William Armstrong’s novel, Sounder, takes place in the home of a Southern American sharecropper in the nineteenth century. In the beginning of the book, it describes an image of the father petting his dog, Sounder, in the pouch. The boy asks his father where he first got Sounder. The father explains how Sounder came to him along the road when he was a pup. The boy loves Sounder and thinks no other animal in the world can replace him. He thinks the most impressive thing about Sounder is its bark. It echoes so loudly, clearly, and musically that everyone in the neighborhood can hear it. Then the father tells the boy that they will go hunting with Sounder if it is not windy tonight. After the conversation, the father and the boy go inside where the boy’s mother prepared dinner. The father, the mother, the boy, and three younger children eat together. It is windy after dinner, so the father goes hunt by himself without Sounder and the boy. The mother then shells kernels of walnuts for extra money for the rest of the evening. The boy, with nothing to do, starts dreaming about the Bible’s story his mother often tells him. He dreams about having a flood and all the houses are floating on water then fall asleep. When he wakes up, he notices something he has only smelled twice in his life, ham. The boy notices that his mother is humming as well; she always hums when she is worried. After eating the ham for breakfast, his mother begins mending his father’s overall. At night, the boy feels lonely and keeps wishing to learn to read. He always wishes he can read so he won’t be lonely all the time. After a few days, the family is still eating from the ham bone. At dusk, three white sheriffs enter the cabin and arrest the f...

Many facts throughout the duration of this book support the theory of White Dog’s existence. At the beginning of the book no one but Sam can see White Dog; however, as the book continues “his children and his grandchildren began to see White Dog, but always at a distance” (Kay 90). If White Dog had not been there when Sam passed out, he could have died in his own vomit. This is the point when the children first see White Dog. Another fact that supports this theory is the food that White Dog consumes throughout the book. B...
At home, which was a large house called Judge Miller’s Place, in the sun kissed Santa Clara Valley in California, Buck ruled over all of the dogs that were there. Buck was Judge Miller’s inseparable companion, until a man named Manuel, who was one the gardener’s helpers, committed a treacherous act. In order to cover his Chinese lottery gambling debts, he stole Buck from his sound sleep and brought him to a flag station called College Park. There, the exchanging of money took place. Buck was loaded onto an express car to Seattle. On his way to Seattle, he found that a man in a red sweater repeatedly beat him. From then on, I knew that Buck would never forget that experience. In that part of the book, I found out that Buck was now an enraged animal and could only be tamed by repeatedly being hit with a club or a whip.
“What should we do?” Mattie questioned. Thankfully their elderly neighbor, Mr. Tom was outside raking leaves and rushed over when he heard the commotion. He busted through the door and scoured around to see where the screams were coming from.
The novel starts on Judge Miller’s property in Santa Clara Valley. Buck is the king of his domain and everyone knows it - from the lowly house dogs to the Judge’s sons. However, a gardener with a gambling problem soon ends Buck’s relaxed life. He sells Buck in order to obtain more money; Buck is sent west to be a sled dog and is cruelly mistreated along the way.
Do you ever wonder what you would do if you were being chased by a zombie? Last October on the weekend before Halloween, I got to find out the answer to that very important question. My friends Ashley, Anna, Vikram, and I decided to go to the Great America Fright Fest. It’s a very unique event where the whole park is decorated for halloween and filled with lots of scary attractions for the entire month. It had been a sweltering day for late October filled with lots of cotton candy and rollercoasters, and as the sun sank lower into the sky the real fun began.
One day I was walking through the meadow, feeling very sad and lonely. I wanted a friend to spend time with. My mother sent me out to play, but I couldn't find anyone to play with. I looked everywhere until I came to a house made out of straw. I knocked on the straw door, and a little pig answered and told me to go away! I thought that was very rude of him. I told the little pig that I wanted to come inside and play. The little pig said, "Not by the hairs of my chinny chin chin!" I was so sad. Just as I was about to walk away my dumb allergies started acting up. I sneezed so hard that I blew the house down. The little pig ran away and I ran after him, trying to tell him I was sorry.
**Dang! Why does she always stop the story? Because I can! Just kidding. But really a murder in the beginning. Well I gotta make it interesting. Plus it’s all Kayla’s fault. (Kayla comes out) What’s my fault?! Nothing. Gotta go! Bye!**

“It’s to bad that Mr. Griff is closing the shop,” Queen thought to her self. Queen and three dogs had been pets of Mr. Griff the owner, but now the shop was going out of buisness and Mr. Griff put all the furnistur outside his shop so people could look at them. Queen had to hold a meeting with the dogs. They loved the shop but they would probably have to go to the pound because Mr. Griff wouldn’t be able to feed them with what little money he had. Queen meowed a couple of times and the dogs came bounding over. First Charlie then skip and then spot. Queen climbed up to the top of the velvet chair and got right down to the point. “You guys are going to have to leave hear or
Hard work! Hard work is something that occurs in both “The Three Little Pigs” and “The Marble Champ.” To most people these two stories seem very different. “The Three Little Pigs” is a fairytale about pigs who run away from a big, bad wolf and have to save themselves by building houses and “The Marble Champ” is a story about a girl who isn’t good at sports but practices a game called marbles and ends up winning a competition which is something that can actually happen to someone. But if you look a little closer or deeper into both of these stories, you will see that both stories are trying to share that hard work always pays off.
She yelled, “I can’t take it anymore. The noise, the same old routine day and night, and the constant fear of being killed. I just can’t take it. I have to stay cooped in this house knowing that everyone else is dead.”
“The first thing you find out when your dog learns how to talk is that dogs don’t got nothing much to say.” The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness is about Todd Hewitt, the last boy in Prentisstown, and it’s not only his dog, Manchee’s thoughts that he can hear. Because of the widespread of a virus, the men of Prentisstown can hear each other’s thoughts all the time, called The Noise. One day, Todd stumbles across a pool of silence moving through the marsh at the edge of Prentisstown. The pool of silence is a girl. There are no girls in Prentisstown and finding her meant that Todd must run away from the only home he has ever known, but is Prentisstown hiding something far greater?
As we are near half way I turn around to notice that only 2 of my friends were with me and that Kev must have fallen behind the group. We have now waited in the woods for 45 minutes and no sign of Kev anywhere. As my friends and I start to get worried we head back to the mansion to try to figure out where our friend has disappeared to. As we slowly approach the house we run into a very creepy looking guy walking with his cats and his little baby son. He started questioning us on if we knew who this kid that he found in his house, and what we were doing in the wood in the woods at 12:30 in the morning. We refused to answer his questions and decided to leave the situation and hope that Kev made it back to the house
