Collaboration is an important aspect of teaching, as a teacher, you will be collaborating with others. When it comes to collaboration the goal is for students succeed. In the textbook, it states that teachers must voluntarily want to collaborate with others. If someone was assigned to work with me because I was the “expert” I would treat them as an equal, you could also learn something from the teacher you are working with. If both teachers are not treated as equals the collaboration will not be as successful.
When it comes to working together, I would make sure that everyone knows that they have an equal say and that their opinions matter. It is important that you do not just say it's your way, I think it is important that all teachers have
a say in how you plan a lesson and assignments you are giving students. Make sure that the final decision is one that we all agree on will be important when collaborating. I think that it is important when collaborating you do not make others feel like they do not have an equal part in the decisions. When being assigned to collaborate with someone by the administrators it can have an effect on consultation. This can affect teachers because they might not want to work with that teacher but are required to by the administrations. There might be some teachers that might not do any work because they got paired with an “expert”. It is important that all teachers realize that student’s success is the main goal. The teachers should realize that as a teacher you are still learning and that there are always opportunities for you to grow and that might be working with other teachers.
My team consists of four other people besides myself, Lauren Chojnaki, Alexa-Louise Patnode, and Jacobe Loewen, and Ryan Tyriver. Together, we are tasked with the mission to complete a stakeholder analysis regarding a specific organization and their structure. For this project to be completed successfully, it is important that all team members are able to cooperate with one another and are able to use their different strengths to create the best end product.
One aspect I believe all schools should have is the element of safety at school. A student cannot efficiently learn without first feeling safe. In Joan Lipsitz and Teri West’s What Makes a Good School? they say, “In high-performing schools, the adults work together to provide a web of emotional and social support for the students, not just in the services the school provides but in the attitudes and relationships the adults establish with students” (Lipsitz & West, 2006 p. 83). Schools should not only provide services such as counseling, or food to take home to support their mental and physical safety, but ensure that the teachers employed at the school are making meaningful relationships with the students so they feel safe within the classroom. Another common theme seemed to be the idea of teachers working together, which I think is a great idea as someone who is a future teacher. In the article Piece by Piece: How Schools Solved the Achievement Puzzle and Soared, Karin Chenoweth states, “The point of teacher collaboration is to improve instruction for students and to ensure that all students learn” (Chenoweth, 2009 p. 116). Other than all the schooling that teachers receive a major way of how they learn to teach is through their own experience. Sharing experiences with other teachers can help to modify lessons, or to share out ideas that will better prepare a teacher for their own class. The article, “6 Steps to Successful Co-Teaching”, also discusses six helpful tips to implement into the classroom to make co-teaching successful. The first step being to establish rapport as teachers, the students will be able to tell if there is tension between the teachers so they will feel more comfortable if the teachers are comfortable also. The second step is to identify both of the different teaching styles. The teachers need to find a balance and create a consistent classroom. Third step is to have both teachers discuss strengths and weakness. By knowing both of the teachers’ strengths and weakness upfront they can see who can reach more students in different areas. Discussing IEPs and educational goals is the fourth step and by doing so both teachers will have a better understanding. The fifth step is to form a plan of action and act unified in all matters. Being consistent is very crucial in the classroom and even outside of it. The last step is to take risk and grow. The article discusses how co-teaching creates a safety net for the teachers to take more risks than when they are by themselves (Marston).

It is important to be able to discuss elements of learning that you are looking for in the classroom. Not only is important to hold this vision, but to help develop it with staff and be able to communicate it clearly. Many new educators walk into schools thinking that “quiet and order” are the expectations for classrooms, so even though they are doing some powerful work in their classrooms that looks quite messy, they are worried that it does not fit in with the vision of their boss. Due to this, many will often try to tailor their work to look like what they think the principal wants because they really don’t know what is expected. Fairness: I think that ensuring fairness will take a delicate balance because some people are more approachable than others. I know I am drawn to those who are more positive and friendly, and I tend to keep my distance from those that complain and are negative, but I think those types notice when you keep your distance. I try to talk to a teacher everyday about different topics. By talking with other teachers who are in there first-year teachers or seasoned teachers they have different ways of seeing thing. These teachers give me a different thought on how to do certain lessons. I realized my classroom setting is different due to how low my students are compared to the rest, but they really helped me to understand how to bring common core standards down to the level that my students need to learn. Like I said before, I can be doing 4 different lessons at the same time, but we 're all still doing a main theme. To be compassionate about what their students are dealing with outside of school. Take the time to sit down with the student and talk to them, if there is an issue. Even though, the teacher and students schedules get occupied with the amount of work that needs to get done. There is still a way to reach out to a student or teacher if one of them is determined to do it can happen. Nowadays, it is easy to communicate between them both, so there should not be an excuse about not having the proper communication. Then, respect develops more between them. The teacher gives a clear act of respect toward the teacher; therefore, the student does the same for the teacher. There should not be special treatment or anything like that at all. All of these factors mentioned are descriptions of an effective teacher and good qualities that they must express while entering into the teaching profession; that is what makes a teacher
...I believe through the use of critical thinking, communication with students and parents and showing the creative side of learning the collaboration within colleague would be enhanced. I know from my prior experience within the classroom as a substitute that without some collaboration the students are at a disadvantage. One memory stands out the most when collaboration is mention is when I was subbing for a ECE Teacher in a regular learning classroom, while the teacher was giving the rest of the students their assignments I was working one on one with a ECE student that needed the extra help in order to fulfill their task. The teacher and I collaborated on the questions that the student had left to complete before moving on to their homework. Through the use of collaboration the student was able to complete their task and be on the same task as the rest of the class.
