Dr. Hilson offered some constructive criticism that will help to make my paper better and more efficient to anyone who is looking to read a research paper on “Why children should not be offered financial incentives for doing well in school or on standard tests.”. His criticism showed me all the flaws in my paper and what I can do to change them to make the paper way more effective. I made some changes in the paper by adding a few in text citations, replacing the unnecessary data on my works cited page making it more efficient, and replacing the grammar and run on sentences. In the paper I added a few in text citations to show where I got the information from and who wrote it, so that The reader could look up the article and read more about it.
Also, i replaced the unnecessary data on my works cited page with relevant information that gives better detail on where i got all my information from and who wrote it. In my paper I had plenty of grammar and run on sentences. I did my best to correct all of my grammar errors and my run on sentences. I have had plenty of problems while writing a paper with my grammar and the structure of sentences. With Dr. Hilson reviews it lets me know everything that I need to work on to make me a better writer for my future assignments.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said:“We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.” Mr. Roosevelt was indicating that education is key to ensuring a positive future for our country. Years have passed since his presidency, and many can argue that America’s educational system has improved, but that still remains to be seen. While it is true that education has gotten more focus in recent years, as highlighted by the “No Child Left Behind Act,” it does not mean that the system is fully developed enough to aid all of America’s children. Now, the average American is just that: average. Children generally receive B’s and C’s, average grades, in school if they are lucky enough to be in a good school system. Literacy rates are lower than they seem, and not enough people are properly motivated to do well in school. Forms of entertainment and parental influence, which also play a large role in the development of children into successful, productive adults, are not where they should be with respects to education. Much more needs to be done to improve the educational system of the entire country. Preschool should be made mandatory to help individuals reach their full potential and achieve what only a minority of today’s society is currently capable of.
Students who go to school in urban schools are not given the same opportunities as a child their age in a suburban area school. Students who go to school in urban schools are put at a disadvantage compared to students who go to school in suburban areas. As a pre-service teacher it is my responsibility to work toward fixing this injustice and inform my surrounding community. As we look into this injustice we see how there are many solutions to this problem and that the government and people need to educated about this issue. There are some who are against changing or do not feel it is necessary to fight the educational system even though their children might be impacted. Through my research I found information supporting my viewpoint of helping to improve our educational system in the United States, but I was unable to find research or a scholarly article that agrees with the current educational program.
...whether or not voucher programs are benefiting the nations educational system it is clear that the benefits are not outweighing the risks. There is so much time and energy being spent on legal battles throughout the nation, when the federal Supreme Court has already declared that vouchers are within the rights of the Constitution (Garnet, 2005). It is pointless to waste so much time drawing attention to the legality of the school choice system and vouchers when you could be spending that time improving the implementation of the voucher programs across the nation, which would actually benefit the students (Manuel, 2006). In conclusion, voucher systems cannot be beneficial to students when they are not being effectively implemented and they cannot be effectively implemented when politicians and state leaders would rather argue than work together to improve the system.
Most school vouchers are highly beneficial for low-income students. The government puts a specific amount of funding on a school voucher for parents to cover the full tuition for a public school education. Some families are financially burdened, so they cannot always send their kids to go to the best school. The school vouchers creates the opportunity to change that and improve education for all children. It encourages students to enroll in school, which increases graduation rates and standardized test scores. According to the text, the proponents believe the school voucher programs will be a huge success because it provides students with high-value products and advanced technologies to use in class. However, there are negative aspects associated
In this paper, I will write a brief reflection over my interview with Professor David Christianson. I asked my professor fourteen questions, all question had different meanings and answers. I will start off my paper with some facts and advice which I received from my professor, my personal reflection on the facts, my personal reflection on the overall experience, and lastly, I will end my paper with the conclusion.
In his article “Against School”, John Taylor Gatto writes regarding his opinions that America’s current system of schooling children is bad within itself, and unfixable. In this essay Gatto includes confusing personal antecedents, historical examples that do not correspond with modern day society smoothly, and overall he just does not fully explain his already weak evidence. Due to this, instead of convincing parents to take their children out of school and rethink society, he just leaves the reader confused over what the problems truly are.
