The controversies of video games A lot of people (mainly parents) say that video games have a negative effect on children because they think it causes them to become greatly distracted, violent, socially isolated, addicted, and teaches them the wrong values such as vengeance and aggression. However, what a lot of people don’t know is that playing video games actually impacts your brain in many positive ways. It teaches people abstract, high level thinking skills people will need in the future, and changes the physical structure of the brain the same way as learning to write, read, play an instrument, and navigate using a map. I have noticed that not only myself, but other gamers have also dramatically changed in a positive way. We have all achieved the positive effects I mentioned in the previous paragraph especially concentration and hand eye coordination because since then my brain’s interpretation and reaction have improved. I would answer this question by playing video games throughout the week and then seeing how you do in class during the day. In addition, you should keep track of your grades for your classes to see if they’re getting better or worse, this would determine if the video games are preventing you from paying attention or not, it could be something other than video games. The second question is do video games cause you to become anti-social? I would answer this by saying, this could possibly be true if you play offline instead of online because, I know for a fact that the majority of the gamers out there play online which allows them to interact with other players around the world therefore, they’re not anti-social. What I need to learn more about the issue is the possibility of aggressiveness caused in children when playing violent video games? The best way to find information about this would be to do research by playing the video game yourself. Videogames are amazing they promote creativity, team-work and social interaction. Video games actually work to increase how good your eyesight is. One study done by scientist’s Daphne Bavelier and her team found that playing five to fifteen hours of action games (e.g., Call of Duty) a week increased how good the participants vision was in two ways "The first way is that they 're actually able to resolve small detail in the context of clutter… The other way that they are better is actually being able to resolve different levels of grey”. Sure games have violence in them but honestly what doesn’t, films and TV are chock full of it, heck even Tom and Jerry promote violence and animal abuse plus there is a reason that those big shiny red “18” stickers are put on games so that it is clearly shown that children aren 't supposed to be given access to these specific types of game. There is a common misconception that video games “brainwash” kids and do nothing but damage their intellect. Although that is not the case, video games have been proven to improve one’s everyday motor skills and even improve vision. Some parents may believe that their son/daughter will grow up to be some sort of lonely psychopath due to video games, but that is not the case. The truth of the matter is that video games do little to no damage to kid’s brains. There are many more things that improved rather than decreased. There is even scientific evidence to support of this. With tests showing gamers develop the ability to use the smaller and faster portion of their brain to process situations and make decisions. It was also apparent that, with the right amount of play time, video games can even vastly improve the weakened skills of dyslexics. Several tests went to show that the same basic skills that are hampered in dyslexics, can be easily recovered through sessions of action gaming. With all of this to improve one’s basic and complex abilities, one should see how video games do not "brainwash". Video games are not “brainwashing,” rather they help increase one’s mental capacity by expanding their motor skills and can even improve a dyslexic’s abilities and match their intelligence to their classmates.
The purpose of this paper is to present a literature review on existing articles relating to the possibility of violent video games promoting aggressive behavior. The hypothesis set forth was that people who played non-violent video games displayed more Prosocial behavior versus those who played violent video games displayed more antisocial and aggressive behavior. A search was conducted on regular search engines on the internet, and on EBSCOhost using the title “can violent video games promote aggressive behavior.” The research articles presented are obtained from five case studies each focusing on different measures that were obtained, methods used, the participants involved, the designs of the study, and the results of the studies.

I have been playing video games for as long as I remember. I started by playing the original Super Mario Bros. on the Nintendo Entertainment System with my older brother and sister. I walked into my room and see my PS3 console and instantly I turn it on and play until midnight and still had done no homework. It was like instant attraction, like a magnet. If I could go back in time I would not have played video games. Why you ask? Ever since I was a child I would play video games and I feel this has affected my lifestyle in many ways. In this paper, I would like to explain in four ways how playing video games has affected me physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally.
