Climate Change: A Ticking Time Bomb
Call it climate change or global warming––it is legitimate. Arguments should not be made about the existence being a hoax; scientific evidence, based and backed by facts, shows the reality of it. Year by year, global warming gains strength and because of that we are destroying our planet and exterminating our existence.
Diseases are gaining power and killing us quicker because of climate change. According to the U.S. Global Change Research Program, climate change is making diseases more threatening and making people more vulnerable to them. NASA suggests, “Based on a range of plausible emission scenarios, average surface temperatures could rise between 2°C and 6°C by the end of the 21st century”. Mark Lynas, a journalist and environmentalist advocates a spine-tingling and frightening story based on facts of what our world will look like as the planet’s temperature increases all together in his book, Six Degrees: Our Future On A Hotter Planet. Lynas insists that at two degrees celsius increase of the earth’s total temperature, humans will find themselves embedded with ravaging heatwaves––more gruesome, longer and painful than today’s. People will begin dying of hunger as food becomes scarce because of the ravishing heat and lack of water. With a limited amount of clean drinking water and a key to human survival, humans, especially in poor countries will begin to die as they struggle to find any. Increased rain may sound like a good thing especially in drought-stricken California, but in other places this will bring devastating amounts of rain and storms leaving behind cities and countries underwater and forgotten for eternity. Although we will still be alive at temperatures like this, it will be at a serious and expensive cost as humans begin to adapt to a new world.
