Teaching throughout the centuries has brought upon many different challenges for teachers to face. Adding diverse cultures to this classroom environment can sometimes make things more difficult and add to the challenge of being a teacher. In today’s society teachers have to educate students who come from different cultures, speak different languages and have a mix of abilities. There are many different aspects to think about when looking at diversity in the classroom. In this essay I will demonstrate the complexities of classroom management among different cultures in Australia. Firstly I will explore classroom behaviour and the challenges both students and teachers have to face, I will then move onto the attendance of students at school and the lack of resources some students may have due to personal reasons, and how this effect’s the teachers ability to manage and teach the class and the students ability to learn. Finally I will focus on the ability to manage a classroom that has a mix of students who are at different levels when it comes to learning and how this effects not only how the teacher teachers the class, but the effect it has on everyone in the classroom environment. To help me with this I will draw upon Churchill (2013) Teachers making a difference, as my main reference.
It is a teacher’s responsibility to make sure that the student’s behaviour in the classroom is appropriate and well managed, but doing so can be a difficult task. ...er’s should try to encourage and strengthen parents engagement in their Childs school experience, as the student is more likely to want to come to school and participate in work if they have the encouragement of their family members. Every single student has the ability to learn and reach their full potential if they have the right role models there to help them. All these aspects explain how it can be very challenging for a teacher to try and manage a classroom where every student has different learning abilities.
There are many complexities that teachers will go through as they continue their journey of being a teacher, this is just one major difficultly in relation to class management. In order for a teacher to be able to handle this they have to be extremely determined and whiling to do anything to help their students succeed and reach their full potential.
Dental professionals have a commitment to respect diversity and create equity of access to dental care for everyone (GDC, 2014). Diversity describes any dimension that can be used to differentiate an individual from others. It requires understanding that each individual is unique and accepting and respecting these individual differences (QCC,2013). These differences could be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender, age, socio-economic status or other ideologies (QCC, 2013). Understanding the impact that these differences may pose is vital in dealing professionally with people from diverse backgrounds and delivering equal treatment for all. Equality refers to identical treatment in dealings quantitates and values (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Thus, creating equality for all might not mean that there are no disparities between different groups. Equity on the other hand refers to fairness and the equality of outcomes and involves recognizing aspects of a system that may disadvantage a certain group and correcting them (Braveman, and Gruskin, 2003). Therefore, in order to overcome potential pitfalls that may create inequity to access, there is a need to explore the different factors encountered in our diverse society that may create these issues. As an example, patients from different ethnic backgrounds may be faced with barriers accounting for the less frequent use of dental care (CQC. 2010). This group will be used as an example and some of the issues behind this inequity of access will be looked at further.

In my twelve years of teaching experience, one thing that most of my colleagues have struggled with at some point in their career has been classroom management. Classroom management is one many keys to instructional success. Unfortunately, many have left the teaching field due to lack of knowledge of classroom management best practices.
Many may argue that diversity is the most important part of everyday life; therefore, diversity on a college campus must have the same importance. It can be found almost anywhere you go no matter what time of day it may be. Diversity can range from the concept of differing race, ethnicity, and gender, and also includes topics such as religion, social status, and age. Diversity “enhances social development, prepares students for work in a global society, expands worldliness, and prepares students for future career success. It also increases our knowledge base, promotes creative thinking, enhances self-awareness, and enriches multiple perspectives” (Aaron Thompson and Joe Cuseo). In response to the question, “Does diversity matter on a college campus?” the answer is yes. Without diversity, it would almost be like living in a world where everyone is like you, creating no challenges and making everyday life dull.
Diversity in classrooms can open student’s minds to all the world has to offer. At times diversity and understanding of culture, deviant experiences and perspectives can be difficult to fulfill, but with appropriate strategies and resources, it can lead students gaining a high level of respect for those unlike them, preferably than a judgmental and prejudiced view.
