distributed throughout the school. The Anson high school vision statement creates a new energy and focuses on Academics, Athletics and our presence within the Community (See RTD Document Below).
