The work I chose to analyze was from a wall fragment from the tomb of Ameneemhet and wife Hemet called Mummy Case of Paankhenamun, found in the Art Institute of Chicago. The case of the Mummy Paankhenamun is one of the most exquisite pieces of art produced by the Egyptian people during the time before Christ. This coffin belonged to a man named Paankhenamun, which translates to “He Lives for Amun” (Hornblower & Spawforth 74). Paankhenamun was the doorkeeper of the temple of the god Amun, a position he inherited from his father.

However, this image is not complete without the Pharaoh. Not much in Egypt was. So to be considered “The Last Great Pharaoh of Egypt” is quite an honor, an honor that Ramesses III carries. This book talks about the experiential aspects of the Pyramids Of Giza, discussing how the size of the buildings, as well as the spaces and materials used, make the pyramids feel very grand, reflecting the pharaoh’s power. (Fazio 2013) suggests that the pyramids were built to such grand proportions to emphasis the power of the pharaoh in society as well as his god like status.
Never before in history did any monument receive such wide attention from the public and media like the Great Sphinx of Giza. The 73.5m long and 20m high (Dieter Arnold) stone carved statue not only fascinates people from all around the world, but also created countless movie ideas, novels, video games and raises questions to those who are interested. Undoubtedly, Sphinx has become one of the most notable figures of ancient Egyptian culture just beside the pyramids in the eyes of westerners. However, many questions remained in mysteries for almost decades until the excavation of 1925 by Emile Baraize revealed the Sphinx’s exotic design to the world's view. Why did the ancient Egyptians build this massive structure? For what purpose would they want to invest such resources and labors to initiate such complex project? How was it built and how did the Egyptians overcome the enormous difficulties with past technologies? The purpose of this paper would be discussing the possible identity of whom the Sphinx might be and compare and analyze the evidence from a material culture point of view. The paper would be lay out to four different sections. First part would briefly describe the purpose of this study as well as giving a brief modern history of the Sphinx. Second part would be discussing the style/meaning and its association and context with the pyramids of the Giza and how the Sphinx was built. The third part would be discussing kings who possibly commissioned the Sphinx to be built and analyze the style of the Pyramid to the style of those kings. Pharaohs were governors of the Ancient Egyptian realm who broadcasted themselves as sons of gods who upheld Ma’at – the Egyptian order of life. Most pharaohs ruled in a typical and expected way carrying the beliefs of their ancestors- though not all ruled this way. Akhenaten of the 18th Dynasty New Kingdom was not an “archetypal” pharaoh as seen through his goal to change Egyptian religion from polytheism to monotheism and through his building project in Amarna. Though he used traditional means to incorporate his changes he did so in an atypical way. After all his attempts at reform all was forgotten when he died and Egypt returned to the religious beliefs it had beforehand. This essay will analyse historical evidence that demonstrates his religious changes, the significance of his building project in Amarna and the aftermath of his death.
I am writing the analysis of three comics, which are, The Pride of Baghdad, The Lady and The Tramp, and The Persepolis. When I read The Pride of Baghdad and The Persepolis, I think that it is very fasctinating story. In my opinion, when I read The Pride of Bagdad, it reminds about the Iraq War. In addition, it also tells me on how terrible the war can be.

It was originally a tale told from the many tales in the classic book, “One Thousand and One Nights.” The setting of the book version is in China whereas the setting in the film, is in the city of Agrabah in an Arabian land. The reason behind the setting change and many other changes in the movie were influenced by the current political events that have occurred before the release of the film. In August of 1990, Iraq, ruled by Saddam Hussein at the time, invaded Kuwait. By January 1991, the U.S., along with 34 other countries deployed their own troops to Kuwait, trying to restore order to it. The Gulf War lasted six months (History.com). A year later, Aladdin, Disney’s first and only film with an Arab setting was released. Through the historical lens, this film deliberately mirrors the Gulf war conflict, shows Hollywood’s connection to politics, derides the Middle Eastern and Arab culture with Arab stereotypes, and also displays the dualism between the western and Arab cultures through the drawings of the characters.
