The article in its main concept is a very philosophical and could be relevant to the different spheres of our lifes. It explicates the Servant Leadership philosophy and its appliance for the Conductor as a Leader. The article outlines some characteristics of the great leader and the way on how to become a great leader/Conductor.

Most of the conductors I know possess great temperament and project confidence and leadership quality such dominant presence.
But this is not the most important characteristic of the great conductor. Ramona Wis in her book emphasises the importance of music – making as the valuable feature in evaluating the conductor`s qualities.

The significance of the leader is about making the difference in growth of the ensemble. The good conductor in contrast to conductor-manager will not only aim for the putting the presentable concert program ready in a most efficient way. She/he will be aimed on growth and development of the organisation as a whole and its individuals.

During my professional development I was mostly taught manager skills, specifically obtaining knowledge how to arrange musical experiences. However standing in the front of the ensemble requires you to be a little bit more than that. To be a conductor is not only defining the tasks, it is also a lot about the human factor. I am confident that the understanding manager and leader skills and blending them will help me to become a better conductor.
