Parents and teacher start to say that club sports are affecting kids education and academics. However, some people say that is one way to get a scholarship. Which is more important to you, being good at sports or being smart? Club sports take up a lot of time. Practices prepare your for competitions, but do those practices interrupt your study time. A study shows that over 50% of kids spend more time playing club sports than they do studying for school work. Studying is very important to school. If you have a big exam coming up you are going to want to be prepared for it. Instead of studying you are at practice. Most of sports happen after school and that is when most kids usually homework.
A high school student athlete from a division 1 school says,” after school and i go right to practice and then I don't get home till later and I still have 30 math problems still to do. Practices take up most of your time after school. High school students also say practices run very late and by the time you eat and shower it is time for bed because you have school the next morning. Also if there is a competition of a school day kids are responsible to make the time up on their own, but is that really part of responsibility for school? A high school athlete stated, I missed one day and I was behind an algebra 2 test, 2 chemistry tests, and 3 missed spanish tests all in one
day. Although other may argue that it will help get scholarship and stay healthy, it will cause other issue in the meantime. Only 2% of high schoolers get a scholarship to a NCAA school for sports. If you want a scholarship for school there is 34-57% chance you will get a scholarship. Scholarships help a lot of kids get into college, or especially take off a big chunk of money to help afford college. College can be expensive, books, classes, dorm rooms, food, and supplies. Club sports do help kids stay healthy, however there are kids who don’t play club sports who are healthy. There are many other ways to stay healthy than just play club sports. Such as, eat healthy food not just cookies and potato chips. As you can see, club sports are a great opportunity but also a big distraction. Homework and kids grades and the time missing make a big impact on a kids academics and education. On the contrary, kids could get a scholarship for sports. Colleges pay attention to schooling because that is what college is for to learn more, college is not just for sports. Let kids focus on education and academics so they can have a great learning environment.
Amanda Ripley argues in The Atlantic in her article “The Case Against High School Sports”, that the United States place too much attention on sports rather than academics. Ripley argues that sports programs at schools should be reduced, maybe even cut out completely. She states that there are a lot of countries that outperform America on international tests, and it is because they put more of their emphasis on academics, where the United States puts more of an emphasis on athletics. Ripley says that high school sports negatively affects academics. (1). I disagree with Ripley on this topic; I think that sports are important for young kids because it teaches them very valuable life lessons and it keeps them out of trouble.

Sports are a crucial part of an individual 's character. Counter arguments made against having sports at schools are getting more and more public. The arguments make people, think again about having students play sports. Sports are useful because they give players skills they can use on and off the field: strength, leadership, and confidence.
While this is not completely true, sports develop people in many ways still, some people say that “sports make me what I am today.” While it is impossible to prove exactly the way each individual takes in sports, it is seen that overall it has some positive effect. Sports are a tool of development and instead of it being a choice between sports and academics, the real answer is both and that they work together to constantly develop quality generations of people. Though problems exist, the true qualities of sports maintain the role they have in developing young ones.
One piece of evidence is from scholastic news magazine, “Should Schools Get Rid of Sports” “A 2013 report from the Institute of Medicine, physically and active kids have more focus, are better problem solvers and score higher on tests.” Also from the scholastic news magazine, “Should Schools Get Rid of Sports” it states, “A 2012 study by the Datalys Center found that young athletes have higher scores on math and english than those who don't participate in sports.” And finally from scholastic news magazine, “Should Schools Get Rid of Sports” is says, “Today studies show that schools with big athletic programs tend to have lower dropout rates.” If we want these kind of academics we could bring back school sports. In conclusion, even though sports cut down school budgets they are a big tradition to school. “If you don't go to school, you can't play sports.”-Scott
Youth sports can be a learning experience or it can be a health risk to the athletes. Youth sports can teach young children the value of hard work and discipline or it can be emotionally and physically damaging. Three main points are how sports keep you healthy, how they build character, and the values that they will learn from sports and how they will use in the future. These three ideas prove that youth sports can be healthy, they build character, and can teach them the value of hard work and discipline for your kid.
