Five Hours of Fear at Columbine High School
Five hours, that is how long it took for police to locate Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, the shooters of Columbine High school. From 11:15am to 12:30pm Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were shooting at random throughout Columbine High school. The police arrived 20 minutes after the shooting started, but did not take action until around 12pm. The Columbine Shooting impacted America by going from a country that was once thought of as a safe place, to a country living in fear and worry. Klebold and Harris attacked the choir room, auditorium, and the library ( Benson, Sonia). When they arrived in the library, they demanded that all the jocks in the room stand up, and they shot them all. “ All jocks stand up! We’re going to kill you all!”, said one of the gunman ( The Columbine Tragedy). Most jocks in the library were wearing a white baseball cap which symbolized they were on the baseball team. Aaron Cohn, a “jock”, was saved by one girl who held onto his back covering his baseball jersey logo. “ They were laughing as they shot, it was like they were having the time of their life”, recalled Cohn ( The Columbine Tragedy). After Isaiah Shoels, an african american kid, was shot, one of the shooters said “ Oh my God, look at this niggers brain, awesome man!” ( The Columbine Tragedy). When the police, swat team, and bomb team arrive on campus at about 12:00pm, the ambulance did too, and begin to transport students to the hospital. When the shooting finally stops, it’s around 12:30 pm and twelve students and one teacher have been killed. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris have killed themselves as well. The bodies of the shooters are not found until 4:30 that afternoon ( Benson, Sonia). Two boys by the names of Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris walked into Columbine High School around 11:19 A.M. with 99 home-made explosives, a 9mm carbine, a pump shotgun, and a double barrel shotgun. As well as being accompanied by four knives. Both managed to murder thirteen innocent people in total, twelve students and one teacher.
The deadliest school shooting to have ever happened in the United States at a high school or grade school, happened less than two years ago. On December 14th, 2012, Adam Lanza, who was twenty years old at the time, shot his mother, Nancy Lanza, four times and then brought firearms to his former grade school Sandy Hook Elementary, and fatally shot twenty children and six adults. Then the shooter put his own gun to his head and fatally shot himself. All of the children were between the ages of six and seven years old, and all six adults who were shot and killed were females who worked at the school. Lanza's father believed that if he were there himself, his son would have had no trouble shooting and killing him too. He also theorized that Adam shot his mother four times for each of them; himself, his mother, his father, and his brother. After the tragedy, the school was torn down and many gun-control debates heated up and schools greatly improved their security to prevent anymore potential attacks. To this day, the motive of Adam Lanza, is still unknown but the effects are still felt in the world today.

At 11:19 in the morning of April 19, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold stood at the west entrance of Columbine High School preparing for the deadliest shooting in American school history. One of them yelled, "Go! Go!," and then the two pulled out their shotguns and began firing, killing two students almost immediately (Jefferson County 3). Harris and Klebold began moving through the school randomly shooting students, detonating pipe bombs, and yelling about how much fun they were having. While this was happening, Coach Dave Sanders and other heroes were frantically trying to get students out of harm's way. At 11:26, while running past the library warning students of the killers, Sanders was shot by one of the shooters. He made it into a science room where first aid was administered by students. He died several hours later in that same room. The worst killing took place in the library during a span of about eight minutes starting at 11:29. Ten students were killed and twelve others were wounded. After leaving the library, Harris and Klebold wandered around the school in movements that appeared to be "extremely random" (Jefferson County 18). They eventually returned to the library at about 12:08 and killed themselves. In 49 minutes, 14 students were left dead, one teacher was left dying, 23 people were injured, and an entire community's sense of safety and security was shattered.

The columbine massacre the day where no one is safe in school or out of school. The columbine massacre is about two students named Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris both seniors 17 years old both two weeks before graduating they killed 12 students, one teacher, and 21 injured to their shooting on April 20, 1999. Both Dylan and Eric were some believe they were bullied by the sport teams in their school so they planned to kill the people who bullied them and other mostly anyone who gets in their way but that wasn’t really why the FBI he said that there target was everyone no one in pacify we will not get in to more details now. Dylan and Eric were both intelligent boys with solid parents and a good home and both had brothers younger than them. They played soccer, baseball, and both enjoyed to work on computers. Both boys were thinking on commit suicide on 1997 but instead started to plan a massacre in 1998 a year before it happened. Then the two boys had got into some trouble for breaking into a van on January 30, 1998 trying to steal some fuses and wires for bombs for them to make, but they got caught in trouble. So the court put them in a program called the juvenile diversion program, but even if they were there they were still planning the massacre and the court also put Eric in some angry management classes and people believe it worked but it didn’t he just did it to look like it work and both boys made it look like they were really sorry but they weren’t. One ubiquitous concern of parents is that of their child’s safety. Parents go through life making decisions that they hope will benefit the child. One of the decisions parents must make for their child is where he or she will attend school. School is meant to be a safe haven, a place in which a child is encouraged to grow and prosper. Tragedy strikes, however, when that safe place is twisted and morphed into a place of fear and anguish. This was the shocking reality for parents of high school students in Columbine, Colorado. Two shooters, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, Columbine High School seniors, entered the school and opened fire, killing thirteen, injuring twenty-four, and firing a total of 188 shots. Although Harris and Klebold committed suicide at the scene, their actions are a living reminder of the possible dangers schools are succumbed to and the necessary precautions that must be taken to prevent future events such as this from occurring. School shootings are some of the most horrific incidents that can take a community by storm. It can be hard to fathom how children can be capable of such horrible acts, such as killing their fellow classmates. Many people have tried to come up with explanations on how these terrible acts have occurred. These explanations have ranged to biological factors to how the way our society views violence. In this essay I will explain how some theories could explain these events and how they can help deter it from happening again.

Thirteen students were killed and twenty wounded in the middle of the day while attending school at Columbine High School. Suicide rates were at an all time high, rising to 17 suicides per every 100,00 people (Psychological Impact of the Great Depression). The Great Depression had strong impacts on the lives of people as well, causing a huge need for social adaptation. There were many disputes during the Great Depression; families lost finances, food, and many other basic needs. This caused stress among families. It was shown that domestic abuse and child abuse had increased during these hard times; this fact was argued by professional historian Harvey Green (Psychological Impact of the Great Depression).
