I am doing my observation at Minnesota Math and Science Academy which is in west St.paul, I have done all my observations at this school, teachers and administers are very nice and welcoming people, I am observing elementary classes, especially third and fourth grades, because these are my dream classes to teach. With my last two visits at the school, I spend with grades four and three, each grade has two separate classes, A and B. There were big differences in both grades, the way kids behave in classroom and even how each teacher managed their classrooms was different, from class to class, even if the two classes were same grade level, each one was different than the other. Some of the classroom management/kids behaviours I noticed from classroom where, kids had no respect for the teacher, there were a lot of misbehaving kids in the classroom, actually that was special to only four B, but both classes from grade four were challenging and seemed so tough for me, after seen how grade four students act, it made me want to stick with only grade three for future teacher. And the classroom management the teacher used was, after couple time of warning, and isolating the kid to corner of the classroom, then she sends them to office, after sending couple kids to the office, the dean came to the classroom, and give lecture to all the students, and gave warning to those who
When I walked into the school, I was greeted by the receptionist who kindly showed me where to sign in and then directed me to the teacher I would be observing for the day. The staff was dressed very appropriate for the day and on Friday they were able to wear pink because it was October. Although I did not see much interaction with factuality with each other, I was able to witness when the teachers of a certain grade would come to pick up their students. I saw how the teachers interacted with Mrs. Lee and they were very respectful. The student’s behavior varied from class to class. Most of the classes were well behaved with only a few students causing disruption. Mrs. Lee had warned me that the kindergarten class is normally noisier than other classes, but to her surprise the students were very quiet and did their work independently with no interruptions. Mrs. Lee did a wonderful job at keeping the students disciplined within the classroom. She would give positive re-enforcement and correct students when they would do something incorrectly. She worked really well with the students and they students responded in a respectful manner to Mrs.
Establish a sense of responsibility by creating rules and expectations as a class. Have clear visual cues of responsibilities and consequences around the room. Use the support of other staff in implementing classroom management strategies. Use the school discipline system to monitor student behaviour. If students engage in misbehaviour, they receive a warning and are then sent to the timeout desk to reflect and write in the timeout book.
The event that I attended for the interpreter observation requirement was an event that occurred in the classroom and took place in order to provide interpretation for a guest speaker, Richard McGann, who was Deaf and blind. The event was held at the University of Pittsburgh during the Intro to Interpreting American Sign Language-English class taught by Jessica Adams on Tuesday, November 10th at 5:30PM and the interpreted lecture took place in a typical classroom located on the third floor of the Cathedral of Learning. Imagine sitting in a classroom, surrounded by children the same age as yourself. While sitting there, you begin to pay attention to your teacher but along with your classmates you have no clue what she is teaching. The teacher pays no attention to the student’s capabilities and interests. As a result, the students may begin to feel frustrated, powerless and degraded. As a future teacher, these are some of the things we want to try to avoid.

Students who do not offer such cooperation, who are unmotivated, present significant challenges” (Williams and Ivey, 2001, 75). High school school-children show the most trouble with cooperation and motivation; they only have a few more years of schooling and for some pupils that is the end of their education. That was one of the main reasons why I wanted to observe a high school classroom; the other main reason is because I have actually considered teaching high school grades. Based on Jonah's most recent eligibility date of 4/18, he has a disability ruling of Autism Spectrum Disorder. The impact of his disability of Autism affects his academic functioning in that he has difficulties focusing and demonstrates inappropriate behaviors. He will often respond to teacher's request continuously and loudly repeating the same phrase or question. His disability often causes him to demonstrate poor attention and concentration in the classroom, making it difficult for him to perform academically with his non-disabled peers. He becomes very anxious when he has multiple assignments that require more than one lesson to complete.

Why the classrooms need to be managed effectively? It is because effective classroom will maximize children’s learning opportunities (Evertson & Emmer, 2009). When there is no disruption in the classroom, the students can learn in a smooth way without being disrupted. The classroom management is also important because when a lesson run smoothly, it can undermine the student’s engagement in active learning, high-order thinking, and the social construction of knowledge (Jones & Jones, 2010). Hue and Li (2008) stated that some other terms related to the concept of Classroom Management are Classroom Behaviour, Discipline and Misbehaviour. While discipline refers to the act of responding to misbehaving students in an effort to restore and maintain order, authority and control. The school that I visited was new. It was the first year of the school opening. The school board had combined two schools into one, so the students had to adjust to their new environments and new individuals. They seemed to be getting along well with each other. Since the school is new the teacher has to adjust to new problems that araise. Times for the subjects and times for using the computer labs change. So the teacher must always be fixable for anything. In this observation of this classroom I learned about the enjoyment of teaching. How you have to adapt to each of the students.

Classroom management describes the process of ensuring that classroom lessons run smoothly. It is the groundwork for the classroom. When constructed well there is room for growth and progress, as well as penalties for non-compliance. Without good classroom management, learning is inefficient and the teacher becomes stressed. A stressed teacher leads to unruly students, which is where discipline comes into play. Discipline is “the enforcement of order – that is, ensuring instructions are carried out – is often regulated through punishment.” (Discipline, 2011) Teaching children to behave appropriately in different circumstances is discipline, this is done with punishment, or loss of privileges. Discipline is necessary in order to have a harmonious classroom.
I attended a second grade class at Smallville Elementary on February 22, 2014; the class began promptly at 0855. There are 26 children in this second grade class. There are 15 male students and 11 female students. The student diversity is 2 Hispanics, 1 African-American, 1 East Indian, and 1 New Zealander (White but with an extreme accent). Three children were left-handed.
The students that I observed in the classroom were of middle to high school. I went to see 8th, freshman, 10th , and seniors classes, they seemed excited and very curious to why I was there. The middle school was more alive and rambunctious while I observed them. The High school kids were more relaxed, more comical. Some were paying attention while others seemed tuned out to the lecture or involved in socialization with friends within the class. By the end of the class Mr. Hasgil had restored the attention of everyone by using tactics such as history jeopardy with candy as the prize with the high school kids. In both he middle school and high school the kids were mostly Caucasian with a mixture of black, Asian , and Hispanic in the classes.
Classroom management is a necessary component to every classroom. It includes creating a set of rules and clear expectations that all students follow. This helps unify the classroom for both the teacher and students allowing for a smooth, effective, and educational environment. When the students are aware of what is expected, they are motivated in order to attain the goals dispensed by the teacher. Some students are naturally motivated and want nothing more than to surpass goals for the sake of triumph and pleasing the teacher. In addition, during my observation even if this was my first day, I observed the different levels of intelligence of the students based on how they answer the question and how they react in the discussion. I also noticed their behavior inside the classroom, students at the back were very noisy, and busy doing unnecessary things.
