The jigsaw teaching method is an important and influential style of teaching that was created to avoid any discriminations in the classroom setting. It was developed in the early 1970s by a man named Eliot Aronson, with the help of his students from the University of Texas, as well as the University of California. The jigsaw classroom is a cooperative learning technique originally created to reduce racial conflict among school children, but it has evolved to eliminate any form of competition in the classroom. It has been shown to promote better learning, improve student motivation, and increase enjoyment in the learning experience as a whole. These components include a highly structured atmosphere, rather than a lenient atmosphere. In addition, interdependence is definitely a necessity because that helps to make every student valuable to the lesson. The interdependence eliminates the competition in the classroom because there is no need for the students to out-perform each other since they need each other to learn the whole lesson of the day, which is vital especially in the physical education classrooms where competition is almost always present. When the jigsaw classroom is first introduced by the teacher, the highly structured component is important for the students to understand, but over time the teacher will eventually be able to focus on letting the students become the teachers making them no longer the sole resource of knowledge. The poem “Students” by Tom Wayman, shows four different learning styles: The Vaccination Theory of Education, The Dipstick Theory of Education, The Easy Listener Theory of Learning, and The Kung Fu Theory of Education. Wayman is a teacher that has noticed that every person devolves into one of these different learning styles. The four different theory of education are used every day even if we do not know.
School is a perfect example of structure. Almost every school consist of the same thing which is desks and a board to demonstrate the lesson. All the desk are facing one way so that the children have a more likely chance to pay attention to the instructor and Proper room arrangement provides predictability in students, which has a calming effect I presume. It is about management, motivation, and instruction. Teachers need to know how to design their classroom so that the children are going to get the most efficient learning environment for them. For example, students who are visual learners or have attention problems, should sit near the front. Teachers must be experts in motivation. Students will be open to learning and want to learn if they are excited, happy, feel safe, and have confidence. Teachers must be instructional experts. What I learned during the observation is that have a good layout and a good environment setting children are more willing learn and play with the children around them. They need to feel that they are apart of the classroom. That is part of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need. You environment the classroom need to make children feel safe because if they don’t feel safe they are always going to be on high alert and not pay attached to what going on they are also not going to play or do anything in the classroom. Having the right environment makes it easy for children to explore and learn everything they need have those center or station is not just their for children to have fun and play that because while they are playing and have fun they are learning.
Effective practices such as INCLUDE, allows teachers to accommodate more diversity in their classrooms. When teachers have the mindset of accommodating their classrooms, they reduce the need for making more individualized adaptations, unless necessary for particular students. The most important aspects to maintaining an orderly and effective classroom environment are organization, grouping, instructional materials, and strategies to promote successful students.
In a classroom, the class is a single unit, and teachers teach to the class’s needs, rather than to each individual students’ needs. I enjoy being able to work individually with students in order to cater my teaching toward each one’s specific needs so that I can instill them with passion for each subject.
Being surrounded always by people and tutors is a great benefit for kids, as it gives a hint and speeds up development, according to the recent researches and the theory of Vygotsky. His theory is actively applied in reciprocal teaching, which is used to improve student 's abilities to learn from text – theater performance is a great example as well. This method includes children in learning and practicing such skills as clarifying, questioning, predicting and summarizing. The role of the teaches is getting weaker and weaker through time. The other method is called scaffolding when a tutor helps to organize a question and make a system out of it, so the kid or a student can work on it easier and get a positive result. Teamwork plays a great role in the theory of Vygotsky, as it was in the pretend games as well. According to the scientist it would be more effective to have students of different abilities in one class, so the more advanced could help those who need help. During the performance rehearsals we experienced the same routine, the only difference was that we were helped by the teacher himself.
