Middle school is very difficult and most of you are probably thinking How am I supposed to survive through the three years known as middle school. In middle school you are given more homework so you need to learn how to manage your time and how to prioritize. Another challenge in middle school is studying for test and quizzes. Last but not least is producing quality work you can’t get away with not doing good work anymore you might have been able to in elementary but not in middle school. If you learn to do all of these things middle school won’t be as hard as it seems.
Making the transition from middle school to high school is a huge stepping stone in a teenager’s life. High school represents both the ending of a childhood and the beginning of adulthood. It’s a rite of passage and often many teens have the wrong impression when beginning this passage. Most began high school with learning the last thing on their mind. They come in looking for a story like adventure and have a false sense of reality created through fabricated movie plots acted out by fictional characters. In all actuality high school is nothing like you see in movies, television shows, or what you read about in magazines.

Looking back through my middle school and high school years, I see that I have matured a great amount. I see my current self as someone that treats others with respect, and who does not blurt out anything that comes to mind. I sadly cannot say that was always the case. Throughout high school, everyone changes at least a minimal amount, and sometimes you don’t even notice the changes. Maturity is something that happens naturally for most, and can happen in the matter of a summer break.
Young students today that are going through the middle school system are between the ages of 10 to 15 years old. They are going through a crucial stage of life in which many alterations occur such as emotional, physical, and mental changes. All of these changes that they must go through are essential to develop into healthy, fully functional, and self-actualized people. As a future educator, I need to see that middle school students are unique; they are too old to be considered children and too young to be considered adolescents. Middle level professionals have certain roles and responsibilities as it relates to the development of young adolescents. We must present ourselves as role models for the students and have the responsibility to make sure that as they progress through middle school they have enriched, meaningful learning experiences through challenging, exploratory, integrative, and relevant curriculum. As a future educator, I need to understand and recognize these changes, strengths, weaknesses, and diversities and be able to plan accordingly and appropriately for them in the classroom. I have developed my own philosophy for teaching at the middle level, based on this evidence and my understanding about the unique characteristics of middle level adolescents that will help mold me into a great middle school educator!
The novel Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life, by James Patterson follows a troublemaker named Rafe Kachadorian. When he gets to school although for him it’s more like prison and so far he’s not very fond of his new school. Rafe only has one friend, Leo but his full name is Leonardo the Silent. The only person Leo speaks to is Rafe because Leo is imjainary. Rafe’s first day of school is a difficult day a bully named Miller who chose for his victim of the year. However, it’s there was some good when he found a cute a girl who's name is Jeanne.
Since I'm coming to an end in my middle school years in a few months, I feel obligated to make a guide to help you youngsters transition to middle school, and even help people who are already in middle school, struggling! Hopefully these tips will help you in your three years of Hell on Earth.
I make this statement based off of a rather small sample size: myself (my 8th grade science teacher would scold me for this). Nonetheless, middle school was truly difficult. I don't say this because of rigorous courses, or frustratingly strict bathroom rules, but rather because I spoke close to no English for a large part of it.

After almost one-hundred and eight days, the 2015-2016 school year is approaching an end. So far, I have concluded that middle school is basically like building a house. Before middle school has started, in fifth grade, the house only has the boards and the main skeleton of the whole structure. All of the basics are learned in elementary school: learning how to read, learning basic grammar, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction, fractions, the founding of America, how plants create their food, etc., but by the time students reach sixth grade, new knowledge builds onto what is already known. Middle childhood, is a very exciting time for young children from the ages of seven to twelve years old. It’s known as the school years and new social and cognitive traits are being learned at home and at school. Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory found this to be the latentcy period in which no much happens. He described this because children at this age sexual and aggressive urges are repressed ("Stages of Growth Development," 1898-1987). This paper will also discuss the changes from middle childhood to adolescence, the affects of parents and peers and the affects they have on developing children.
Young adolescents can be described as ages 10-15 years old, but it is also considered that adolescence continues until the age of 25. During this time in an adolescent’s life there are many internal and external factors that affect the development of each individual. The influence that an adolescent’s peers, parents, and community have on them can be conflicting and therefore cause stress. Trying to meet the expectations of others during a time where one is going through so many forms of physical, psychological, and cognitive development can be trying for a middle school aged student. They are expected to focus on their education and the expectation of other outside influences while their bodies are growing and developing into an adult body. When development happens differently for these kids it can affect their psychological development if they focus too much on how fast, or slow they are developing in comparison to their peers. Some adolescents may let their peers influence their behaviors creating a problem with how they interact with others, or how they view themselves as a person. The middle school is a place where students are guided through these developmental experiences with the help of their peers, teachers, administrators, parents and community.
When they go to middle school, they aren’t with just one teacher all day anymore like in elementary school. In middle school, most adolescents have about six different teachers. The content areas are more concentrated with each period/block covering a different subject (language arts, social studies, math, science, physical education/health, and an elective). Middle schoolers have to learn how to transition between classes for the first time in a new place. The schools tend to be larger with more students than an elementary school. They have more freedom, but also more rules than elementary school, such as not being tardy. These cognitive changes that adolescents have no choice but to go through can affect them emotionally, socially, and physically in many ways. Emotionally most adolescents feel overwhelmed especially their first year in middle school. They have way more homework and projects to do in middle school so this may be more stressful for them (emotional). They start getting less sleep devoting more time to homework and waking up earlier for school (physical). Adolescents also have to adjust to being separated from childhood friends because in middle school they begin to separate students based on test scores
Have you ever injured yourself when trying to have fun? Well, one cold, frosty, August family night where you would have to wear layers of clothing just not to get frostbite. My family and I had a fun time going on the newest rides and had a good time trying the funnel cakes for our very first time. Like most people, my family and I all wore nice warm layers of clothing barring my big brother Camren. Camren is in Middle School at this time and of course in their “Middle School” brain it is cool to wear shorts and a short sleeve shirt when it is sixty degrees outside. The thing about wanting to look cool is that it might not always feel good. So while my family and I was feeling warm and having a good time not focusing on the sixty-degree weather. My brother couldn’t do anything that meant that he had to sit for a long time because he was not trying to get frostbite which is funny to me.
