The United States is one of the leading suppliers of Foreign Aid in the world, and even though the US gives billions, European countries give aid money to the same countries, this causes many areas of the Middle East, Africa, and Asia to be almost fully dependent on foreign aid. This means that without aid from other countries, they would not be able to support themselves at all. Foreign aid is meant to help countries that are struggling with civil unrest, disease, or natural disasters, it is not meant to help keep the country out of debt, but that is where more and more of the US and The EU’s foreign aid budget is going. The question is, does all this money actually go where it is intended? It should be going towards the government and to help the people, but in many cases, the countries government does not have the resources to properly track the flow of money. The countries in most cases have poor infrastructure and corrupt or oppressive leaders, not always at a national level, but in the towns and cities. So this means there is almost no way to oversee the flow of foreign aid through the country, all we can see is that their situations aren't getting any better and the countries are still impoverished. If this is the case, where are the millions of dollars going? Countries like Afghanistan and Iraq receive the most money from American foreign aid and European aid, yet they are still under oppressive governmental rule and there is still an extreme difference between the rich and poor. Garrett Harding’s theory of “Lifeboat Ethics” exemplifies how not giving aid to others will allow the strongest of society to thrive, while teaching the impoverished to help themselves. He believes that giving aid to poor countries will only make ...

I have heard many great things about studying abroad from family and friends. I hear things, including: studying abroad allows one to experience another culture directly, helps you develop new skills that you cannot learn in a classroom, and also helps one learn about themselves. Listening to the people close to me talk about how amazing their time abroad, was made me realize it is something I desire to do. I know this opportunity will be extremely beneficial to me for numerous reasons: I want to learn more about who I am and my values, I have never been off of the continent before, it is a great thing to put on my résumé and will enhance employment opportunities. I will value studying abroad in Italy because this experience will assist me
Racial Bias In the article, “Can We Change Racial Bias?”, Wendy Hasenkamp Discusses how racially bias plays into peoples thinking without knowing. This is known as implicit bias. The media is one of the sources that portray implicit bias to the viewer. No one wants to be label as a racism, so they may deny and believe they are not.
Going to the Holocaust museum has been the best experiences of my life. All my life traveling to Washington D.C. area; I have never got the chance to check this museum out. The main cause was that it was always crowded. Luckily, I went earlier this time and it wasn’t so bad after all. When I read the syllabus on the first day of class; I was very thrilled that this project was required as an experiential learning because it gave me the motivation to finally go.
‘New museology’ is the concept of modernising museums and making them more interesting and interactive for the visitors. The District Six Museum is a good example of new museology because it is a relatively new museum that was started and run by the community, not the state and it is very different to older museums. It is very appropriate to have a museum like this in South Africa, because what happened in District Six should not be forgotten and museums like this one encourage people to visit them and find out more about what has happened. Part of new museology is to teach people more about what happened in the past by using more interactive displays; the District Six Museum does this by using a range of interesting and interactive displays.
Iceland has the reputation of being a remote country, but it's actually North America's closest European neighbor, located relatively halfway between the U.K. and the U.S. There are many misconceptions about Iceland, and surely the name of the country doesn't help any. Far from freezing or being covered in ice, Iceland has a relatively medium climate, averaging 60 degrees in the summer and 32 in the winter. We were visiting in April, and the temperature during our stay was around 40 degrees, requiring a winter wear, but far from scarf and gloves-weather.
I. This year a study conducted by UC Merced discovered that 97% of study abroad students found employment within 12 months of graduation, when only 49% of college graduates found employment in the same period. (UC Merced, 2016)
There’s also a variety of graphic and artistic materials which adds up to the picture gallery. The building that houses the Anger museum is also interesting since it was made in the baroque era. There are always plenty of exhibitions going on and a guided tour is also available here for visitors. The Kulturhof is also another interesting building which is located on a medieval road. This building complex includes a main house, a huge courtyard inside and several other smaller buildings surrounding it.
Located in the province North Holland in western Netherlands, just 2 meters below sea level, Amsterdam boasts a very enjoyable climate throughout the summer with a cool wind blowing off the North Sea. The average high in the summer is only 71.8 °F with only an average of 2.5 days reaching 86 °F or higher. In the winter, those tourists who enjoy imagining what the North Pole may feel like would enjoy the chilly temperatures. In these winter months, typically October through March, with January being the coldest, the days are damp and cold due to little rainfall.
I should receive a passing grade in this class because I can write now. Not just an exaggeration, but after another semester of English I finally feel confident that can write. Three of the reasons behind my confidence is I learned, I experienced and best of all I repeated. These three values helped prepare me for what is in store in English 1302 and here is why.
