“Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, please share your story”. Everyone has that one special thing in their life that makes them feel complete. This could be something that had happened in their past, something they are looking forward to, their person identity, an interest of theirs, or a talent they feel is meaningful to them. I feel that there are a lot of things in everyone's lives that feel meaningful to them, to me, I feel all of these as well are meaningful to me but what I feel stands out is a talent I have obtained over the years. In my thoughts, a talent is something you can be born with or grow to have. For me, I feel that I was born with, as well as developed, the talent of drawing and seeing things in a unique perspective. When I was younger I can remember sitting at the table or on the floor drawing and coloring on any kind of paper I could. I was also a quiet child which helped me grow to become a more introspective individual. There were moments when I was younger and playing make believe with my siblings and friends that I could actually envision a whole new scene on the …show more content…
When I start to feel stress from school or things falling apart, I take some paper and start drawing whatever comes to mind at that moment, which can help me figure what the problem is and how to fix it. Drawing has always been in my life to the point I can’t really remember a time where I didn't draw. There are times where I will be sitting watching a movie or a show and something comes to mind. If I try to ignore it, I start to feel a bit empty and I know what it is. It is usually something on my mind that wants to break out and I find the best way to harvest it is by putting it to pen and
Waving to my teammates as I walked out of the tennis courts, the reminiscence of a smile appeared on my face after winning a close match. A freshman teammate joined me and I heard her take a deep breath as soon as we were out of others’ earshot, muttering something nervously. “I’m sorry, what was that?” I asked a little too loudly, the excitement still buzzing. She mustered courage and made sure to speak clearly this time: “I’m being bullied, and I feel so trapped that I only see self-harming as my way out.”
I endeavor to obtain excellence in my academics; I wish to exemplify scholarship by constantly asking the whys and hows of things. I will not let a bad grade define who I am as a student or who I will become. I also want to take the most challenging classes available, not because it will look good on my college application, but because I genuinely love the concept of learning and discovering new things. Education doesn’t end after high school, so I plan to attend university, eager to attain the knowledge to better understand my world: and expand it.
In my life, I had not had the chance to be a part of something that influenced me much, until I joined football my freshman year in high school. Joining football was perhaps the most devoted and wisest thing that I did because shortly after joining I began to see changes for the better, and from then I saw the person that I wanted to be in the future. In other words, it shaped the person that I am today and will be for the rest of my life. Not only did the sport influence me but it also equipped me with a new mindset that affects me today in my decision making skills, time management and many other beneficial life virtues. I believe that these virtues will bring me success in the nearest future because I feel confident about myself and I feel more in control in my life through my actions, all thanks to simply joining what seemed to be a “regular” extracurricular.
The adversity that was displayed through racial inequalities became a platform for me to trust myself even more along with advocating an example for future young students to neglect any doubt previously conceived of them. It inspired the drive to exhibit triumph and became an ultimate fuel that leads me to the aspiration of love, hope, and success for the years to come. The configuration of a vision of fulfilling my own destiny shaped my undying dream. A dream to say, "I have a
From small stick figures, to cartoon characters, to more realistic anatomy and detailed work. This only happened because of my dedication and constant practice with a pencil and paper. Though I do not consider myself the best artist, I became proud of my growth and motivation that branched out to other aspects of my life. This habit of practicing led me to take challenging courses and pursue other passions, like music. Though music seems a little minor in my life, it runs through the family, and I could never be where I am without the practice time I put in both my passions. The small details I picked up from them have helped me immensely in school. From motivation to not give up and the extra effort to understand the material, I created a process of how to do things, and I found myself grateful for the times where I felt lost, and found my way back. Through art, I found my sense of self and the motivation to excel and challenge myself in everything I
My life, it has been one filled with many accomplishments, and yet it is also one that is tinged with hard times and struggles. Hence this has shaped who I am today and why I think I can succeed in the Leon S. Peters Honors program; because I believe our struggles shape our character, and who we will become. It leads us to our epiphany, our self-discovery of what we want to accomplish in life, and why we want to change the world for the better; this is the building block of what makes us human.
