I believe the use of cellphones while driving should be prohibited, although, there could be instances when you need it. In an instance of a wreck, or other emergencies, you may need to call for help. Using a phone while driving can be highly distracting and could very likely cause a wreck. There are more instances where a cell phone would be more hazardous than helpful while driving. All of this to say, I believe the use of cellphones while driving should be banned, with the exception of an emergency.
There are many things to consider when deciding if cell phone usage should be banned while driving. One of the most important aspects in the decision process is the dangers it can cause toward other drivers. When a person is texting and driving, they are taking their hands off the wheel and their attention off of the road. By the driver taking their hands off the wheel, this causes their reaction time to become lower, simply because it will take them longer to get their hands back on the wheel and make the movement necessary. Also, taking their attention off of the road, can cause the driver to underestimate the distance between them and the car in front of them, as well as not seeing things in their way. Being distracted by your phone can cause a variety of things to happen. One danger caused to the driver by being on their phone is the possibility of not seeing a stop sign/light, causing the risk of getting pulled over to increase. A wreck caused by the driver is not only harmful to the other drivers, but also the driver himself. There are many things that could go wrong by wrecking your car, not only the risk of injury and damages made to your car, but also your insurance will go up simply because you were the source of the wreck.
