When nothing is going right in life, what do you do? Do you just quit and hope for the best or do you pick yourself up and work even harder to succeed? Iliana Roman, a single mother of three children and an owner of a hair salon, kindles the message that individuals who face adversity can still persevere in life. According to Roman’s memoir “First Job”, it is never too late to turn your life around. At seventeen years, old Roman unexpectedly became pregnant. This event led to Roman’s life changing completely causing her to drop out of high school. She was nearly to the point of no return, she simply could not hold down a proper job, and the only way to support herself and her child is working three to four odd jobs every week. Roman presents her message of persevering in life by incorporating hyperbole, repetition, and pathos.

The three videos that I observed are Case Social Worker, Addictions Therapists, and Child Find Specialist. The video I observed was the Case Social Worker the interview with Sue Dowling (Dowling, S). The video was about a interview was with Sue Dowling, who currently works with the Social Service Department in the Arlington Massachusetts area, and is an ongoing assessment social worker. Dowling noted in the interview that there are three phases in the Department of Social Services. The first phase is an intake or investigations. The second phase is the assessment. The third phase is the on-going assessment. The intake or investigation is an investigation of the complaint. When a social worker gets a complaint or issues they must conduct a 10 day investigation. During the beginning of the 10 days if the child is in an
Tiffany is an associates of the arts major, and was born on a military base in Little Rock, AR but grew up in Beebe Arkansas. One of her favorite hobbies is spending time with her family. She sees spending time with her family as peace time and time to unwind. Another one of her hobbies is participating in a worldwide group that helps people with anxiety and depression. Speaking to Tiffany, she explains that she loves helping people that can’t really find the courage or drive to help themselves. Her hobbies actually shape a lot of her accomplishments also. Tiffany received a flag of honor for saving a classmates life in 2012. This was one of the accomplishments that she still thinks about everyday as she still grows as a person. She also finished all four years of JROTC in high school. Tiffany explained she learned a lot of discipline and self-respect by finishing the program in high school. The last accomplishment tiffany achieved was finishing high school and getting her diploma. She plans one growing and being a better person every day; and getting her diploma and now attending school she feels like she is doing that. Tiffany main goal is to get her degree from National Park and transfer to Henderson. She knows she can accomplish this goal if she stays motivated and keep her eye on the real prize. Another one of Tiffany goals is to keep waking up every day and doing positive things to help other people. She has experienced

This week, I got the chance to interview Maggie McMinn. I learned a lot of new stuff about her that I hadn’t already known. She’s a pretty amazing girl.
In the early 1940’s Marie was born into a small tight knit family living in a small rural Kentucky town. Marie is now in her seventies and has led a very interesting life traveling the country, raising four children, and shaping her chosen profession. Our interview sessions were conducted over a period of time, as Marie is very active and has little “free time” to spare.
Members of the pep squad at her school came over and she showed them the $11,000 dollar painting her parents bought. Vanessa really wanted these girls to like her, so she told them how much her parents spent on the painting. Mrs. Huxtable told Vanessa what it really means to be rich. According to the video, “Vanessa’s Rich”, Clair says, “Rich is when your money works for you, not when you work for the money, and we work hard for the money. But I mean it’s okay, we’re proud of what we have and we’re happy to share it with our children.” She also says to Vanessa, “And Vanessa I hate to be the one to tell you this, but yes you are rich. Not because of things, but because you have a family who loves you.” (YOUTUBE VIDEO CITATION) She really wanted to show Vanessa how there is more to her than what she has materialistically. Vanessa learned from her mother, money doesn’t make you who you are, it’s the values you have within yourself, and your personality which attracts people to you. In this particular scene Vanessa’s friends believes Vanessa displays hegemony. Deanna D. Sellnow explains, “…hegemony is the privileging of a dominated group’s ideology over that of other groups.” (2014, P. 117) From judging how the Huxtables raise their children, Vanessa doesn’t believe she is, “above” anyone else at the school she goes too. The girls who Vanessa goes to school with are the ones who have the issue, not Vanessa. The Huxtables teach their children many valuable lessons, and the show as a whole showcased African-Americans in a different light than how some African-Americans are viewed. Clair Huxtable showed how African-American are not always loud, ghetto, have no sense of home training, or not even modest. Instead she showed how African-American women can be classy, the head of the household, smart, successful, and be well dressed. Clair took the

Before leaving to Japan she and various other coworkers made their mark in the organization proving that they could handle the job.
Finally I asked how, in retrospect, she views her decision to start the Midnight Rooster. She paused thoughtfully before answering, "I never really thought I'd be a business person, but I guess its good to have that sort of mind set; go with the flow. I'm not too concerned with money. Relationships with people and doing what you love are more important to me."
To begin with, I would like to describe my mom’s ambition. She wakes up every morning with the positive attitude, and a smile on her face. She is always searching for ways to improve her persona, and live a happier life. About five years ago my mother, my sister and I moved from Ukraine here to the United States. The first year in the United States was tough for us because we did not know English, however, we all worked hard and today we speak English fairly well. Since we moved from Ukraine, my mom has worked really hard to give my sister and I the lifestyle we have. My mom’s ambition to succeed in life has allowed her to grow into a wonderful person full of kindness and knowledge. Ambition is a great virtue to have, and that is one reason why my mother is my role model. My mother is a hard worker, she never...
