Using the block method I will illustrate the differences and similarities of Connie’s character verses her sister June’s character from the story where are you going, where have you been. The story is about a protagonist fifteen year old girl called Connie who is living in her rebellious adolescent stage. She does not enjoy the fact that she is living with her family and most of the time she lets her mind wander into daydreaming spending time with the boys. Connie’s tenacious nature makes her almost argue with her mother about every little issue. Her older sister June who is twenty four on the other hand gets along well with her mother and she is considered the better of the two, June is an obedient hardworking lass who works as the secretary at Connie’s high school . She is tranquil in nature and does her chores with no fuss at all. Connie’s mother plays an important role on the story to bring out Connie’s character, she is envious of Connie’s beauty and her youthful nature. Connie’s dad on the other hand is more of a workaho...

“Well, Alice, my father said, if it had to happen to one of you, I’m glad it was you and not your sister” (57). Even though Alice was the victim of the horrid crime, she had to stabilize her own emotions, so that she could help her sister cope with this tragedy. Throughout Alice’s childhood, Jane struggled with alcoholism and panic attacks. “I wished my mother were normal, like other moms, smiling and caring, seemingly, only for her family” (37).
The Wrights home was a poor, lonely type of home. The trees that surround the house grew in a sad state. The road that led up to the farm was an unoccupied path. Minnie Wright is the woman who lives on these lonely grounds. She is friendless and mostly keeps to herself. There is no one for her to talk to, her husband died recently, thus, she lives out her life as an outcast. In hindsight, Mrs. Hale, a woman who knows Mrs. Wright, explains to her friend, “'But I tell you what I do wish, Mrs. Peters I wish I had come over sometimes when she was here I wish– I had.’ I [too] wish I had come over to see Minnie sometimes.’” Since no one takes the time out of their busy schedules to visit Mrs. Wright, Minnie feels unwanted.

Grace’s many siblings and weak-willed mother caused the need for her to develop strong independence in order for her survival. She is born in a poor family of many siblings with a submissive mother and an abusive father. Grace is the oldest among her many siblings, that remain in the house and within contact, which resulted in her having many responsibilities. Dr. Jordan would often hold conversation sessions with Grace in order to find out her connection to the murder of her employer and the head servant of the house. Their talks mainly consist of Grace retelling her life. During one of Grace’s flash backs, she remembers: “This was when our father began to tell me that I was almost a grown woman […], it was time I went out into the world to earn my own bread, […]”(Atwood 146). “Good luck with that,” Daniel's voice slightly sarcastic and he turned back around, going back to his sketchbook. Daniel hoped she would leave, abandon her quest to find a book in the Special Collection gallery and go back to her dorm, leaving him alone in his own thoughts once

By the time I got home, my brother had already arrived and was enthusiastically recounting the day’s events to my mom, who had obviously been crying. When he finally stopped carrying on, my mom told me to sit down and then she told me. I will never forget her exact words or even the way she said them. “Megan committed suicide today.” I stared blankly at her, I knew she had to be lying, she had to be wrong, Megan would never do that. We had been too good of friends for too long, I knew her too well. Megan was always happy, she always had a joke to tell. She had such a bright future, she was an excellent athlete and it seemed as though she succeeded in everything she tried.
