Why do you want to be a part of the Community Consulting Project? The Community Consulting Project (CCP) allows students the opportunity to explore consulting by working with various non-profit organizations (NPOs). The NPO sector and its relationship with the political system has been a large focus on my academic pursuits before Ivey in my Global Development studies. Additionally, I have been involved with several NPOs in Canada and my native Bangladesh in the mental health and flood relief sectors. Therefore, the arrangement facilitated by the CCP will be an ideal stepping stone to understand the challenges of working in a consulting environment, as it will be grounded in an industry I am familiar with. Partaking in the Community Consulting project will also help me gain a sense of direction regarding the skills required to excel in the highly competitive consulting industry. By taking part in a team of well-rounded and high achieving Ivey students, I will have a chance to refine teamwork and leadership skills that are fundamental to thrive in a consulting role. Although balancing my commitment to the CCP will my extracurricular commitments, academics and recruitment will be challenging, I am hoping that it will allow me to learn more about the strengths and weaknesses I posses but have not yet noticed. Therefore, it is essential that the issue is initially tackled with a positive approach. As the academic commitments of all HBA1s are generally similar, it will be a good idea to offer a helping hand to the struggling contributor by inviting them to a learning team or offering to tutor them if there’s a subject they are particularly concerned about. I have noticed in my past leadership involvements that such an approach has significantly helped them overcome their struggles, and simultaneously made them more dedicated towards the
I would like to work for Habitat for Humanity because I want to lift families out of poverty and help them build lifelong tools, so they can teach others how to get out of poverty too. In detail, I believe that I am called to work for Habitat for Humanity because I was provided with a stable shelter that enables me to continue my education to success. If it was not for Habitat for Humanity enriching and providing my family a home, I would not be at Berea College. Most importantly, I can help Habitat for Humanity continue providing low-income families affordable homes through my past experience with community service and working past jobs that held high standards. For example, I have been volunteering with Berea Buddies for two semesters now,
I am familiar with service. For me, service has only extended to my peers and my community; however, I hope to serve the nation and all nations in the future.
Completing this assignment not only met the requirement for competency six but gave me a broader insight of competency
My undemanding of the duties and responsibilities of a public child welfare worker is to ensure the safety of the child. The worker would would first want to get as much informant as possible during intake. This will give the worker the opportunity to assess the safety of the child or children. If a worker finds that it is safe for a child to be where they are, they would just do follow up visits and report back to the agency letting them know the children are still safe. If the worker was to find that the children were not safe, they would do an investigation and intervene, when need be, to make sure they get the children out of that harmful situation. In the process the worker is making sure the child is save while also giving the family the strength to understand what a healthy and safe environment is for that child. Once the worker has educated the family, they may think it is safe for the child to reenter the home, however, if they feel like the family wont be able to take care of the child, they will find and alternative for the child.
My interest in social work could date back to senior middle school. When seeing the news reporting primary school students’ life in Guizhou, I found that I have been blessed and I wanted to render back. While everyone was busy preparing for the University Entrance Examination, I tried to persuade all the students and teachers of the third grade to join in donation organized by me to collect clothes and books for children there. I made up my mind to work on it and call for more help. Only when I specialized in Social Work in my undergraduate, did I understand how I can realize my expectations in a systematic manner.
I am interested in obtaining my masters degree in the field of social work because I am passionate about issues of equality and fairness, and want to be in a position to help out in this area in a constructive and meaningful way. Social workers have the ability to make direct, beneficial changes in people’s lives, often the people who need it the most. It may rarely be world-changing on a macro level, but social work, when done right, can have world changing effects, for the better, on the people it touches.
These chapters taught me how important it is to reflect back what the client has told you in order to make sure you are understanding everything properly. Using the skills taught in chapter six, I can ensure that I am giving the client the best use of their time, because instead of asking useless questions or just waiting for them to continue talking, I am able to direct the focus of the session to the main problems, with the help of the client.
Consultants must possess a variety of skills that help to enable them to provide the best advisory services to their clients. Two of the important skills that contribute to their profession and ability to perform the required work are data gathering and presentation skills. Exceptional presentation proficiency is especially necessary because it is essential throughout the engagement. These skills are used to pitch to clients, communicate to the staff especially in the data gathering period, to present their recommendations and persuade their clients to implement their proposal, and also to speak at conferences, workshops and training sessions.
From a young age, I was drawn to the healthcare field, not because the amount of money doctors, nurses and other health professionals made, but because of the dedication and contentment I saw on their faces helping someone in need. Growing up everyone wanted to become a doctor or a nurse and as a little child being a doctor or a nurse was a profession many parents wanted their child to pursue as a career. Needless to say, I fell into that category because I had high hopes that one day I will become a nurse. However, that dream came to a halt.
As an Industrial Engineer with more than 15 years of work experience, I choose Supply Chain Management (SCM) because I believe that logistics is the most dynamic, vibrant, challenging, technology driven area, and the future of any big national and international companies. It will give me the opportunity to know behind the scene of improving the companies’ performance by using SCM tools. If I work in this field, I can get my answers and a chance to work in the market of raw material, purchasing, production, distribution, logistics, and final goods. After finishing two semesters in the College of Business at University of Houston Downtown (UHD), I am really passionate about it and want to gain my knowledge in the logistics sector, learn new techniques and skills, and seek new opportunities.
After taking the StrenghtsQuest and the Holland Interest Inventory I have realized a lot of points that I’ve never realized before. I have realized there are certain things that I did know about but I just never justified the interest in knowing about it. After much consideration I’m honestly not sure if my career that I’m looking into is really what is going to fit my profile. I’m going to tell you my top three scores from the Holland Interest Inventory and the top five StrengthsQuest.
Two years ago, I was writing my letter of intent for my application to the Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in Healthcare Administration revealing my failures, and most significantly, that I lost my passion and didn’t know where to start. I also conceded that I was relatively unaware of the field of Public Administration (PA). Little did I know, examining PA theories would enable me to connect the final dots in the big picture of my life, where I came from, who I’d come to be, what choices I’d made, the relationships I nurtured, and my dreams and desires for the future. Although confidence came slowly and awkwardly, I discovered my desire to contribute to the advancement of public health policies. I am writing to express my interest in continuing to the Doctoral program in the School of Public Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). I am absolutely interested in the commitment to the advancement of knowledge, and confident my experience in higher education and academic research will contribute to my successful completion of the Ph.D. program, in the specialization area of public policy.

In the Summer of 2008, I took a position in higher education and soon realized that I had found my passion. It did not take me long to realize that I enjoy helping others achieve their goals. I love seeing their sense of accomplishment and it is extremely satisfying for me to see others finish the degree they have worked so hard for. It is rewarding to see them achieve the educational and career goals they set out for at the beginning of the journey. I currently work as an Academic Advisor at a state university and I plan to continue working in higher education for the remainder of my career.
Previously I helped design then delivered a 9-unit training programme (I.T. and Customer Care) which was rigorously scrutinised by City & Guilds and accredited at Level 2. I found that an exhilarating phase and moving from training to teaching was not a calculated decision; nevertheless I have grown as a lecturer – achieving a grade 1 during the college’s last OFSTED inspection. These experiences helped develop my organisation, administrative and some of the research skills, plus, strong communication and interpersonal skills are additional strengths – essential in my current role and will be needed throughout this programme.
