Both authors from “La Vida Robot” by Joshua Davis and Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson share a similar perspective on what makes a strong and successful team. Davis’s perspective is working as a team with different strengths and weaknesses make the perfect and successful team and Isaacson’s perspective is working as a team with different strengths and weaknesses make the perfect and successful team. One way the authors’ perspectives on teamwork are similar is that each of the members should have different strengths/positions. In Davis’s “La Vida Robot”, the text states, “Oscar tapped the control forward while Christian gave a short backward blast on the vertical propellers.” (Davis 196). Oscar and Christian have different jobs but work together
to make their robot successful in the competition. In Isaacson’s Steve Jobs, the text states, “He could be charismatic, even mesmerizing, but also cold and brutal. Wozniak, in contrast, was shy and socially awkward, which made him seem childishly sweet.” (Isaacson 217). Steve Wozniak’s job was in the technology aspect of the first Apple computer while Jobs’ was more focused on business aspect. Another way that the authors’ perspectives on teamwork are similar is that anyone can be successful with great teamwork. In Davis’s “La Vida Robot”, the text states, “Four teenagers from Phoenix did the unthinkable. They beat the brightest minds in the country.” (Davis 196). The team from Carl Hayden High School beat the smartest school in the country when everyone was doubting them compared to the bigger schools. In Isaacson’s Steve Jobs, the text states, “In order to raise the money they needed, Wozniak sold his HP 65 calculator for $500...Jobs sold his Volkswagen for $1,500.” (Isaacson 216). Both Wozniak and Jobs did their own part in selling personal items to make money for their first Apple computer, such as selling a car and an expensive scientific calculator.