Getting into this reading, I realized how much our country lacks in the education system. I knew before reading this that we were ranked fairly low on the education system charts, but I did not realize how far behind mentally and physically so many of our students here are. There are many reasons why this country is better off and also worse off in many areas of education. We, in this country, are very privileged in the things that we have in our lives, and also in our school systems. We take for granted much of what we have just because we are used to having these things in our lives. This is a large reason that our country is so far behind others in the education systems. Our country has amazing new technology that is brought into schools all the time. We do not use these new advancements to our advantage and we are only hurting ourselves and the future generations by not using every possible way to get better in the classrooms and get prepared for the future.
Friedman uses a quote from Robert Samuelson asking “Why have we spent so much money on school reforms in America and have so little to show for it in terms of scalable solutions that produce better student test scores?” and then Samuelson goes on to answering it by saying “The larger cause of failure is almost unmentionable: shrunken student motivation….”
In the two passages that I had read have two different claims on what time high school should start. Each author uses evidence to support their claim. In this essay it will explain if school should start early or later and explain each author’s overall claim on what time high school should start.
Everyday high school student Michael Hickey carried the physical and metaphysical, as most people do. His brain wakes him up like an alarm clock in the morning, and the moment he rises to consciousness, the daily malaise that is life creeps up into him. Michael Hickey carries the physical, his weight, and the metaphysical. Per-usual, he does the same things everyday, carrying the same things everyday; in which, his journey begins.
The expectations and standards for kids in America are too low. The low expectations of students are encouraging them to slack off or not give their education their best efforts. Many states are making tests and curricula easier so it looks like their students are performing really well, when in reality they are just being given easy material (“Bursting bubbles; Education…”). After school activities are another factor in low academic performance. While jobs and sports provide many benefits, school is the number one priority for kids. Not enough emphasis is put on this by teachers and parents (“Shortchanging students: How…”). Parents are contributing to the low expectations by not paying enough attention to how their kids are doing in school, also. Parents should be rewarding children for achievements and punishing them for failures instead of ignoring what is happening in their child’s life. If kids know that they won’t be punished or rewarded then they won’t try their hardest, because they know it doesn’t matter. Students have reported that they think grades aren’t important, they don’t try their hardest, or are afraid of what their friends migh...
Over the past decade or so many cash for grades programs are popping up all over the United States. Despite the title, these programs are not ways for students to pay other people to do their school work for them. Instead the programs are incentive ways to increase A+ work in students by motivating them with the promise of a reward. Cash for grades programs can help students develop proper school etiquette such as: attending all classes, exhibiting good behavior, completing all assignments, and studying for tests and actually doing well on them. Even though the programs seem to produce model A students once they graduate, cash for grades programs can have negative impacts on students during their high school careers and even after graduation.
The feedback that I was provided by Cayla helped me tremendously because previously I lacked confidence in my writing because I had no clue if anyone else shared the same view as I. She expressed that she has similar views and told me to further extend my ideas. Admittedly I was afraid of being judged for having this sort of view but she helped me realize that I am not alone in believing this, and most importantly to not limit my writing based off of my fear of being judged by my peers. If I were to grade this assignment, I would give myself a middle B because I feel that I improved tremendously in terms of concreting my values across to the reader. By writing this paper, I seriously feel like i'm more knowledgeable about some of my values
One of the main reasons to paying students is that it might help the people that are having trouble stay in school. In the article “should you bribe your kids to get good grades”. In paragraph 13 it said that “it could be a way to get them a jump-start to get them to try a little bit harder”. Someday i do not want to come to school but if i knew i was going to get paid for grades i would be up here all day. Some schools or parents don't think kid or students should get paid. They think they should be able to do it without getting paid. But i still believe that whatever u have to do to keep your kids in school is a good idea. Paying student helps them stay in school.
Kids who are being motivated by getting paid or reward is lazy because kids are only doing good to get something. Money should be used to reward your kid for getting good grades because it's their job to go to school and do go for himself not for that reward. Kids should be motivated by seeing that if they but in that good work and getting good grades there is a reward after all but it may not be money or something like that it is graduating either 8th and going into high school or graduating highschool and going to college for a good job that is what kids should be motivated by.This article I read Why parent should never give kids money for good grades at school say It’s not what ultimately motivates me though and I don’t want it to be what motivates my kids. They need to be motivated to learn for the learning itself and striving hard based on desires that are deeper than
