The name of my senior service site is Sertoma Centre, Inc. Sertoma location is 4100 W 127th St, Alsip. IL 60803. There I work with individuals with developmental, physical, and emotional disabilities. Also people suffering from mental disabilities. The majority of consumers I work with have autism or cerebral palsy. Some of the special needs of consumers suffering from autism are needing help expressing their emotions, communicating, learning, completing task, and help with their assignments. Cerebral palsy special needs include needing help moving from place to place, communicating, writing, and possibly needing assistive speaking devices. Autism is a developmental disorder which impairs one’s ability to communicate and interact. Currently there is not a medical test that diagnosis autism. Autism is diagnosed by specially trained psychologist and physicians that administers specific behavioral evaluations. But typical diagnostics a violation involves arm multidisciplinary team of doctors such as a pediatrician psychologist speech and language pathologist and an occupational therapist and sometimes genetics testing is recommended. Normally autism diagnosed as a child but can also be diagnosed later in life sometimes even as late as adulthood. Those with milder symptoms, a diagnosis may not be possible until the brain is fully developed around the age of three or five. Confirming Cerebral Palsy can involve many steps. The first is monitoring factors such as: the child reaching development milestones and height/weight standards, reflexes, focus, and posture.