All schools require students to maintain a certain minimum GPA, attendance, and discipline standards in order to be permitted to continue practicing and playing with the team. Coaches push the point that school comes before the sport. Although it takes self-control to finish things on time during sports, a student who doesn’t do homework during their season most likely doesn’t do it the rest of the year either while they don’t have a sport. Whereas a student who cares about their grades and regularly does their homework and focuses in class will continue to do just that no matter their extracurricular activities during the season. One of the lessons I've learned from playing a sport is how to manage my time and keep an organized environment. In my opinion nothing could have given me the same motivation to figure this out besides wanting to do well while playing soccer. Making an assumption like this is not fair nor valid when there are different types of
GOING OUT OF BUSINESS Sports Authority was a sporting goods franchise with over 500 locations nationwide. Sports authority is based out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and the initial purpose of the "The Sports Authority" was to bring the same idea from what megastores such as Toys R Us and Home Depot were doing and bring it to the sporting goods industry. Jack Smith was unsuccessful in his first attempt, but soon after in 1990 he got a second chance and was running eight megastores in the greater Florida area. Smith's confidence and immediate success landed him a buyer from the Kmart Corporation for $75 Million in march of that same year. In the four years following The Sports Authority grew to 100 stores nationwide.
In front of my bed, a small cork board is pinned to the wall. Every night since the fall of 2012, I have read the soccer motivation quotes before I went to sleep. As my high school years flew past me, the signs piled up It seemed as though before I had time to blink, it was the summer before my senior year. The night before my first day of conditioning, I rearranged all the things I collected to motivate myself over the past three years. One of those motivators that did not exist on my cork board, however, were my past captains. I had always looked up to my captains. One of which was Abby. I had always admired Abby’s determination, especially watching it increase after receiving the captain spot. I used her determination to drive my own. Every year, I strived for their approval and compliments. From the moment I started soccer, I knew I wanted to be a team captain my senior year.
Student athletes live very busy lives. A typical school day runs from 8:00-2:30, add in a two- hour practice or game, score a part time job, dive into some family time, a grand slam of homework and catch a little bit of sleep. Students are more stressed due to the many activities they are a part of. This issue affects a lot of people not only in this school district, but most other high schools throughout the country. All student athletes exercise more than other children who are not involved in an extracurricular sport. In school athletics, the players are called “student athletes” meaning that school activities come first. There are strict rules for student athletes, not only on the field but in the classroom as well. In physical education
Are high school sports beneficial or not for students? I personally believe if a student is in a high school sport they’re forced to prioritize between school and their sport, and at a young age I believe the student would decide to use his time to improve in his sport instead of school. Which in the long run would affect his academics, unless they decide to stay up late and work on their homework to keep up with both school and their sport. But, even like that in time the lack of sleep would catch up to them, and cause them to do even worse in both academics, and sports. High school sports are like the lotto in my opinion, many play but only a few get rewarded for their work. Therefore, high school sports cause more negativity than positivity.
Soccer is one of the most popular and most viewed sports around the world. Modern soccer, or soccer as we now know it, started in England, the home of Barclays Premier League. The Barclays Premier League is known to be one of the most competitive, overenthusiastic, and unpredictable league in the world. The football club that I love most in the league is Manchester United, or The Red Devil - the nickname of them.
Honestly, coming into this class, I had no idea what to expect. I have never been in a sports management class, and honestly don’t know much about sports with the exception of baseball. All I knew coming into this class is that it was online, which was a benefit to me as in I’m a better learner when I get to work at my own pace. However, when I read the syllabus and figured out that this class would be mainly writing proposals on different topics, it began to worry me. The last time I had written an essay was my senior year of high school, so I knew I’d have to bring out some of the old knowledge to be able to write a quality paper again. Even though writing papers is a dislike of mine, these proposals turned out to be a good experience
Sports programs have been an integral part of all schools. They support the academics of the school and therefore foster success in life. These programs are educational and help produce productive citizenship. They help students experience and build skills that may help them in their future, like interpersonal and time management skills. Education may kindle the light of knowledge, but sports help to maintain the proper physique. Sports are also an important means of entertainment and a use for energy after long hours of study. Sports increase a student’s performance not only in the classroom but also in their life.
The game of football is an essential determining factor that turns boys into men, and every boy at some point should learn to play the game. Not for the game itself, but for the things it teaches about working hard to achieve a goal and how to find another way to reach that goal if failure ensues the first try. The fundamentals of football were drilled into me as a three year old, along with tremendous off season workouts and being able to coach little league football and passing down my knowledge to others, are the key factors that lead to my breakout season and being one of the best players on the team.
