Ink embedded in my fingertips is now part of my identity, and I can never keep my fingernails clean everything I touch has the mark of an artist. Charcoal stains in white tees, dry paint chipping off my over coat, thoughts scribbled on the face of my palms, and graphite smeared across my brow; these things have molded me into the young artist I am today. I have fallen in love with
At first, I was resentful towards assignments that I felt were limiting my abilities. I didn’t want to understand why I was taking sculpture and photography classes when all I believed I could be inspired by was drawing. I was guarded by the pencil and the page. I felt safe within the containment of an 8x11 inch piece of paper. Perspective drawing, color wheels, value scales, and live models frustrated me because they were not allowing me to do what I wanted to do with my art. Little did I know, these classes and assignments would open my eyes to my fullest capabilities.

I was getting a lot more than I thought out of those classes; they were teaching me how to look at the world in a different way. My perspective shifted, and so did my love for art as I was exposed to it’s fascinating history and new mediums like word and collage. I began seeing the world in different ways, noticing beauty in what most people say is mundane. During the same year, I joined a group called The Young Curators, where we were given the resources and space to develop our own exhibition. Before this, I had never thought about the relationships between a group of work, light, space, and sound. It amazed me that I could communicate or emphasize a meaning by placing two pieces side by side, or across from each
When I imagine an artist, I picture a Parisian dabbing at a sprawling masterpiece between drags on a cigarette seated in an extravagantly long holder. He stands amid a motley sea of color, great splashes of vermillion and ultramarine and yellow ochre hiding the tarp on the studio floor. Somehow, not one lonely drop of paint adorns his Italian leather shoes with their pointed toes like baguettes.

Going to college is something that has been drilled into my brain by the public education system since I was in first grade. They obviously did a phenomenal job because here I am, a high school senior, applying to various colleges and universities trying to find the right fit. There are many reasons why I want to go to college, but there is one reason above all others, and that is that I want to be able to share my passion of music with others in hopes of sparking a similar passion inside of them.
Who am I? Growing up I lived my life with the fundamentals of art as therapy. I participated in dance, theater, music, shop class, and produced photography, origami, ceramics, sculptures, paintings and drawings. There wasn’t a creative outlet I hadn’t tried in my community. I often took it apon myself to strengthen these skills by staying late in art class and by teaching myself new skills not readily available to
From an early age I have always had a strong interest in art, and have been involved with it in some form all through my life. In year nine I realized that it was something that I might like to pursue as a career, I started taking it more seriously. The Chase's art department encouraged me very well and helped me develop my art skills.
As an aspiring artist, the idea of integrating our bodies physically confining us to construction of imaginations constitutes your skill as a creator. Our minds have no limitations, yet our bodies are not like the convention of a flat surface compelling a greater
When you love to do something, you want to do it every day, all the time, till you get sick of it. Even then that excitement and devotion to do it is still there. That is how I feel about art. I have a great passion for it. It is a form where I can express myself in a way words can’t.

Art classes throughout kindergarten and up to my junior year in college have taught me so much about expression, performance and making a statement. Learning and practicing art introduces a new way of processing information, and approaching problems. In my
In the past, I never know I will falling in love with the design. However, since my entrance into middle school, a little art classwork have shocked everybody. ...rcoal and graphite layered, line drawings, to Hackett’s fine lined micro and ballpoint pens, colour and water coloured pencil mutated animal drawings, to Johnson’s simplistic yet effective graphite and ink cartoonistic drawings. Drawing is concerned with making marks but within contemporary art, it is the type of drawing media, heaviness and lightness, looseness and tightness of these marks that defines what the drawing makes us feel when these marks come together.
Art had always been a big part of my life, so I feel that art is more than just an academic subject as it is a way of life that gives people an outlet to express themselves. Art allows us to express ourselves when words fall short while also giving us the ability to share a story without a single word being said. For centuries, people from all over the world have used art to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and actions throughout their lives, creating stories for others to observe, interpret, and make meaning of. Art not only encompasses expression, it also includes creative thinking, higher order thinking, and problem solving. Art stresses the importance of developing creative problem solving skills to express and learn about ourselves and the people around us.
The arts have influenced my life in amazing ways. Throughout my life, art has been the place I run to and my escape from the world. As I’ve grown older, art has become so much more than that. Every piece of art I create is a journey into my soul. It’s a priceless way to deal with my emotions and my struggles. I create art not only because I enjoy it and because I want to, but because I have to. Somewhere deep inside there is a driving force, urging me to put my heart down on paper. I become emotionally attached to each of my pieces because they are like dashes on the wall marking my growth. Each one is the solution to a problem I have dealt with and overcome.
