When I was reading chapters 1-3 I was able to find five concepts that stood out to me and had a relation to storytelling. The first one was social media. Social media is an outlet that impacts a lot people and allows for groups to interact with each other. This concept has an impact on my daily life because social media is something that I use very often to stay connected with people I know and it allows me to see things that are going on in their lives. This relates to storytelling because the posts that people will put are some form of a story, especially if it is a status on Facebook or a tweet on Twitter. These stories that are posted are what helps people stay connected and to know what is going on in others’ lives.
Another concept that

stood out to me was multimedia because I knew that this concept would have a close relationship to storytelling, since that is what the class is called. I also have heard about multimedia throughout the past year. Media means “ways of transmission” so by using multimedia it is all the different technologies that we used to share given information. This is related to storytelling because we use all of the different recording devices to help our stories last longer. For example, we use videotapes/cameras to record life events and then when we show them to others, we are sharing a story with them. The concept of multimedia allows for us to share different stories, in a much simpler way. Another concept that stood out to me was the term broadcasting.
It is a form of communication that communicates certain stories to a given audience. Broadcasters have specific demographics that they are trying to relate to. The concept of broadcasting interested me because I want to be some form of a broadcaster when I graduate. The book made more reference to broadcasters and the relationship they have with storytelling. I think that in relation to storytelling, it coexists because without a story then we would be broadcasting absolutely nothing. In today’s society we also use multimedia all of the time so I think these two are very important and they exist because of each other. Broadcasting allows us to tell the stories of other people and spread news and information that people want to know about or are interested in knowing …show more content…
about. When I was reading the third chapter it started with the concept of a road map.
When you first hear this you might think of a car and getting from place to place and a road map when use in storytelling is something that gets you from place to place but in a different way. The idea of this concept is that you must start with an idea and then you will be intentional to have success to accomplish that idea. To go along with this concept, it talked about storyboards and I think these two are closely related, if not the same, and they help us to tell the best story, because we have it all planned out. This stood out to me because I have had to use the concept to help better my stories that I have had to tell in previous production classes and it allows for me to gain a better understanding. I think with storytelling, a roadmap and storyboard help us to create a plan of what we want and it allows us to tell the story the intended way or for us to find ways to tell the story in a different/more effective
way. Creativity is another term that I was interested in because I think it is something that every person has within them they just have to pull it out of them. Sometimes I think I am not a creative person, however, I know that I am, but sometimes I need an extra push to get that creativeness out of me. The definition is that it “involves the production of novel, useful products,” and this to me shows the connection to storytelling. I think in order to tell a good story you need to be creative in the ways that you are coming across to tell that given story. Storytelling is a form of communication where you have to know what the audience is interested in and with creativity, it pushes you to create something that could be out of the norm for you but the audience will love it. All of these five concepts stood out to me and I think that they all have a connection to storytelling. They have helped me to understand the concept better and I some things that I need to do to become a better storyteller.
A narrative is specified to amuse, to attract, and grasp a reader’s attention. The types of narratives are fictitious, real or unification or both. However, they may consist of folk tale stories, mysteries, science fiction; romances, horror stories, adventure stories, fables, myths and legends, historical narratives, ballads, slice of life, and personal experience (“Narrative,” 2008). Therefore, narrative text has five shared elements. These are setting, characters, plot, theme, and vocabulary (“Narrative and Informational Text,” 2008). Narrative literature is originally written to communicate a story. Therefore, narrative literature that is written in an excellent way will have conflicts and can discuss shared aspects of human occurrence.
Mueller expresses how stories allow children to achieve the impossible, such as flying when they are incapable and discovering the unknown. Stories give a life to the people who are unable to live, and that is one of the reasons why imagination is so essential to our world. The sharing of tales bring genuine joy to people without the need of materialistic items; it gives people the chance to relate to the author on a common ground. The sense of shared joy and mutual connection brings people closer together and expands on relationships. People begin to feel as if they are apart of an imagined community, which is a community in which people perceive themselves to be apart of, through common interests or relations from media or works of literature. Communities such as these allow people to connect with each other, despite never crossing paths. It allows the birth and the strengthening of relationships, for when people begin to converse with others, the first thing they do is find common experiences or interests that they share. In addition, a quote from Mueller, herself, adds to why we tell stories: “Because the story of our life becomes our life. Because each of us tell the same story but tell it differently, and none of us tells it the same way twice.” Tales are devised with the incorporation of the narrator’s imagination; it is a way to
Every corporation has a marketing plan to know in what direction they are facing in the future. As we know since before, the four P’s of marketing is the key to success for a business. As it is right now, Burry Bookstore misses one of the 4 P’s, which is the promotion.
...verything around us is made by our actions. Positive or negative they cause an effect that will ultimately lead to a different story base on how we interpret life. Narrative elements are used as a bridge by the directors in their film to create any master plot that is currently known. Any modification at any narrative element used by the director at important moments inside the story can help you portray a different master plot. This used of narrative elements can be best described as an ever changing process that takes place inside an individual’s head. Depending on the individual that may be exposed to those narrative elements can create different meanings. This new interpretation can be different for everyone. We have to be aware that one change in the surface scenery can lead to many ideal outcomes in our minds and that is the main power the audience has.