The experience of the APEC Youth Science festival was incredible. It has had an enormous impact on me in many ways, changing the way I look at the world and connecting me with people and events far beyond my formerly limited experience. I am extremely glad to have had this opportunity. It was a wonderful experience on multiple levels. It challenged me and expanded me intellectually and socially. I feel that this experience has had an immense impact on me.
From the opposed point of view I believe in "Natural Talent" but it still will only take you so far. Some people are really good at recollecting knowledge, processing, understanding and then applying. Some people are just more prone to have a good artistic eye or hand. To be more athletically built, whether it being petite for gymnastic or bulky for football. Saying that, those skills can still be acquired. If you really care enough about something and you truly want to do it then you can learn. Though you may seem to be at a lesser advantage, starting off what may be perceived as behind, practice makes perfect. Naturally talented still have to put
Music is one of the most fantastical forms of entertainment. Its history stretches all the way from the primitive polyrhythmic drums in Africa to our modern day pop music we listen to on our phones. It has the ability to amaze us, to capture our attention and leave us in awe. It soothes the hearts of billions, and it is so deeply rooted in my life that it has touched my heart as well. Everyday I walk to the beat of the song stuck in my head and hum along to the melody. For me, to listen to music be lifted into the air by the hands of your imagination and float around for a while. You forget about your worries, your troubles and find peace within the sound. Every chapter in my life is attached with a song. Every time I listen to a certain song, thoughts of my past come flooding back
...t talent is, what influences it and how to grow it, in a different ways. Beside that, there is one point that i agree with Coyle that talent is not born but it is grown. His first chapter shown that deep practice can create talents. According to Gagné (2002), a Professor of Psychology, Université du Québec à Montréal, Canada, who made a differentiated model of giftedness and talent, argue that talent is an ability/skill that has been developed exceptionally well, whereas giftedness is a superior natural ability a to perform at a level significantly beyond what might be expected from one's age-peers in any area of human ability. In my opinion, every person might be born gifted, but if these gift is not appropriately trained, it will not develop into fully-formed talents. From this perspective, a talent implies a gift, but a gift does not automatically imply a talent.
Anyone who has every really hung out with me or has known me will tell you that I am actually a very humble person and I really mind my own business unless something involves me, then I go and take action into the situation. I don’t really like to shine I like to stay back and and follow up bigger and better than most. I like to advance psychological form so then I can better others with my superior mind set. I sometimes act and seem as if I do not know much or as if I am not as intelligent as I seem. I very much only do so to hide my true potential so then once I unleash it I leave them flabbergasted and put them at a very low disadvantage. Most people see me and just don’t even think twice about gazing their eye upon me and ponder about who
Everyone has a talent but some talents show more than others and defiantly impact your life more than others might. My talent that has greatly impacted my life is music and public speaking. These talents have greatly impacted my life because this is a part of my career and they will change my life forever so the fact that I enjoy it makes my life that much better.
I am a sophomore in highschool and I’m 15 years old. I play Volleyball and Basketball. I have accomplished a lot in my lifetime thus far. But I’m most proud of what I’ve done in volleyball, basketball and school. I’m gonna tell you my main focuses on these topics and a little bit about them.
What is Talent? “Talent is a natural aptitude or skill” (World English Dictionary). Everybody has their own and unique talent hidden inside them, some people may be lucky enough to find out what their talent is during their journey, while others are not. In my opinion everyone has a specific talent however, most of the individuals do not know or have found their talents, or at least have problems describing them. Perhaps it is because talents are reflexive meaning that they are unpredictable, they are like the air we breathe which causes us to take them for granted. People always say, “Oh, you were born to be a basketball player!” but an individual is not born with a basketball in their hands, nobody was ever born ready to complete a specific task although talent ...
As I have reflected on the examined life, intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually, over the span of this semester and applied it to our own life, I have noticed a theme that links each of these dimensions together. Life is a journey of self discovery where individuals are constantly trying to come to terms with who they are as a person. Through this journey, individuals can find their calling or vocation in life, discover their potential, know one’s self, and even just make sense of life. Furthermore, I will examine this theme of self discovery in the context of each dimension and apply it to what I have learned over the course of this semester.
