Utilizing this method of approach Dwight’s can use the corporate code of conduct policy to guide his decisions. It is typical to find guidelines on how business and behavior is conducted within the organization. The policies are designed to lay out the framework and establish clear boundaries on what is and is not acceptable creating a path for unethical behavior and disciplinary actions. Dwight will report the conduct and be impartial to the process, offering only the facts. Dwight will inform Michael how his actions have placed himself in a compromising position and that he needs to work on his alcohol problem. Michael stands to lose his license, here is where Dwight can step in and offer direct support. This method of intervention with Michael is the most complex in regards to seeing a successful outcome and it hides the fact that there was a code of conduct violation. In doing so, he compromises his own moral ethics; however, the chance of Dwight being exposed is limited. If caught, Dwight can fall back on the training relationship and how being a trainee his career would be likely ruined by Michael if he reported him. In addition, many case studies provide evidence where the whistleblower is punished indirectly through limited advancement opportunities or other various forms of retaliation. By choosing to ignore the company policy and accept the reward for his silence, Dwight has sacrificed his personal ethics.

A. Dwight
He is the primary individual in the scenario that has the ethical dilemma on whether he should or should not report Michael.
B. Michael
The perpetrator of the unethical behavior, he has offered Dwight rewards for helping cover up the incident involving the DWI. He is knowledgeable of the new substance abuse policy and repercussions for violations.
C. Jan
Held meeting with Dwight and Michael at a fancy restaurant, which may have resulted in a violation of code of conduct at Scranton Corporation.
