The feedback that I was provided by Cayla helped me tremendously because previously I lacked confidence in my writing because I had no clue if anyone else shared the same view as I. She expressed that she has similar views and told me to further extend my ideas. Admittedly I was afraid of being judged for having this sort of view but she helped me realize that I am not alone in believing this, and most importantly to not limit my writing based off of my fear of being judged by my peers. If I were to grade this assignment, I would give myself a middle B because I feel that I improved tremendously in terms of concreting my values across to the reader. By writing this paper, I seriously feel like i'm more knowledgeable about some of my values
and of my peers.
I read an interesting article by Alicia Shepard called, A's for Everyone! Shepard has written for many exclusive magazines including the New York times and People magazine. Her expertise mainly involves media. She has also received a masters in journalism and a honors in English (Women's Media Center). The essay's main point of interest is talking about of students and parents expecting the highest possible grade for everyone. This is a perfect time to discuss an article like this as us college students move into our first semester of classes.
I have never been the strongest writer. To be honest I was nervous about this course and how much writing was involved in it. With that being said, the research paper I wrote on James Baldwin’s “Sonny’s Blues”, was very challenging me. I am overall satisfied with my essay but feel if I had practiced better time management and spent more time analyzing it, the result would have been a more detailed and better organized essay. I put my essay in the Successful category, although I did meet the course outcomes in my paper, it contains grammatical errors and does not flow as well as an Exemplary paper would.
... you deserve a great grade for your writing. Develop your answers accordingly. Questions? please ask
Nice job on this, Alex. I like the thesis, and it is developed well, but it isn’t that terribly complex. It didn’t flow that well in the beginning, but it got better. Very clear, but style and higher-level thinking will help you get to the A zone. clarity: A-, thesis development: B, evidence: B+, style: B-, convention: B. overall: B
The close reading is from The Odyssey by Homer in book nine lines 1-33. In this paper, one could see Odysseus goes full circle of emotions throughout the lines. Before this book starts Odysseus was lead to the palace of Alcinous, the king of the Phaeacians. Once he was there he plead for help from the Queen to get back to his land. The King thought Odysseus was a god but Odysseus put that to rest by saying he was a mortal. That evening, while the King and Queen were talking to Odysseus, the Queen noticed that he was wearing her daughter’s clothes. This lead to him being questioned by the Queen. At the end of the questioning the Queen was so impressed by him that the King offers Odysseus his daughter’s hand in marriage. The next morning, they
My sixteen week class in English 111. I was really nervous about this class. Because English has never been my strong point. This class has hard, but fun all at the same time. I learn a lot from this class. Meanwhile, the first day of class you handed a paper with a question on it. “The first thing I want to say to you who are students is that you must not think of being here to receive an education; instead, you will do much better to think of being here to claim one.” Even though putting my all in what I have learned, claiming my education with hard work because using the skills of the meal plan, as we write to different audiences and learning to be a Critically thinker as I start becoming a critically-Literate Citizenship.
Over this entire course, we have written around 5 papers. This does not include this paper. Each of these papers were very different from each other. The types of papers varied. There was a new type of paper to write every 2 weeks usually. The papers I wrote were good but had much room for improvement in my opinion. I examined each paper after it was graded
In a society where anyone or anything that does not fall under the “true image of God” is an abomination and is to be exiled or killed, a group of “shape-thinkers” who have already struggled trying to follow the strict rules of their town are struck with a brand new problem when their group of eight becomes nine. John Wyndham introduces us to a post-apocalyptic time period where a God-fearing community tries desperately to rid their town of all deviations in The Chrysalids. Although this science fiction novel had the potential to be a great piece of literature, reading it was like a chore, it was boring and I could not wait to be finished.
I’m going to stop here, since I am beginning to see small, easily fixable patterns in your writing. You’ve got a good paper going here, only requiring a few revisions to be truly great. Good job! 140/150
In my honest opinion I am very satisfied with this project. I put a lot of effort in it and I believe I may even be able to achieve above just passing. I think this because of the quality I put into this writing. Every sentence in this assignment is there for a reason none of it is just there to make my assignment look bigger because in truthfulness my assignment is quite small.
don't think, "O.K., I have to get at least a B on this paper." Instead, I
In final analysis, my writing has greatly improved during this semester, and having looked at the area's I most need to work on has given me an awareness of what my weaknesses are. Examining what I have learned and what I need to learn allows me to generate a strategy to fortify my writing skills. Critiquing my own work has given me insight into how my writing is progressing in this class and allowed me to see short comings I had missed previously. Self-evaluation is a helpful tool for anyone who wants to continue to learn what areas they can improve upon and how much progress they are making. I believe those who appraise their own work will have a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses then those who do not evaluate themselves.
Over the course of the semester, I feel that I have grown as a writer in many ways. When I came into the class, there were skills I had that I already excelled at. During my time in class, I have come to improve on those skills even more. Before I took this class, I didn’t even realise what I was good at. This is the first class where I felt I received feedback on my writing that helped me to actually review my work to see what areas I lacked in and where I succeeded.
the company to work on the film ‘The Little Mermaid’. Peter Schneider knew Ashman from previous work within the theatre. Ashman helped to compose music for the film and produced an exciting environment for the creative team. Ashman possessed both expert and referent power when managing the team. He possessed expert power due to his previous work within theatre and the expertise he shows in that field. Referent power was also a base of power, which Ashman held because of how inspired by music he was. The creatives saw Ashman as someone to look up to in a way due to this. Both of these notions of power created respect from the creative team, as Ashman was a fellow creative meaning he was able to work alongside the team and make his management