My personal philosophy of classroom management focuses on creating an environment where children feel safe and where they feel like they belong. I will create this environment for my fourth grade class through making my expectations of the students clear while developing an engaging lesson plan and personable interactions with my students. I developed my philosophy from studying different theorists and based my philosophy on the theories of Glasser and Kounin. Glasser believed that the teacher’s roll in the classroom is that of a leader rather than a boss. He believed that students should be given power in the classroom and that the teacher should share it with the students. I will use his ‘7 caring habits’ specifically supporting and respecting to help my classroom feel safe and welcoming to my students. Meeting the individual needs of my students will be the focus of my classroom management routine. I will meet individual needs by promoting self management and self efficacy in my students by creating an environment that that has predictable and consistent daily routines while focusing on my student’s successes (Shindler, 2010). Having a predictable routine will encourage a success oriented environment and will reduce anxiety and help towards creating positive self efficacy in each of my students (Shindler, 2010). In Glasser’s Choice Theory he talks about focusing on the present and not bringing up the past (Glasser, 2010). I model some of Vygotsky's theories in this lesson plan. When practicing skills or playing games, I have my students work together in either pairs or groups. This promotes social interaction and allows for the students to learn from each other in addition to learning from teacher feedback. In this lesson, I allow the students to practice the 5 fitness components in groups. In this lesson I have the students set fitness goals on the first day of the unit. The students are setting goals and participating in activities that extend what they are learning in class outside of the classroom. This is meant to bring meaning to the topic and is meant to give the students a chance to participate in authentic learning which Vygotsky says will enhance learning.
According to social cognitive theory, people and their environments mutually influence each other (Ormrod, 2011). People learn from the environment they are in, people they interact with, and behaviors they watch. People can learn by observing others and as they become older they can set their goals based on the accomplishments and the results of that learning. In order to be an effective teacher there needs to be an understanding that we all learn differently, this means that no single teaching strategy is effective for all students/learners all the time. This makes teaching a complex process because you need to understand and meet the requirements of all of your learners. Students learn best when they aren’t asked to simply memorise information but when they form their own understandings of what is being taught. When a student has successfully learnt a new idea they are able to then intergrate this information with their previously learnt information and make sense of it. To be an effective teacher you need to work jointly with students to asses where they are at, be able to give feedback on how the student is going and ensure that they are understanding the lesson (Killen, 2013) According to Lovat and Smith (2003) students learning must result in a change in a student’s understanding of the information being taught. In order to show understanding they must be able to share this information with others and want to learn more (Killen, 2013). In order to have a deeper understanding of what is being taught they need to be aware of the relationship that exists between what they knew previously and the new information that is being learned (Killen, 2013).. Students need to be given goals that they can achieve in order to feel a sense of mastery over their own learning, this gives students motivation that they are able to complete tasks and to keep going.

It is clear that Essentialism reminds whoever the source of information which is given to the students is directly from the teacher. A teacher, who is following this philosophy, knows that the information the teacher provides to the students is, “based on knowledge and evidence-based experience” (Elgstrom & Hellstenius, 2011, p. 721-722). Essentialism, according to Elgstrom & Hellstenius (2011) also plays an effective part in teaching when key elements of discipline and hierarchy are in play (p. 721-722). Advantages in essentialism include, school work that is coordinated and prepared by the teacher for the students (Roberson, 2014, p. 345). Disadvantages for essentialism involve how well the teacher and the student process all the information. For the teacher it involves how well the teacher teaches the subjects and for the students; on how well they can score on the test remembering the information. My classroom management starts with a well-organized, clearly labeled classroom layout so that my students can easily access the resources they need for my class. I display visual aids and reminders around the room to support the students and I display their work in specific places around the room to give them a sense of belonging. I create routines and procedures to support the students and enable them to form smooth transitions between activities. There is a certain way they enter and leave the classroom, distribute books and papers, and move their desks and chairs. In my classroom these mundane tasks are completed quickly, competitively, and with enthusiasm. Having routines in place helps students understand exactly what is expected of them and gives them confidence in their actions.
