I have wanted to go to a Culinary School since I was seven years old. I have a true passion for cooking and baking. I feel like I could make something of myself by embracing my passion. Ma-joring in Business and is a key ingredient in running my own business, which is also a dream of mine. Financial aid, scholarships, the military, or hitting the ground running will get me where I need to go after I graduate. After graduation I will eventually go to the Institute of Culinary Education in New York. I.C.E. offers many programs such as Culinary Arts, Pastry and Baking Arts, and Restau-rant and Culinary Management. Student housing, financial services, and military and veteran benefits are offered. I can apply for Financial Aid with the school and earn my degree that way. I can get my associates degree in Restaurant and Culinary management before my degree in Pas-try and Baking Arts. I am going to apply for scholarships and fill out a FASFA form either way. There are more than enough scholarships around the globe to get me through college. Without scholarships it is going to be hard to pay for, but that is why I am considering joining the Navy after graduation. The Navy is the safest branch of the Military to go into, and the benefits are unbelievable. I could travel around the world if I wanted to, get a full ride through any college of my choice, and get on the job experience while working in the Navy. On the ASVAB test I scored a 69, this qualifies me for roughly 80 percent of jobs the Navy offers including the position of chef. The ASVAB is a timed test that someone can take that tells what strengths and weaknesses that someone has. I spoke to a recruiter and he said this would give me the training I need before I get to
I would like to thank Salish Kootenai College for giving me the wonderful opportunity of applying for STEM academy. If somebody had told me that I would be applying for college classes as a sophomore, I would not have believed them. My parents have always told me that when an opportunity comes, you should take it, and I do not plan on letting this experience go to waste. Education has been a big part of my life, and this academy can only help me move forward. That being said, here are a few reasons why I should be considered a candidate for the STEM academy. Joining the STEM academy will allow me to further my knowledge and help me to get closer to my goals, my academic career would flourish, and I would be closer to my ambition for my future. I am determined to become the best and most educated version of myself that I can possibly be.
My Air Force story begins with me searching for a viable way to pay for college. I was brought up in a home with two hard working parents who were great role models that tried to provide every opportunity for me. However, my family was part of the lower-middle class which meant I needed a way to pay for college. I followed suit with my parent’s stringent work ethic and set a goal to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering and have the Air Force fund it. I felt that the Air Force would be a great match as it would allow me to pursue my aviation dream and also serve as a great way to fund my education due to my financial needs. After a challenging process I received an Air Force ROTC scholarship to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology and pursue a degree in Aerospace Engineering. In return for this scholarship I would have to pay the Air Force back with four years of service.
Spanish cuisine is very popular in many places all over the world. There are so many different Spanish dishes made with ingredients from all over the world like fresh vegetables, fruits, seafood and meats. The traditions shared by generations of families still live on today and are celebrated in many Spanish homes on a daily basis. Food is an important part of every culture and gives other countries and places an opportunity to experience a little part of theirs.
America is a capitalist society. It should come to a surprise when we live like this daily. We work for profit. We’ll buy either for pleasure or to sell later for profit. It should come to no surprise that our food is made the same way because we are what we eat. We are capitalist that eat a capitalist meal. So we must question our politics. Is our government system to blame for accepting and encouraging monopolies?

After interviewing the chef I could say that my interest in Pastry Arts is genuine and I will make whatever sacrifice it takes to graduate and achieve my goals for this dream and challenge that is not too far from becoming my career. This will help me as a young adult to contribute supporting my husband and family in having a better future with a little help in our economic needs. Also, one day I will be able to see my other dream come true which is having my own bakery and help other people using all the skills and tactics I’m learning at YTI. Each and every year millions of people become sick because of food poisoning and other food related illnesses. Many of these illnesses can easily be prevented by properly cooking and handling food in the kitchen. Unfortunately, many people around the world are unaware of the consequences that can occur from contaminated and undercooked food. It is important for every individual who is planning on making a meal in their life (virtually everyone) to understand how to properly prepare their meal.
