Conductivity of Graphite Paper

Aim

The aim of this experiment is to find out how much the length of

graphite paper affects the amount of electricity conducted in a

circuit. I will perform a series of experiments to draw a conclusion.

Method

For this experiment I will be varying one factor. This factor may

affect how well the graphite paper conducts electricity. The factor I

have chosen is the change of length of the graphite paper.

To ensure that my test is accurate I will have to make it a 'fair'

test. For example I will use the same piece of graphite paper

throughout the experiment, as some of the graphite paper may be

different in thickness and width. I will also use the same ammeter,

power supply and converted bull dog clips because they may be slightly

different and if they are changed the results will vary compared to

other results obtained by different apparatus.

For the experiment I plan to use suitable equipment for the particular

variable. My variable is the length of the graphite paper, so I will

need a ruler to measure the lengths of graphite paper, a pair of

scissors to cut the paper to the desired length, a pair of modified

bulldog clips to attach the paper to the circuit, a power

supply/battery for the electricity and some leads to link the circuit

up. I knew that this set of apparatus would be suitable for this

experiment as I tested them before I started this investigation.

During my experiment I will be reading the current of the circuit. I

will be changing my variable, length by having 10 different

measurement readings starting with 30cm and finishing with 3cn going

down by 3cm each time. Using this large variation in lengths will mean

that my readings are more precise. I will also take 2 readings for

each measurement by breaking the circuit and reconnecting it. All my

current readings will be taken in mA, as this will enable patterns to
