Hello Friends, Hope everyone enjoyed the Commons Day!!!! I saw some of you at the event and Ms. Henriquez is such a great speaker. I even got a signed copy as well as a selfie with her. This year’s speaker systems are much better than those of my year and I really learned a lot from listen to her speech. First of all, just as I mentioned in last announcement, there will be a Co-Curricular Event Reflection for the Commons Day. In this reflection, you can discuss your personal reaction or the connections after her talk. More details about the assignment is indicated on Blackboard and it will be due on Wednesday Oct 26th. Next, all the groups must decide the two organizations they are researching on and email them to Jamie before Wednesday …show more content…

Her slow yet concise way of speaking, coupled with easy to follow transitions allowed for a speech that was enjoyable to listen to. Her use of examples from her personal life allowed her audience to get a picture of who she was if they did not know, and allowed her to better relate to them by provided examples of how she is related to the college they are graduating from. Her reference to many modern political problems allowed her to bring up her important role as an activist and facilitated further understanding from the audience. While some areas of her speech were weak, such as the longer than needed pauses and her lack of consistent eye contact, to a few points where she didn’t speak clearly enough, the overall picture that was her speech was fairly strong. Looking at this speech, I hope to incorporate some aspects that I failed to include in my previous speeches. Some of these include her use of hand gestures to emphasize and exaggerate certain phrases and topics, and her combined use of appeals. While my initial thoughts going in were “This is boring” and “This is too slow”, it evolved into me wanting to hear more, and overall my defeat in the beginning turned into a victory at the
There is arguably no group that has faced more discrimination in modern society than queer people of color. Although often pushed together into a single minority category, these individuals actually embrace multiple racial and sexual identities. However, they suffer from oppression for being a part of both the ethnic minority and queer communities. As a result, members are abused, harassed, and deprived of equal civil rights in social and economic conditions (Gossett). In response to the multiple levels of discrimination they face in today’s society, queer people of color have turned to the establishment and active participation of support organizations, resources, and policies to advocate for overall equality.
At Community Boards, the skills and disciplines that I learned was that I was able to handle clients through phone calls more effectively and in a manner in which I can be neutral. I also learned to be very patient with some clients over the phone, where some phone calls had spent over an hour of the client’s time talking to me about their issues at their residence. I was able to cultivate the skill of being able to use different communication styles in order to deal with certain people and their styles, for often I would have to deal with people that very emotional, because of their situation, whether they be angry, sad, or hopeless, I had to alter my style of communication to accommodate their needs and try to calm them down. Although I
My first year in the doctoral program challenged me with newfound learning in an exciting environment. I am so pleased I learned new concepts and principles about leadership. Amazingly, I retained the information better because the year involved practical work. I am grateful for the experience because I was introduced to skills applicable to my life. As I reflect on the years learning, I could not be more excited about what is to come next.
We are in need of all cadets who would be available to attend, but we need to fill one spot and the others would be alternates.

The main goal of the event was to have the opportunity to meet other interests on campus from a sorority. They had the opportunity to do this with the eight of the Beta Phi Interests and four interests from the group Luis, Gilbert, Jessie, and Omar. They set up and participated in different activities to get to know more about each other in forms of icebreaker games. The first activity was to get into two separate lines facing each other, then someone asked a question where everyone then had the opportunity to answered the question with whoever they were face to face with. Every time before a question was asked they moved down the line in order to have the opportunity to interact with everyone. Another activity was that they were divided into

Attached is my tentative calendar for this week. I was holding onto it until after the sessions today because I need to observe members of my study groups presenting lessons this week. Most of the rest of my time will be working on finishing the grant audit materials. Please let me know if there is anything that I can help you with during the week.
It was great talking to Daniel this week and chatting about some common issues that we have been encountering regarding understanding NVC/CC as well as the challenges of integrating it into our own lives. I found connecting with someone about these struggles was extremely helpful to fill my need for understanding and to not feel as anxious about starting on the road of NVC/CC.
Reflection on the Day: While I didn’t necessarily get to do a whole lot this time, I was able to learn a lot about the students and the IEP process, which I really enjoyed. The IEP was such a cool experience! I’m sure I’ll get to do many of those over the course of my career, but my first one was definitely good. The mom showed up and was very talkative, especially in regaling the story of her son skipping school on Friday. She and her husband (but it was more her) were not pleased and laid down the law the next day: the student had to get up early and work outside just like it was a school day, taking the same structure of a school day, and was only allowed to watch the MSU vs. UM game for a little bit. It was good to hear that this student
During the semester, the daybook has been a terrific, educational tool for improving my writing skills. This past spring, I had english at the high school, but have not written much over the summer. My writing skills were neglected until I began writing in the daybook. After a couple of weeks of writing, my creativity began to flourish. The daybook has encouraged me to reflect upon my day-to-day life. Some of the topics I had the opportunity of reflecting upon were daily activities, world issue and my college experience. I wrote in a journal style, which allowed me to write to an audience. The writing experience was certainly entertaining. I enjoyed writing strange/humorous stories that occurred in my life. I tried to bring
The thought of community service was a bore to me before I began my volunteer work. I dreaded starting my community service although I knew I had to do it. Where I earned my hours did not even matter to me. I just wanted to get it over with. To my surprise it was not what I expected. Community service was not a painful experience; it was a very enjoyable and beneficial experience.