With education, training and experiences according to the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics chefs must have a “High school diploma or equivalent” (“Chefs and Head Cook”) plus chefs can read into how “Others receive training at a community college, technical school, culinary arts school, or 4-year college.” (“Chefs and Head Cook”) The most common is having “5 years or more” training (“Chefs and Head Cook”), but they can also have “None” experience (“Chefs and Head Cooks”). Also, “A small number learn through apprenticeship programs or in the Armed Forces.’ (“Chefs and Head Cooks”) This gives chefs many options on how to get into the culinary force with any amount of training. But, as it can be seen, the education needed chefs have to take into account is the work environment. According to the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics work environments can be anything from “...restaurants, private households, and other establishments where food is served.They often work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays. The work can be hectic and fast paced.” (“Chefs and Head cooks”) The salary and benefits of being a chef, according to the United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics is as high as “$43,180 per year $20.76 per hour” (“Chefs and Head Cook”)
Can family meals be protective or effective in being able to prevent high risk behaviors amongst adolescents? The idea of family meals being of the past is quite common amongst our society now. Everyone is very independent and the way of life has changed drastically from what it used to be in earlier times. With families changing and careers dominating parent’s time and lives, children are commonly left alone or with a babysitter. Due to the new way of life, meals amongst families has decreased and it is said there is a relation between how much time one spends with their family and their exposure to high risk activities thus leading to high risk behaviors.
My favorite meal is the chicken fettuccini pasta. I chose this dish because I can never stop eating it. The meal is made up of warm tenderized chunks of chicken, delicate smooth creamy white sauce, and many varieties of sliced up vegetables. However, when I was a child vegetables has always been difficult to eat. It prevented me from enjoying my favorite meal because I would always have to take out the mixed vegetables in the meal. As a child I 've tried avoiding vegetables, but was found throughout the school cafeteria 's food, my mother 's cooking, or many fancy restaurants. There was nowhere to run. Over the years, my mother knew I was struggling to eat vegetables. She worked very hard by coming up with her own recipes in order for me to eat healthy. From mixing in the vegetables into the meals I usually eat or to trick me into eating meat but was actually vegetables. Soon later I came to realize how much effort she has put into the meals. All those hour and hard work my mother put it allowed me to enjoy my favorite meal again.
After I finish getting my nursing and business degree’s I would like to go to culinary school like my grandmother, and open my own restaurant, or become a culinary professor, and share my love of cooking with someone who shares the same passion for cooking as I do.
Some people will go their entire lives without ever learning how to prepare food. I have enjoyed cooking from the first time I have ever made a meal and I believe I will enjoy it until the day I die. Learning to cook was not exactly an easy experience, yet it was still extremely rewarding. Cooking is an imperative skill for people to learn and I have spent years teaching myself how to be a better cook, and I intend to spend many more perfecting food.

I want to be able to learn more techniques in and out of the kitchen and restaurant. In any kitchen I cook in I want to absorb as much information and be able to learn how to control a well runned kitchen, develop relationships with chefs, and learn to create the most delicious food. I want to show my passion and hard work when I cook with others. I want to be able to grasp the techniques and create that when I have my own fine dining restaurant in the future. Working in the fine dining industry is an amazing place to cook because every time they display a plate in front of you they show you what creativity and feeling this person has behind this plate. The Culinary Institute of America education will help me get more of an understanding of what I have ahead of me in the future. The food service sector has at least 125,951 companies and approximately 12 million employees with almost 7 million foreigners. This sector includes individually owned restaurants, mid-priced chains, quick service (fast food), hotels, and beverage establishments. Food service plays a major role in institutional establishments like schools, hospitals, prisons and meals on wheels. They cater to the tastes of their particular customers and are often leaders of food innovation. In the food service, we find: bartenders, wait staff, hosts, busboys, chefs, cooks, managers, and dishwashers .The food service workers perform a variety of customer service, food preparation and cleaning tasks, all that which are very important to keep a business running. More concerning , some of the major working conditions that foodservice workers face with daily is no health benefits and significantly low wages. These employees working in the food industry make it possible for millions of people to enjoy food in restaurants but are not being treated or appreciated fairly.