Educators must understand and recognise issues of diversity and difference amongst students to provide an inclusive learning environment. Each child brings to class a unique blend of differentiated social and cultural backgrounds, which can impact their overall success in reaching curriculum goals. Through educator’s acknowledgment of such diversity, students are given the opportunity to build a sense of identity and overcome stereotypical notions that society has created. I believe it is important to first analyze the word diversity when examining the need for diversity within a classroom. According to Webster's New Pocket Dictionary, diversity means variety, a number of different kinds. I often discuss and read about diversity in terms of cultural backgrounds; the unification of histories and stories from people from all over the world. Although, I believe that in a higher-educational setting, diversity can also be discussed as the acceptance of the various minds within a classroom. I believe that it is important to recognize the thoughts and experiences of others in a learning environment. Collectively, students learn from teachers, teachers learn from students, and students learn from their peers. By allowing diversity within the classroom, a sense of community can develop. Diversity encourages an active, not passive, learning style. I believe that the culture of Columbia College Chicago is dependent on diversity. The motto “Create Change,” suggests students actively seek the change they want to see in the world. In order to obtain change a community developed out of diversity must be discovered.
Amidst the excitement of Admitted Students Day, there is always one word repeated by student representatives, faculty, and administration: diversity. Brandeis, as a university, recognizes diversity in academia as a linchpin for intellectual growth and stimulation, but that recognition does not always translate into a climate that is safe for students of color. There exists an unwillingness to challenge the prevalence of subtle racism on campus.
Diversity is a value that shows respect for the differences and similarities of age, sex, culture, ethnicity, beliefs and much more. Having a diverse organization, helps notice the value in other people and also how to teach respect to people that might not know how. The world is filled with different cultures and people that might believe in different things as you, but that doesn’t mean you need to treat them any different. It is imperative for people to grasp diversity because it’ll help people how to engage with others in a respectful yet a hospitable way.
Each student in your classroom is eager to learn but it can make it difficult if a student doesn’t feel wanted and feels like an outsider because of their culture. The student’s culture should be built into the curriculum so that the student is able to make meaning from it. The teacher needs to create a classroom environment that encourages students to use interpersonal relationships with each other. The classroom environment should be culturally sensitive so all students feel welcomed.
Companies should have mandatory diversity training for all employees because of cultural differences in business. Diversity training addresses issues such as cultural differences can improve customer service, build cooperative relationships, and build respect. Diversity is important and matters because people from different countries and backgrounds have different ideas and beliefs and it allows people to understand and respect those differences. It can also eliminate stereotypes and foster healthy, unique, and meaningful relationships at work, school and in society.

As discussed throughout this paper we build our classroom management plans based on our past experiences, our knowledge, our professional learning and our very own personal reflection. The importance of our beliefs, values and our philosophy play a major role in our planning. I, personally have a strong desire to support students who are often labelled ‘troubled’ and ‘the naughty child’, I believe there are reasons behind why students misbehave and strive to do my best as an educator to engage students through positive reinforcements as discussed and continue to put in place preventive practices. Building our own positive learning framework is key to a successful classroom. Could a teacher of a different race teach a child? Yes, they could and have many times. However, a teacher from the same race could be more effective to certain students. I think all schools should allow for racial diversity when it comes to teachers. Teachers of the same race have a better understanding so to speak of how that child is feeling or what they may be going through. The same could be said about male teachers with male students. They have different bonds with a male teacher than with a female teacher. However, female teachers still can effectively teach males. Unfortunately, it may be hard for homosexuals to teach fundamental Christians simply due to most of them due to their ignorance in having such a hatred towards homosexuals.
A lot of children have two main educators in their life; their parents and their teachers. Parents are their first educators, the majority of what a child learns in the first few years of their life is taught by their parents. It is only when the child starts to attend an early years setting that they start to learn from another educator. Both parents and teachers continue being a major influence on their children's learning all throughout school and for the rest of their lives. The parents and the child's school both have important roles to play in the child's education and should therefore work together as a team. Parents can get involved in many different ways such as; getting involved with the school itself by helping in the classroom or supervising lunch and break times, or for those parents who work in the day and cannot find the time to help at the school they can get involved by; reading to their child at home, assisting with homework and other learning activities, teaching them songs or nursery rhymes and letting them help with everyday tasks like cooking, baking and chores. This can be categorised as: Involvement of parents in the school life or involvement of parents in supporting the individual child at home.
