As an engineering student calculus is fundamental to nearly every aspect of engineering. My experience with calculus started before I became an engineering student, it started while I was still in high school when I was in AP Calculus BC. AP Calculus BC was one of the hardest AP courses offered in my school, appropriately, only the top math students were permitted to take it. However, in my class there was a sharp distinction between the students who knew what they were doing, who had some idea of what was going on, and who didn’t follow what was going on at all. In the beginning of the year one of my classmates, who didn’t know what was going on at all felt that in order to succeed he’d cheat off of me on the quizzes and exams.

If you have a reason to remember information you just learned, then you have a better chance of holding on to it. For example, let’s say a person has trouble with his/her multiplication tables. And the person loves to lift weights. The teacher would use the information form math and apply it to the weight lifting. Such as 5 x 5=25, and lifting five pounds five time is a total of twenty-five pounds. You see this comparison makes the student learn it better because he/she can use it in more ways than one. This technique has helped me the most when I was learning about percentages in math. I could not quiet get the hang of it, so the teacher applied it to how much money would one save if a $50.00 shirt was 20% off. This gave me the motivation to learn it. Second, you should be selective in what you learn. You only want to learn the main ideas and leave the supporting material alone. This one being your first year in college, you may have trouble concentrating while you study. Some techniques that can help your concentration are being selective, relaxing, and over learning. Being selective means to make choices about what is most important to learn. When you are studying, you should be able to know what may or may not be on the test, your notes for the week can be helpful. In addition, pay attention to charts, tables, and illustrations that you think may appear on the test. Relaxing is a good technique to use because when you are relaxed you are able to absorb more information. One way to relax is to use a breathing technique (inhale, count from one to ten, and exhale, and count from one to ten, and so on). Over learning can help you fight mental vagueness. When you are struggling in a class, it is best for you to learn more than you need to know about the subject. You can use these techniques every time you are studying or when you cannot concentrate.
Since I have gotten through the struggle of doing math, I now feel more confident in doing the work. Mrs Brauckmann syllabus and rules are highly recommended to be followed and she has three main important aspects for her class , such as attendance , being on time and late work. Students are to attend school every day and to be participating with the class. When you are absent the student parents must clear the absence with the attendance director.She has more aspects as to not turn in late work. Late work is to only be accepted if absence is extended but you are to come to school that morning to get make up work , you have them remaining three days for make up work to be completed and turned in.Our third aspect is making up quizzes and when a student is absent it is their responsibility to come to school on that remainder day. The reading clearly shows that mathematical advances were made by people from many different nationalities from both Europe and Asia. Some questions on the homework are conceptual and are related to the problems in the LearnSmart that we do each week. The Connect homework is based on the techniques we have learned throughout the lectures of the week. Specifically, Professor Schott walks us through practice problems that help us with the homework assignments. Not only are these homework assignments related to the lectures and LearnSmarts but are also key when it comes to doing well on the exams. If a student does not do the homework, they will not do well when it comes to the exams plain and simple. These assignments give us multiple problems that are usually on the exam.
