When I smelled the damp air the dark clouds drifted over me in the sky. As I watched as cheerful kids played on the jungle gym and the swings at recess, I noticed the mulch was darker than usual. As I was waiting by a bench for the whistle to blow, which was the sign for everyone to come in, I heard a scream from a whistle, from the monitor. As I lined up in my class, people passed by me rushing to their line. I watched one by one as people ran inside. The wind bristled my hair as I finally could walk inside. The lunch room was as noisy as a circus. I raced over to our classes bin and grabbed my lunch and then walked to the milk line. As I waited, I heard the lunch lady repeat, "NEXT!" over and over as more people grabbed their milk. …show more content…
As I found my spot to sit down I noticed a boy and girl sitting alone. I decided to sit by them. In seconds we were blabbing about each other as the boy and girl and me became friends. Soon I was gorging food in my mouth from my lunch. Early at recess I was starving and I couldn't wait for lunch. As we were talking, I almost forgot to ask them what their names were. They replied with, Marissa and Sean. The lights went off just when I was going to ask if Marissa and Sean would like to play at recess the next day but I stayed quiet. Turning off the lights was the signal to leave the lunchroom and stay quiet. Finally my class was called and I rushed to my line as I shouted good bye to my new friends. I remembered that Sean was in my class. Our teacher walked us back to our classroom as my other classmates were trying to grab off their gloves and hats. When we arrived at our classroom everyone raced to their cabinets. I watched as my classmates were rushing to take off their snow gear. Surprisingly they were silent as they took off their gear and stuffed it in their backpacks that were in the yellow cabinet. As I waited for my cabinet to clear up, I watched as everyone ran back to their seats. Finally I started grabbing off my gear and saw that Megan was still taking off her snow gear. "I wonder what we're doing for math." I asked my cabinet
The first stop was Monica’s class room. We walked through the never ending hallway, searching for Monica’s classroom like detectives on a mission to find a key to the unknown door. We found the Monica’s classroom and dropped her off. The next stop was mine. I found myself getting more nervous each step, I toke. Suddenly my mom and my dad stopped walking and told me that this was my classroom.
My mother assured me that everything was going to be alright and that I needed to be brave and stay there for a few hours and make new friends. The first few hours were the roughest, 10 4 year olds all sitting in a circle and telling the class what their favorite color and snack was. It was almost my turn and all of the sudden I realized that someone else had the same favorite color as me… I was terrified because it was my first time being away from my mother and I didn’t want to disappoint her and not make friends. I wanted to be brave and tell the class my favorite color but I didn’t want to copy someone else’s. All of the sudden fear began to set in. It was almost my turn and I had to think quickly. By the time it was my turn to speak I yelled “I LOVE THE WHOLE RAINBOW AND ALL OF THE COLORS” every one agreed and then started to say they loved the rainbow as well. As a child this made me very proud and accomplished because I made new friends like mother wanted and it gave me the feeling that I fit
The mother was waiting at the lobby when this worker arrived at 12:28 P.M. When this worker stepped out to greet the mother, Frankie cried out loud. The mother picked him up to console him. Since there was no spoon in the diaper bag, this worker escorted the mother and her son to the lunch room to ask for one. Letting Frankie sit on the sofa, the mother fed him with his baby food. Frankie was surrounded by plastic toy truck and wire wooden bead maze. Sitting on the floor in front of the cube, the mother showed Frankie how to spin the wooden pieces. This worker suggested that the mother should push the toys out of his reach so Frankie could drag forwards. Instead of reaching for his toys, Frankie reached for his mother who picked him up. The mother showed Frankie how to play with
Through the toddler and preschool observations, I was able to note similarities and distinctions each child faced, in their every day activities. For my toddler observation I watched Lydia, a 38 month old girl who was having an ordinary day at the CCCC &LS Toddler center. Weeks later I observed Thomas, a 60 month old boy for my preschool observation. I learned and became aware of each movement and development they were encountering, which prior to me taking this class would have seen insignificant. Watching each child through a one way mirror gave me the ability to observe without interfering. Through both the observations I focused on the cognitive and physical domains. Each child encountered both domains in similar situations but faced them
After all what happened everything came out good. On our way to Arsenal Tech High School, that's where it was going to be. We got there, we sat in our seats. Since my sister last name starts with an A , she had made a speech for that day. After the speech was over, the principal came to make another speech. After that they started getting their diplomas. Names after names came a “woot woot” … shouts after shouts. Everyone was cheering for their love ones that were graduating, everyone was so happy and enjoying that moment. After everything was over we left outside. My mom deeply shouted in spanish “por fin mi niña ya se graudio, si lo eso”. We all looked at her surprised, i looked at her more than everyone else “umm she dont be shouting like that usually she don't shout at all but today was the day” . After everything was over, we had left off to take her pictures. Next to a water fountain we stood there. I was the one next to her, she was in the middle out of my 2 other sisters. “ 1..2..3…CHEESE !! all i saw was a flash going to our face. Wow, it was so bright in the first picture we took i came out with my eyes closed. We left, and my sister decided to go out to eat with the family. We left to go out to
A home visit was conducted at Mr. Hesterberg’s home. The apartment has two bedrooms. The father’s residence is clean and well kept. There are toys for the child. The child's paintings are taped to the wall. There are adequate toys for Kensington. She has her own bedroom at the father’s residence. There is a picture of the mother in the father’s living room.
