My chosen career to research is law enforcement officer. I used a variety of sources on the internet to gather information about this career path/position including an face-to-face interview with a military law enforcement officer. A list of sources I utilized are: O*Net, OHH/DOT, USAjobs.gov, dice.com, internship.com, glassdoor.com, and careeronestop.org. I discovered throughout the vocational planning course, I realized that I am very interested in the protective services field and that my skills would be best suited in the particular industry of law enforcement as a police officer or military police officer.
The occupation that I explored was the market research analyst. Market research analysts collect, analyze and interpret different types of data to improve a company’s current product and increase profits. They look at three areas of the company; the product or service, advertising efforts and sales methods. Under each area, market analysts analyze which marketing efforts are effective and suggest ways to further improve profits. This occupation works in a fast pace and high pressured environment because they are continuously trying to meet deadlines. According to the U.S. Labour statistics, market research analysts “will grow at a rate of 32% which is must faster than the average for other careers” (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014).
My future career plans is to be an art therapist. This suits me as I have an interest in working with adolescents or adults with developmental disorders and I have a love for the arts. I also think I am good at listening to people, so the art therapist career plan combines the counselor side of me with the artistic side. My other choice would be a fashion writer or editor because I always had an interest for the fashion industry, since my mom is a seamstress who graduated from FIDM. Also, it would suit me as I like writing as a creative outlet, through poetry or my journaling.

There are several professional spectrums that can be categorized under the human services career field. For example, legal professionals can be very vital to the human services profession whether it is for inter-professional collaborations or for professional legal counseling. This can be found true, when taking a look at an organizational chart for any state agency’s Department of Human Resources (DHR) and/or Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) organization chart. The ultimate goal of these professions is to serve their clients while promoting and enhancing diversity within our communities as well as eliminating all forms of discriminations.
