Introduction
In this report the industry context will be analysed using three contrasting hospitality businesses. The contrasting hospitality businesses will be Wivenhoe House as a boutique hotel, Milsom’s, which describes itself as ‘relaxed bar/ brasserie and hotel’ (Milsoms, n.d.) and Novotel near tower bridge. The management structure will be compared in each of these three businesses and staffing deployment and operational characteristics will also be discussed. The three business’ products and services will be evaluated critically and recommendations will be given as well. Finally one guest satisfaction system will be chosen for each business and will be discussed to see if the system helps the business to respond to changing customer needs.
Management structure
A management structure which is also known as an organisational structure is a way of showing the hierarchical arrangement of a business and the way the businesses’ chain of command works. This is normally shown in a chart form. See below for an example.

There are different types of management structure for example, tall vs. flat. Tall organisations have many levels of hierarchy whereas flat management structures have few levels of hierarchy. Also in a flat management structure, the span of control (the number of people reporting to one person) is wide, meaning that tasks must be distributed. This may be seen as a disadvantage because if there are many people reporting to one manager it may be harder for the managers to retain control which in turn may have a bad effect on the business and the guest. Organizations are initially structured around tasks, and as the organization continues to grow, the structure within the organization takes on many characteristics. Not all structures are advantageous, especially if they are lacking in some areas. There is a relationship between structure and size of the organization that affect the centralization of the organization. At the highest levels, the personality of the chief executive may amend the organizations' structure. The structure within an organization helps define the roles and responsibilities among the members from each department and work group. The four general types of organization structure are functional, divisional, matrix, and project based. “Organizational structure is the skeleton of an organization” (Feigenbaum, 2013) and how these individuals relate to each another. Structure is a statement of the current affairs, not the ideas, intentions or improvement within an organization. When business leaders develop their initial plans for an organization, he or she looks at how to design a company and takes inventory of all the tasks, functions and goals of the business. The leader then develops groupings and ordering of job positions, departments, and human resources to effectively and efficiently perform these tasks. Technology, size, environment, strategy and goals affect an organizational structure and effects, whether they are categorized as mechanistic or organic.

The external environment of the hotel industry in is very competitive and already well established. Trends in the market include promotional campaigns to customers using the "more bang for your buck," method. There are several different segments of the hotel industry including: luxury, upscale, mid-market with food and beverage, mid-market without food and beverage, economy, and budget. Each different segment offers certain amenities to appeal to consumers depending on what they are looking for in an over night stay away from home. As McDonald's looks at entering the hotel industry they have looked at several important issues dealing with an entry into this market. McDonald's would like to enter the market in the state of Illinois where the company's headquarters is. Illinois leads all other states in money spent on tourism totaling $61.1 million in the year 2000. Illinois also ranked fourth in the nation for leisure person trips in 2000. Hotel industry has several important barriers to entry including cost of entry, ability to differentiate from other hotels, and competition in every hotel segment.

The Hotel industry has become very important in the past years due to immense traveling and growth of international business. Hotel industry not only plays an important role in the life of people but as well as the economy of the country. Development and advancement in the Hotel industry have rapidly been taking place and especially since the rapid change in technology, it is very important for hotels to be promptly keeping up to date. This type of organisational structure has many levels of management. The organisational structure has been structured according to its own function i.e. marketing, finance, human resources and sales. This is known as a functional organisation. The hierarchical organisational structure of Wednesbury IKEA is very similar to a tall organisation structure.
In order for one to evaluate and identify with the diverse business structures, he/she must be aware of the meaning and standards that makes that structure. Various businesses functions in different ways as the world is full of technology and new structures, company cultures and new ways in which companies are run. In order to fully grasp the concepts of Organizational structure and culture in the movies, I will use the Movie Up in the Air and The Devil Wear Prada movies to analyze a business scenario from them.

(Enz 2009; Mintzberg 1980) Furthermore, it also determines the operating workflow, control of information, decision-making in the organization and the line authority (Mintzberg 1980). The facets of the organizational structure, the relationships that exist within it, and how the business processes (Bititci et al 2011) are controlled, determine the managerial style that should be utilized in addition to the strategies the organization could implement. Going further, a company’s organizational design and the parts that constitute it are seen as a contributing factor to superior performance, which ultimately provide an organization with competitive advantage over its competitors.
