Character is the sum of what makes the attributes of a leader. It is who you are; how you act and the choices you will decide to make in life. This will determine the direction that you head in life.. Although integrity is part of character it is considered part of the foundation. For this paper I have decided to cover integrity and do some examination of how it affects Character. This paper will introduce the definitions of Character and integrity. Then I will examine how Christ modeled these leadership defining qualities, How we can make them applicable to ourselves. Character is important, in a study the US army has over twenty-three character traits that define what a leader is. Character as defined By the Merriam-Webster dictionary is this, “the way someone thinks, feels, and behaves : someone's personality.” In leadership it is paramount that a leader has the introspective and the wisdom to understand what is happening with themselves. Having A strong Character in Leadership is important because those around us will look at us and see what morals and values we hold and do. We can have standards and say the type of character we value but ultimately how we conduct ourselves is the foundation on which we stand. There is no other way. People around us will see us and how we behave, think, and feel, and this will determine rather or not the goal you have set out to accomplish or the goal the organization envisions you work at will be accomplished. This is where having strong integrity comes to play it is a trait that supports your character, corrupt integrity, corrupt character. I desire to be a leader of people and to set people free from addictions as I have. Therefore I must scorn the nature I dismiss and cover with whispers of self-exaltation. I must drag the inner side of my life out to the forges and let the hammer of the Holy spirit shape me into the being God created me to be. Then I will cultivate the calling on my life and everything I need to accomplish and do in this life for the glory of God and His kingdom which is coming soon and may I be ready for such a time as then and now.
John Maxwell once said, “People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision.” A leader must have a solid foundation as a human being before he can try to pursue the public about his visions. He will be examined from every angle about his leadership traits, style, characteristic, and so forth. All of these areas of leadership comes together in what we know as integrity. Integrity is doing what is right morally; it requires honesty, making the “right” decisions for the community, taking the blame, and being selfless. In Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and Machiavelli’s The Prince, there are various examples as to what is the difference between a good and a bad leader, including initiative, accountability, generosity, and the leader’s values.
According to Aristotle, integrity can be defined as the “particular quality men acquire by constantly acting in a particular way”. It is the sense of honesty and rectitude, towards our moral and ethical principles. We’ve discussed at length how compromising integrity can damage our reputation, how people decide to act against integrity for personal benefits, and ultimately cause irreparable damage among followers. So is it really worth compromising integrity for a big paycheck? Is losing reputation worth the money? Throughout the essay, numerous examples of compromised integrity will be discussed focusing on the Aristotelian view of Leadership. The philosopher’s Seven Virtues will ultimately allow us to understand and reach to a conclusion regarding such doubts.

Furthermore, acting with integrity means ethically and morally sound behavior, doing the right thing, being true to your values, being accountable, and consistent. Sarah led with values that created a leadership style, which was open, honest communication, and trust. She saw the need to improve her failing work unit that lacked motivation. With that in mind, she took the time to get to know each employee and encouraged a balance life and work environment. Donald Menzel states that building an organization with integrity requires leading with integrity. One should be able to perform a duty without fear and without favors. Integrity, as Menzel explains, is defined by sound moral character, being respectful, and wholesome. Menzel describes not only what guides integrity, but how to build an organization with integrity over the course of chapter 3 and 4. Menzel begins by defining integrity, how to show integrity, and what integrity looks like among employees, organizations, and professionals. He then discusses the 8 principles of ethical conduct and how managers must act in this manner to demonstrate and lead by example. After defining these terms, Menzel discusses different types of leadership and how to build on each type. Menzel continues, in chapter 4, to discuss tools that organizations can use to in order to build and maintain organizations that display integrity. As Menzel moves into chapter 5, he describes management across different cities and counties and discusses ethical issues that have presented and how each was managed. Menzel continues to use life experiences in these chapters to help demonstrate not only what can happen, but what can happen if the wrong choice is made.
Character and wisdom are pillars in resilient leaders. These pillars do not come easily and are the culmination of several other factors. Those factors are what make up the bulk of the dialogue by Robert Dees (2013) in chapters 3 and 4 of his book Resilient Leaders. Building off of his discussion of resilient leadership being selfless service over time from a basis of character and competence, he points out exactly what is needed to form that necessary character and competence (Dees, 2013).
Being a good leader comes with having “heroic” traits. While there are some traits that hinder one’s performance, there are some such as being courageous, having perseverance, being patient, and having wisdom. One can’t be a leader without having any of these traits. Other qualities a leader has are staying with their teammates through everything, having mental and physical strength, and being able to quickly adapt to new situations for their own and their friend’s safety. A good leader will do everything they can to help everyone, even if it means putting themselves in a bad situation.
For the many years that humans have roamed in this world, we have always been very concerned about what other people will think about our reasoning behind our decisions. In the academic community, students of integrity will notice academic standards severely, exchange ideas freely and improve the social acknowledgment of the value of their institutions. In personal conditions, integrity leads individuals to understand who they really are, thus they can be honest to their benefits and ideal life. In the workplace, truth enhances personal commitment to the code of ethics set forth by the profession. Additionally, integrity begins mutual beneficial personal relationships in a community, helps people develop a sense of reliability and responsibility, and fosters their professional competencies. In a word, the more people have integrity in a community, the more efficiency and efficiency we can have, and the more happiness and trust we can enjoy.

Integrity is the quality of being honest. When you are honest about something or a certain situation you are considered a person of integrity. Also when you have integrity you have strong moral principles. When you have strong moral principles you know what is right and what is wrong. “Having integrity means doing the right thing in a reliable way. It's a personality trait that we admire, since it means a person has a moral compass that doesn't waver. It literally means having "wholeness" of character, just as an integer is a "whole number" with no fractions.” Furthermore, having integrity is a quality that many strive to have because it often means that you are a good person.
In my view most important character of a good leader is that they must be compassionate. Having a personality of caring about people is important. You can?t be a good leader unless you generally like people. That is how you bring out the best in them. No matter what credential they have and how much experience they have in administration but without being compassionate they can't ever become a responsible and successful leader. For example Hitler is known for his cruelty and he had no feelings for his own race. He failed to understand the feelings of Jews and thus persecuted them. He also failed to know the fact that the strength of his country lies in them, while opposite is Mahatma Gandhi, a major political and spiritual leader of India, followed nonviolent actions, avoiding any bloodshed in the country during their struggle for Independence. Because of his compassionate nature many leaders in today's world has looked him upon. So leader must be compassionate first without being influence by any ulterior motive.
The most important quality that differentiates a leader from other people is the ability to think strategically. Vision is the most important aspect that drives a leader’s strategy. It is all about where you want to be. Other qualities include Decision making, problem solving, time management, self-motivation, emotional intelligence and many more. Once we know the type of leadership, it is easy to find what leadership skills we have and which we need to develop which is explained in the book “Leadership: Theory, application, skill development (5th ed.) by Lussier and Achua.” Also, Keirsey Style Sorter personality type helps to knowing our temperament type, and work on our weakness and to emerge out as a good leader.
