Pros and Cons of Social Learning
While social learning is a good approach for inspiring creativity and innovation and improving performance, it has various challenges. The major challenge is uptake by employees due to perception of value and self-promotion. In addition to cultural resistance, lack of expertise, lack of support from management and security concerns minimize adoption of social interventions in learning (HCM Advisory Group, 2012). Further, the use of social learning technologies strains information technology infrastructure, creates integration challenges and creates the need for additional support. While there are calls for evaluation of social learning to enhance its effectiveness, there is a challenge due to the numerous processes and outcomes that have been proposed to support social learning (Cundill & Rodela, 2012, pp. 7-14). This assertion creates uncertainty regarding to systematic utilization of social learning in the entire organization. Although organizations can monitor the success and impact of social learning interventions, lack of clear tools make it difficult to justify investment. According to Lebel, Grothmann and Siebenhüner (2010), social learning can be used in developing evaluation and monitoring criteria for determining edaptiveness. However, to ensure long term sustainability of the interventions, both in interest/ownership and scalability, there is a need to self-evolve the purpose and supporting processes to become organic endogenous rather than directing social learning (Garmendia and Stagl, 2010, pp. 1712-1722). Failure to evolve would render the interventions ineffective within a short period. Time is also a critical factor in social learning. Sufficient time should be allowed to learn new knowledge and behavior change. There are often some external factors that pressure social learning and such pressures should be countered to ensure a successful learning process. Institutionalism of social learning is the major challenge in ensuring continuity of social learning approaches and in enhancing chances of changes approved by the management
According to Pascale, socialization is essential to the integration of new members into an organization (P 27). However, it is up to the organization to create an environment that offers both new and established members order and consistency through explicit procedures and implicit social controls (P 34). Furthermore, by providing organizational members with continuity and clarity, the firm is able to establish a strong cohesive culture that empowers its employees so that they may develop the social currency they need to implement change and execute tasks efficiently (P 35). It is this strong cohesive culture that has sustained some organizations over numerous generations (P 29); and it is this culture that Pascale’s seven step model of socialization is intended to cultivate (P 34).

In today’s society, individuals have a propensity to follow the ideas of others rather than create their own. Our society will not wear any article of clothing that is not in style or approved by their peers are even are scared of what others may say or think about them. Today’s Classrooms are filled with children who are too concerned, or terrified of being wrong and rather choose not to raise their hands in attempts to answer a question or even read a book aloud to the class for fear of someone making fun of them. When a student or two finally muster up the courage necessary to raise their hands in efforts at answering a question, eventually other fellow classmates will begin to follow. This is what Social Learning Theory entails.

The main characters in Hawthorne's story "Young Goodman Brown" are Goodman Brown, his wife Faith and the stranger who accompanies Goodman Brown in the forest. At the beginning of the story Brown is bidding his wife, Faith farewell at their front door. Taking a lonely route into the forest, he meets an older man who bears a fatherly resemblance to both Brown and the Devil. Later that night Brown discovers to his amazement, that many exemplary villagers are on the same path including, Goody Cloyse, a pious old woman who once taught him his catechism, but who readily shows that she certainly knew the Devil and practiced witchcraft. With Brown still confident that he could turn back, his older companion departs, leaving behind his curiously snakelike staff and fully expecting that Brown would follow.
Social psychology is all about influence. It’s the scientific study of how people’s thoughts, feelings, and behavior are influenced by other people. Social psychologists study social influence by different means of research methods - the observational method, correlational method, and experimental method. These methods are crucial for researchers because they each serve a different purpose, and differ in validity. Each method holds strengths and weakness and is used to explore different areas of behaviors.
There are slow adoption rates for internal corporate social networks for many reasons. Although management and organization plays a role, the technology factor is the main reasons why employees are refusing to use these internal networks. With the rate at which technology is becoming more and more advanced, social networking systems are constantly updating their software and user interface (Laudon & Laudon, 2013). This mean that employees who are used to traditional forms of networking such as email, have to take the time to learn new systems and keep up with more social networking than they would like. In the eyes of the employee, using traditional forms of networking is simply more efficient. In order to make these internal social networking programs work, companies need to make more user friendly and easily manageable sites (Altman, 2015). Management also plays a part in the slow adoption rates. Managers need to provide more incentive for employees to use these networks aside from basic social interaction. For example, instead of sending memo’s via email, or other traditional forms of communication, slowly veer employees to seek memos on the company’s social networking site. Making strides like this will give employees more incentive to at least use the sites more often and participate in discussions and posts related to the business. This will allow employees to explore the sites and discover other useful features that might help improve productivity within the office. Organization of the sites could also be greatly approved.