In 2011 allegation were floating around on the internet that Taco Bell’s taco meat were more fillers than meat. On January 25, 2011, the allegations turned into a crisis when a disgruntled customer filed a lawsuit against Taco Bell.
A “narrative” is defined as being a “written or spoken account of connected events” (“Narrative”). Narratives come in various forms. For instance, in English class many of the short stories we read are narratives. However, movies, television shows and songs, are also examples of narratives. Even our lives are considered our own personal narratives in which we are the writer, the main character and often times the reader. The writings of our narratives help us make sense of some of the traumatic events we face throughout our lives (Gobodo-Madikizela and van der Merwe 2). In some cases, we make sense of these events by reading or listening to other people’s narrative.
Storytelling has been mankind’s most broad and universal occupation since its conception and has come a long way, developing new techniques and expanding in multiple domains. It can be considered an ancient form of art because it is crucial for human expression. Every culture has made a contribution to the narration of stories in various fields, such as, entertainment, literature, education, the media and so forth, with the purpose of conveying an important message, or purely to entertain.
Social Media has become a part of life for most people. Researchers say that the average American checks their phone 46 times a day. It has been reported that those between the ages of 18-24 check their phones 74 times a day. (Eadicicco, 2015) As modern-day people we have become accustomed to the near-constant display of information and interactions. Which is what social media is, interaction. Whether its between people or companies it has become a constant in our lives. Phones are constantly chirping with notifications from emails, websites, apps, and messages. While this can be seen as good or bad, for the purpose of interactions between customer and consumer this is a good thing. Radio and Television stations now have the opportunity to
Storytelling is an art that has advanced and changed throughout the history of civilization. From Dante Alighieri’s; The Divine Comedy and The Epic of Gilgamesh; to modern day storytelling, such as cinematography, comics and more. Human kind has relied on storytelling in order to explain the unexplainable. These stories brought people and civilizations together. Religions took use of this, and allowed civilizations to control their citizens to some extent. Storytelling, has affected much of human history, however over the years storytelling itself has gone through much iteration and change.
A common element shown in most stories is the input of characters. Characters are one of the most important components. They often lead the stories to many components of other literary elements. For example, they include conflict, plot, and resolution. Characters are commonly the main subjects and backbone of stories. They can serve as the protagonist and antagonist of stories, which leads to the pivotal points of stories. Stories with multiple characters do create more intense and in depth plots. It can create drama and intense emotions that can capture the audience. Characters also help the audience connect and create a better understanding. If characters within a story capture the audience it often creates a willingness to continu...
Growing up in this generation, I have an understanding of what it is like to be raised in a digital world. As social media was introduced in the early 2000s, it became a simple and efficient way of connecting people all across the globe in lightning speed. Social media became a revolutionary outlet for people to express their thoughts and feelings. Sharing our moments and everyday experience with people came to be very easy to learn and quite addicting. Growing communities such Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, made it possible for one to form an identity online. In her essay, “The Way We Live Now: I Tweet, Therefore I Am”, Peggy Orenstein, an author of several best-selling books, discussed the ways in which posting content about ourselves
In this day and age we have become a surveillance society where individuals and groups record, store and analyse information as we got about our daily lives (Surveillance Studies Network, n.a). From its original use the camera phone has become extremely important and plays a key role in today’s surveillance society, through social media platform .These platforms have lead us to survey not only ourselves but others too, with the convergence of the camera phone and social media we can actively record and analyse memories for future reflection and publish media content, although the camera phone serves a great purpose, there has been countless debates over the invasion of privacy.
Mass media and social media are technology all around us. They are ways of a mass communication that reach a limitless amount of people. Media has changed the way the world thinks. Mass media refers to TV, magazines, newspapers, pictures and Radio. Social media refers to any kind of internet logging like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google, amongst others. Mass and social media surround us and tell us what we should be or should do. This can lead to constructive behaviors or it can lead to the destruction of lives caused by how the media relays these messages. Ultimately leaving the diversity of people falling victim to mass and social media. Not one person can make that sole decision. Consequently, changing how people think. Consequentially, changing the way the public looks at presidential candidates.
This article went in detail about an advertisement by Twitter that was shown during the Oscars on March 4, 2018. The commercial was made to address the current issues of women's rights and gender equality. This is one of the first commercials that Twitter has ever shown during the Oscars and they used the campaign #HereWeAre. The goal of this commercial was to spread awareness to the lack of women being promoted in the tech-industry. Twitter wanted to show that there are many strong, intelligent, and important women that go unrecognized for their talents. Though this advertisement went over well, some people had negative remarks to make regarding the commercial. Many people believed it was too similar to the online campaign that Twitter released over the summer, known as #SheInspiresMe. This campaign featured many iconic women and promoted female leadership in predominantly male businesses. Whereas, the Oscar version promoted many women in the film
