There have been so many amazing things that I have experienced in my life already. I look forward to each new experience I may have an opportunity to have. Each day is a victory, a challenge, and a success story. Every day is a gift and you should take full advantage of everyday you are given. Unfortunately, we all miss some of the best moments in life by being so concerned about control life. For some reason my need and desire to control life has always been a part of who I am; It has had positive and negative affects throughout my life.. So many of life’s greatest gifts and memories are not planned they just happened. Like just playing in the backyard with your kids and forgetting about the world around you and just enjoying in the moment. So many of my fondest memories are simple moments in life, no money, no long trips just me and my loved ones spending time together. If I could just let go and just enjoy in the moment more I think it would have a positive affect on my life. As reported by Layard and Nettle (2005), “at least two forces prevent us from attaining happiness through material goods. First, we become habituated to what we get and then crave more, or something else. Secondly, we compare what we have with others.” With out the ability to evaluate ourselves we would never improve that is why ones self-concept is so important. You must continue to check your self-concept against your values and your desired self-concept. This why I feel making this change in my life is so important. I want to be able to relax more and worry less about the future and the small details of life. This will reduce stress, making time with family and friends a time for peace and relaxations. The problem is if you are always... ... middle of paper ... ...ime to reflect on changes I would like to make about myself has made me realize the positive affects that making this change could have on my life. My wife will have the biggest influence on ensuring I continue to develop this skill and make this change in my life. Watching her interact in situations and not allow me to take over the situation all the time. I feel privileged to have had this class and have had the time to reflect on what I can do to improve myself and my life. I would love to slowly make these changes over the next two to three years of my life. I hope to have achieved this transition by the time I complete my bachelor’s degree with Indiana Wesleyan University. This will give me a great sense of accomplishment not only have I completed my degree in business but I have accomplished my personal goals to control life less and enjoy it more.
My house and my things were my new employers for a job I had never applied for”. With too much materialism, your life will be unnecessary complicated and you will not get time to do your favorite things so therefore buying less you will have time to go out and enjoy, instead of being worried about things that needs to be done. I am not saying that you should isolate yourself from materials. Without materials, people will not have jobs for example, in the above quote lawns to mow, roommates.
In the article, "But Will It Make You Happy," Stepahnie Rosenblum shows us how to be happy with less money spent and more purchasing an experience. people spent their money to find happiness, but they do not realize that the experiences had more value of material objects. I agree with the author that experiences give people more satisfaction than spending money on materials as well small things bring more happiness.
I have often wondered what it would be like to experience the freedom of choosing my own class schedule. This has to be infinitely more stimulating and enjoyable. I am also aware that college will be significantly more challenging, but I have always found it easier to study for a class that interests me. I am willing to accept the fact that as long as I am in school, there will be required courses which may not engender excitement or enthusiasm; however, success should not be as difficult to achieve due to the maturity that is developing during this last year of high school. In addition, I have gained an understanding of the benefit of being well rounded. There is value in all classes taken. It helps to know that even my least favorite subject will contribute to the ultimate goal of personal and career development.
Being in this class has benefited me towards my priorities. I was always one to procrastinate and I still am, but now I know how to do it in a smarter, more effective way. During this class, I found out how to plan my priorities. I had to think about my life priorities, semester priorities, and also my week’s priorities. All of these take time and dedication to achieve and procrastinating in the wrong way is not going to help. My life priorities were to graduate early, and receive my degree. The semester priorities were to pass all my classes, and also to take knowledge from the courses. My week’s priorities were a little more realistic, and they were to take time on my activities and to not be stressed about a small situation. These priorities are very important to me because I feel like these will lead me into the right direction for my career. This section of this course has had value toward my college career success. It has helped with life skills that I will be able to take farther in
“Self-concept consists of knowledge, views and evaluation of the self, ranging from miscellaneous facts of personal history to the identity that gives a sense of purpose and coherence to life” (McCrae and Costa, 1996). With self-concept, we learn who we are by observing ourselves and using our cognitive processes to judge and evaluate our behaviour. However, with self-regulation, we are able to use this knowledge and judgment and apply it to future situations and so predicts behaviour and says a lot about our personality. If we are willing to cognitively analyse past situations and apply it effectively to future situations, this means we are changing our behaviour, thus changing our
With living costs as high as they are in this day and age, it is completely unreasonable to expect the average individual to squander already limited resources. Receiving a bachelor’s degree today requires an assortment of classes that often are not directly related to one’s career objectives. For some, they find this to be an enjoyable adventure, broadening their knowledge and learning about new aspects of life, but for others this is just burdensome. However it is looked upon, the college curriculum still requires a diverse selection of courses to develop well rounded, responsible individuals, but in turn creates added pressure upon students.
...ts of self-esteem, self-efficacy, and self-concept. Every individual will depend on attributes from each of these to develop themselves not only from the past but also for their future of who exactly the person wishes to be. Having a love and respect of oneself will help in this journey of self-discovery.
I’m a student at Tompkins Cortland Community College this is my first semester as a college student. I plan to go to college for four years and only be at TC3 for this one semester, then transfer to a four year school. College has grown around the world more than ever and more people are attending college more than ever. I have chosen to go to college because of the rewards after graduation. Yes it is another four years of school but by getting more education and an extended degree gives me more opportunities for better jobs and more money. The career I have chosen to study is business administration. I am hoping that it takes me to a great job managing a company or possibly being an accountant.
I understand my styles and behaviors better now. Too bad I didn’t take this course earlier in life. Understanding myself will help me understand other people better I believe. That will be helpful concidering the profession I intend to have.
The whole reason of self-improvement is to improve upon what you are. Some of things are not working for you, because the necessary behavior is absent.
The need to continually improve ourselves is basic to all human beings. Self-development allows us to reach our true and fullest potential. Through self-development we become better able to understand ourselves, others, the world around us and to make positive changes in that world.
I realised that self-awareness is important in achieving self-improvement. The more an individual understands themselves, the better he or she is at adapting life changes that is according to their needs. The more self-aware we are, it improves the level of confidence we have on oneselves. This can be achieved through greater exposure, thus widens one’s experiences and will be more likely be more accepting of others. Self-awareness will also benefit us to be more accurate in accessing
My life is a mixture of moments, some happy moments and others not so much, but regardless, these moments have made me the person that I am today and I don’t regret anything that had happen. I consider myself a strong, and a very determined person, I have dreams to fill the world and I am willing to do the necessary efforts to attain those dreams. My motivations I inherit from my family, more specifically my father that I love so much; I have always
Material goods don’t make us happy. Acquiring things like houses and cars only have a transient effect on happiness. People’s desires for material possessions crank up at the same, or greater rate, than their salaries. Again, this means that despite considerably more luxurious possessions, people end up no happier. There’s even evidence that materialism make us less happy.
“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.” - Madonna. When you read this quote, you think of one word, “Self-improvement.” Just with this one topic, you may ponder and ask yourself, “Who needs Self-improvement?” ,“ When do we need to start changing and How do we begin?”,” What will we get from it?” , and the most important question of all, “Why do we need self-improvement?” Self improvement comes from experiences. Experiences that were either blessings, mistakes, regrets, and overall a lesson each time. Self-improvement is a wake up call but will we ever take the chance to self-improve or just let it pass it by?
