Christian Listening To Secular Music

Does God have clear guidelines for music that we can listen to? Music, it’s a part of our everyday lives, whether were in a store or at home with the radio on. Many Christians argue the point that no secular music is good, but the Bible doesn’t specifically mention secular music, however there are many rules and guidelines that we can apply to Christians listening to secular music. 1 Corinthians 10:29 says “I am referring to the other person’s conscience, not yours. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience?” This plainly says that Christians should not use what they do not agree with to judge what another Christian does agree with. Some Christians cannot listen to a certain Christian genre because it may take their thoughts

Jeff Laird says, "A person's spiritual state is ultimately between them and God. When the activity isn't expressly sinful, and it doesn't seem to interfere with their Christian walk, then it's inappropriate to condemn a fellow believer for expressing their Christian liberty." 1 Corinthians 10:23 say, “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive.” God gives everyone free will, He is a gentleman and respectful of everyone’s choices. Although he may not be pleased with what people choose, since time began, He gives His guidelines and instructions and He also gives us choices, whether we choose to follow Him or not. Sometimes a Christians choice on secular music does not affect their walk with God because the content is encouraging, yet may cause another Christian to stumble in their relationship with God. Romans 14:12-13 “So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Therefore, let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister.” To another Christian, certain choices may cause their faith to sway or dissipate, therefore no one’s choices

Therefore, we should be diligent about what type of music we listen to.” A Christians choice in lyrics and songs are what can make it alright or a sin. Ephesians 5:3-4 “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.” Since music can affect a person is such a powerful way, a Christian should watch what they listen to so that when it shows in what they do, it would be pleasing to