The child that is being observed is a three year old female, born on October 22, 2014. She has medium length light blonde hair with bangs, fair skin, light crystal blue eyes, and is an average height and build for her age. She is an only child who has lived with both her mother and father in the same house since birth. Her parents are both employed; the father is a part of the Jacksonville State University’s music department, and her mother is the kitchen manager at The Children's Place Daycare in Anniston and is enrolled as a student at Jacksonville State University. The child appears to have a good family schedule with a set bedtime and awakening time with the parents noting no problems sleeping or any unusual sleep patterns. The child had
Early childhood education is an issue that is examined both by media and academic professionals, both of which are represented by Alison Gopnik, a writer and professor (Gopnik, 2013). Gopnik (2011) found that over the years, parents and teachers work to their fullest to instruct children to read at very young ages. It can be Interpreted that reading skills take priority over creative skills, since children are instructed to read even in the womb (Gopnik, 2011). “Thus, the pressure is rising to make kindergartens and nurseries more like schools” (Gopnik, 2011). This pressure has come from the law since 2001, when preschools were pushed to become more academic (Gopnik, 2011). Creativity is a key component of success in later adulthood for problem-solving and cognitive abilities (Plucker, 2010). Creativity used to be the central focus of education studies (Plucker, 2010). At the turn of the century, and more recently, problem solving took first place along with creative thinking (Gruber, 2011). This essay will prove that the current education system tends to eventually pull children away from creativity. It will demonstrate how there is a greater amount of creativity in younger children as opposed to older children. This will be shown through the theories of Howard Gardner and Jean Piaget. In order to prove that education has moved away from a creative focus, this essay will examine the three phases of creativity, multiple intelligences and the U-shaped curve by Gardner, as well as Piaget’s constructivist theory and beliefs on retrogression, which is the idea of growing to show how we eventually pull away from visual art (Nolley, 2010). While this paper focuses on the development of visual arts in reference to the works of Howard Gar...
When I arrived, Mrs. Longtin was standing outside of the class counseling a student that was obviously upset. The rest of the students were supposed to be getting their supplies out to prepare for the lesson. Mrs. Longtin passed out their weekly grade reports and several of the students compared their grades. The students all had encouraging words for each other. The lesson was about dividing 2-digit numbers. Mrs. Longtin put a problem on the board and they reviewed how to solve it together. One student raised his hand and gave a “what-if scenario” on the problem. He was determined to come up with the answer mentally. Mrs. Longtin allowed him to do so and tried to throw out little him, she encouraged him, “You almost have it,” until he came
The purpose of this assignment was to objectively describe an activity and the behaviors of a chosen child during an activity in order to provide the reader with a precise and unbiased visual picture of both. We will attempt to recreate the scene by notifying key things to identify the child’s behaviors and motives.
As I was in the car all I was thinking of if I was going to eat goldfish or fruit roll ups. Since I was in the morning group we only went up to 12:00 then we got to leave. My mom came out the car and stayed with since all students and parents had to wait till the teachers came to pick us up. The lobby always smelled like cinnamon candles. My teacher finally came and we said bye to our parents and gave them kisses. As we were walking down the hallway I paid more attention to the classroom numbers. On that day I figured out that our room number was 10. I thought that since our room number was 10 we were all 10 years old.
We finally arrived at the middle school, greeting Mr. Williams. All of the middle school students who ride the bus have to sit in the gym until the first bell rings. As I got to the gym door, pulling it open, I saw dozens and dozens of kids sitting on the red bleachers. Everyone was laughing, running around, and playing music from their phones. I saw one of my best friends, Yolanda, sitting down on the bleachers with her other friends. The girls she hangs with, I am not actually cool with. Most of them, such as Francesca and Maliah, are over the top drama queens. Not my cup of tea. Anyhow, I sat by Yolanda and waited around 15 minutes until the bell rang. All of the kids rushed out the door into the school building. In the school, there are different halls set up for each grade. Sixth grade has their own, seventh has their own, and eight grade has their own. As Yolanda and I got to our hall, we waited in line to get our breakfast. The lunch ladies set up in each hall with a cart to give out breakfast to each student. After we got our breakfast, we headed to our homerooms. Unfortunately, Yolanda and I have different homerooms. So we say goodbye to each other until our other classes. I enter Mr. Larkins class, my homeroom, and sit in my
In the summer when school was out my older brother, younger sister and I would stay at home. We lived on Sheridan so we would always go sit on the porch and watch the cars go by. One day the house next door to us was bought, my brother and I watched as the new neighbors moved all of their belongings into the house. There was a mom, a dad, a little boy and four girls. Two of the girls looked like my brothers age, one looked my age and the other girl and boy was younger.
I was sitting at my desk inside if my third grade classroom that was full with many students. I sat right next to my friend Eric. The teacher, Mrs. Cooksey had put four desks together so that it could make one big table. I sat with two other girls and Eric. Eric was on my right side and one of the girls who is named Yesenia sat in front of me and Keristy sat in front of Eric. We were all working on multiplication problems on a worksheet that Mrs. Cooksey handed out to us. As we were working Eric asked me a question.
The same day I assisted my boss with the children. I walked in the midst of the students to keep them focused. As I stood still for a few seconds, I felt someone pulling at my high heels. I looked down at my feet, and there was a little girl rolling. While she rolled on the carpet, she held on to my high heels. With a cheap smile upon my face, I looked down at her and I said, “Stop, stop.” She chuckled. I tried to keep a straight face, but I couldn’t let go of my smile; therefore, she kept holding on and playing.