Throughout time, books have opened the minds of many people. It permits people to travel to a dream world where every word captures their suspense and urges them to read on. Books that are so fascinating and vivid to the point they can not be put down are considered great. A great book is a piece of literature that allows the reader to relate their own experiences and feelings to that of the characters depicted. Everyone has heard the bedtime story of the golden lost city of Atlantis. It has been a child’s dream to discover it for decades, maybe centuries. This city has often been compared to the Garden of Eden. The birth of this fairytale lies with the Greek philosopher, Plato. Atlantis was modernly made popular by writer and U.S. Congressman, Ignatius Donnelly, in 1882 (Martin 12). According to Greek mythological history, Atlantis was founded by the god Poseidon and ruled by Atlas, a descendant of Poseidon’s ten sons of five pairs of twins, thus, the name Atlantis and Atlantic Ocean (McMullen 28; Martin 9). Plato recorded that this great civilization was “230 miles wide and 340 miles long” (Martin 7). Many questions have haunted the fervent researchers and dreamers, starting the race for the discovery of Atlantis. Plato’s legend of Atlantis and its fate does seem to have viable proof culturally and geologically as well as a possible location.
The Pyramids of Giza are famous because they needed so many people and so much effort to construct them. There have been many incorrect myths or ideas around who actually built the pyramids, and there are conflicting views. Recent studies say they were built by 10,000 workers, not 100,000, and the workers were not actually slaves of the Pharaoh, but paid and skilled workers, mainly Egyptian’s. It has long believed that this was slave work, but after much investigation, new conclusions have been reached, and it is not viewed as possible to be the work of slaves. They all lived nearby the construction site, in a temporary village made primarily for the workers, where they could stay and access the Pyramids easily. This village was a very organized community, and almost like it a real village, with businesses and houses. It would have been a comfortable residence for all of the workers, but they had a life of constant toil. In the sixth century B.C, the land that we now call Iran was the center of the largest empire in the world. The kings of Ancient Persia( such as Cyrus the Great) were the leaders of a great civilization that made amazing advances in laws, goverment and communication. Founded in 550 B.C by King Cyrus the Great, the Persian Empire spanned from Egypt in the west to Turkey in the north, and through Mesopotamia to the Indus River in the east. Unlike most empires at that time, the Persian kings were benovelent rulers, and allowed a diverse variety of diffrent people with diffrent ethnic backgrounds. The Persian empire was split into three diffrent empires with three diffrent time periods but the first empire was called the Achaemenid Empire. It began with King Cyrus the Great and ended with King Darius III.
In Haifaa al-Mansour’s film Wajda and Marjane Satrapi’s graphic autobiography Persepolis, the two protagonists’ parents approaches to parenting are different, yet have similar aspects. Wajda is about a ten year old girl named Wajda who lives in Saudi Arabia and works to save up enough money to buy a bike. Persepolis follows Marji from her childhood and into adulthood in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. In an effort to protect their families, both characters’ mothers argue with their daughters about disobeying rules. Wajda’s and Marji’s parents harbor opposing opinions about the value of how their society views them.
Deep in the abysmal, rocky contours of modern-day Luxor’s western bank, a collection of dry beds host the Wadi Bidan el-Muluk, otherwise known as the Valley of the Kings (Hawass 9). Here, Ancient Egyptian workers had toiled through scorching desert heat to create a series of tombs that would house the physical bodies of their pharaohs. The choice of isolation for this complex of wadis, their towering and mammoth architecture, as well as the detailed, colorful decoration depict the significance of the tombs to the Ancient Egyptians. Built during Ancient Egypt’s New Kingdom, there are 63 known tombs, most housing the bodies and possessions of renowned pharaohs and god-kings (Hawass 24). With every new archaeological discovery and breakthrough regarding the Valley of the Kings, our understanding of Ancient Egypt continues to flourish. Without debate, the Valley of the Kings – the most majestic and culture-rich burial ground of the world – should be the museum’s next main exhibit because it remains the most important and insightful look into the life, culture, and religion of the Ancient Egyptians.
