People have 10 fingers, but it only takes the use of one to hurt someone deeply... In the story “All Summer in a Day,” and the piece of art titled “Pointing Fingers,” the theme “Bullying” is used. Bullying is an occurrence that doesn’t need physical or even verbal attacks to hurt someone, a simple back-turn is enough to make a scar in someone’s emotions.
Bullying is proven in this story multiple times because the kids do it in many different ways, whether it comes to physical harm, verbal harm, or just a back-turn. It is still bullying. “They edged away from her, they would not look at her. She felt them go away.” In this part of the story, William (One of if not the biggest bully taking place in the story), had asked Margot what she was looking at, and she didn’t respond because she was clearly spaced out. I believe this because the image shows all these fingers pointing to one person, basically targeting them. The expression on the victims face while the fingers are being pointed at him/her. I believe this relates back to the theme because it’s one thing to have friends joking around with you and you all know it’s a joke, but it’s another to be doing it to someone who doesn’t like it. And that’s the case in this image. Next place is where the fingers are pointing. Secondly, this part of the picture relates to the theme because it shows how the fingers didn’t all point at different people, they chose to put the blame on whomever the victim was even though they themselves might be guilty of the same thing. Both the expression and the fingers related to the theme bullying because they both told a story of how what was happening was wrong and inconsiderate towards the person in the middle. As the sun began to hide behind the clouds and began to rain, Margot felt the rain to drip down her face. As she stood in the rain, her classmates then came to give her the flowers that they had got for them.
Most kids are influenced by what their parents do and how they treat them. In “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury, the kids’ parents want them to be safe and have a good childhood. In “All Summer In a Day” by Ray Bradbury, the kids want to see the sun very desperately and they would do anything to see it because they have been waiting for a very long time. In both books they use dialogue to show and how the characters acted because they wanted something very badly. It also shows that desperately wanting something can change your life and other people’s lives for the worse or the better.
Ray Bradbury is a science fiction author who is incredible at connecting his stories. His characters are all very similar, most of them with unlikeable traits and many character flaws. But if people dig beneath the surface, they realize how complex each character actually is. All Summer in a Day is about a colony on Venus, where it is always raining. After 7 years, the sun comes out. Margot, the main character, remembers the sun from her childhood on Earth, and is tormented because of that. In The Other Foot, it is about a colony on Mars, where a white man in coming for the first time in 20 years. The man is faced with hatred and anger when he arrives. Andrea Gibson’s’ poem ‘Letter to the Playground Bully’ is an unforgettable poem about bullying. She cleverly crafts a poem from the perspective of an 8 and a half year old girl who is trying to confront the playground bully through a letter. The poem’s sole purpose is to expose the hardships and reality for victims of bullying. She achieves this by making the speaker a younger version of herself. She wrote this poem in order to perform in front of high school and elementary school students to try and stop bullying. Gibson explores unfamiliar territory related to bullying in a straightforward, sweet, yet different approach.
There are many forms of cruelty. One form that many can relate to is bullying. Whether having been bullied or been the one bullying others, those cruel memories can forever be imprinted on one’s heart. In “White Lies,” Erin Murphy, expresses that although bullying is wrong, trying to justify bad deeds for good is equally cruel. Using rhetorical and tonal elements, Murphy stirs emotions with pathos, “perhapsing” with logos, and vivid images with diction.

Being the new kid is hard enough without having a very noticeable facial deformity. In Wonder, the author, R.J Palacio writes about a kid that teens can empathize since most teens have been bullied at least once in their life before. I would very much recommend this book to my fellow peers due to the excellent quality of the book.
Jodi Picoult’s thrilling Nineteen Minutes follows the lives of two teenagers, Peter Houghton and Josie Cormier, who both succumbed to bullying, whether it be family or school. The two sadly face external and internal injuries which come with the harsh action of bullying which can cause people to become reserved or have others reach a breaking point. Peter and Josie's relationship may contrast from the ways they were raised, but yet they share a common case of pain. The issue of bullying led the to a breaking point for which caused them to go past a point of no return for these teens to find a way to bring an unconventional end to their pain.
