I was excited! We were on vacation in Isle of Palms, South Carolina, and were ready to do some fishing. We arrived at the marina and were introduced to our captain for the day. I had never gone fishing in the ocean before. My dad, my sister, my two brothers and I were going on the four hour trip. We were all pretty pumped up and ready to hit the water. We finally boarded the small boat and headed out of the marina. I was excited!
We were fishing in the harbor so the waves were calm. We had several poles in the water with a chunk of Blue Crab on the end of each one. Suddenly, we heard the screeching drag of one of the poles, the line was being yanked out and being taken away by some creature in the harbor. I was excited. I grabbed the pole

We noticed that the sky was turning a grayish color but ignored it. Our new location was along reeds and there was a small dock nearby. We were targeting a fish called Red Drum but it was more commonly known as “Redfish”. This type of fish was some that we could actually take home and eat! We were eager to catch some to take them home. Our captain instructed us to cast near the dock and reel back toward the boat. Since my little brother and I had already had some action with a fishing pole earlier, my older brother and my sister got first dibs. They each caught a small redfish. Although the fish weren’t very large, the captain agreed to clean them once the day was …show more content…
However, we kept on fishing. Perhaps, we thought, that the fish would begin to bite better because of the rain. This theory of ours was not the case. We were not getting any more bites and the rain was coming harder. Then, suddenly, a loud crack of thunder echoed through the sky. Lightning followed. We also noticed that several other boats were heading back to the marina at top speed. We got the hint and joined them. The rain only got worse and we were trying to get back as fast as we could. The rain pelted us as we rode back with our heads ducked so that we would not be slapped by the large drops. However, our safety was more important. So we endured the rain that felt more like hail all the way back to the marina.
Fishing the previous day was pretty fun. It was more like a blast. We decided that we wanted to go a second time. This time the forecast looked promising and the day was beautiful. However, this time it was just my two brothers and I. At the hotel, we loaded up our stuff, got in the van, and drove to the marina. At the marina, we met our new captain and said good-bye to the rest of the family. The captain was very kind and helpful. I was sure that today was going to be a good day for fishing. I was excited. I really wanted to hook into a shark. We got into the boat and left the
For me, the joy of fishing is not remembered by the size of the fish or even by the picture we took at the end of the day. I will forever connect the joy of that day to the joy of every other fishing trip. Whether the fishing took place 7 years ago or 7 weeks ago the joy is and will still be the same. That joy is what makes the fishing so
rainstorm, and was positive one was coming. The wind started to howl, so strong that it
It was an exciting day for me and I didn’t even know what was going to happen. My grandpa came to my house and then he told my brother Luke and I that he was going to take us on a fishing trip to Canada with his friend. We were so excited when he told us I told Grandpa, “This will be the best summer vacation ever!” After he told us we went and got gear like fishing poles, rain suites and food. When we got to the house the morning we were leaving, he showed us a picture of the cabin we would be staying in for the week. It took us a while to pack the car we all packed some of the same foods.
It was a bright sunny day and the lake looked like glass, perfect to go water skiing. My dad, brother, and I decided to go get the boat ready for our trip. We had to get the sunscreen, refreshments, and water skis. Once we all got in the boat, we had to untie the ropes that were tied to the boat and the dock and lead the boat out of the dock without it colliding into the dock..
... to the ocean to relax, socialize, and enjoy food and drinks on me. At the end of the night, everyone I had brought together was very thankful that I organized the trip because we had the chance to enjoy everyone’s company given that we do not all get to do that very often.
It was a pretty day and it did not take long to get to the island. Once we arrived, there was a quick lesson by the captain. We snorkeled, had lunch and returned to Atlantis. Everyone was tired from the day and decided to turn in for the night.
As the sun was rising from the horizon it started to warm us up, by the time we got to the oil rigs the sun way a pretty good distance into the sky. The clouds only lettings small slights of the sunshine through. Once we got to the rigs we began fishing for bait, using a steel leader with 10 small hooks and a lead weight at the end. We would be right next to the oil rigs casting the line next to the giant steel pillars that supported the rig. And with one reel in there would be approximately 6 mackerel stuck on the small hooks. I wouldn’t be lying if I told you catching the bait fish was more fun than the actual tuna.
We woke up early the next morning to start heading towards the river. When we got there I was happy to finally be out of the truck. I was ready and prepared to get in the water. Especially because it was so hot!
The number one rule of fishing is always being prepared for anything, and let someone know the fishing destination before leaving the dock. Anything can happen while being on the water, and the water is unforgiving, so make sure all the supplies needed are in the boat before leaving the dock. The second rule is to know the fishing laws and limits. Remember the Wildlife and Fisheries and Coastguard are not very forgiving on mistakes like these. The third rule is to have fun. Remember there is no right or wrong way to fish as long as one is having fun doing
I must say, I had an uneasy feeling when we finally arrived at the end of the pier. From the shore the pier seemed short, but in reality the wooden planks carried us out into the ocean approximately the length of a football field. To make matters worse, when I looked down over the shaky, wooden, guardrail I realized if I fell in, I would be gone forever. Oh well, I was here to fish and that is just what I was going to do. After all, I knew how to fish; I have caught plenty of fish in my
We hastened our walk across the slippery landscape trying to avoid the pouring rain that was soon to come, but didn’t walk fast enough. It started downpouring on us, cold water drenching our tanned skin as we sprinted to the nearest place to take cover. Contending to run, we spotted an Italian restaurant we ate at a couple days back. We ran over to the yellow, stucco building and sat down under the doorway that, for the most part, protected us from the cold drops of water. As we reached the building, thunder rolled from above
Dad and mom had a day off of work and planned this fishing trip for a while. All they did was work and come home to do more work. It was a Sunday, a day we can get out of the house for once out of the week. I was looking forward to catching a big fish and bringing it home. The
The adventure began with a cold winter morning in florid, Uncle Bob and I decided to head out to his secret spot, the dive site was roughly 100ft and a Spanish Galleon laid rest. My dad dropped me off at the boat dock where I met up with Uncle Bob. We did a gear check to make sure we had everything to complete our dive. After the gear check, we headed out, after a couple
The breeze pushed my hair behind my ears. The water rippled as I stared down into the empty ocean, dreaming of a fish. My legs felt like jello and my hands were shaking. I was sweating in my heavy-duty rain gear. I had been standing in the corner holding my fishing pole for what felt like hours.
Thankfully, the waters were much calmer here. As Papa lowered the anchor, I helped Nana get the fishing poles all set up. I watched as they attatched the bait to the ends of each pole. The fishing poles were still too heavy for me, so I had to rest it against the side of the boat as I sat in my small folding chair. Nana caught the first fish.
