I would like to express my interest for the position of Career Peer in Career Services at the University of West Florida. I found the position through the UWF Jobs site. I was excited to see the position posting as I have been diligent about staying updated on the University’s jobs posting. I believe I am perfect for the position as it aligns with my desire to help others and my positive attitude. Also, I am a really responsible, punctual, and organized person, which are important qualities for a Career Peer to possess. I would like to work in Human Resources because besides what seems to me an interesting job is what I would like to be in the future and this will help to have more experience. I performed volunteer work for more than three
years at a hospital in Manta, Ecuador. I offered directions to different floors, departments, and personnel in the hospital, similar to what I might be doing in this position. I also answered questions of hospital guests related to the purpose of the volunteer project and how to engage appropriately with patients; I feel that this experience would be helpful to me in working as a Career Peer as I understand that Career Peer are frequently asked questions, requiring positive and professional interactions with students and alumni. Organizing daily activities, scheduling volunteer hours related to hospital needs, delegating roles to others, and creating events for volunteer integration and recreation purposes were also a part of my duties. Some of the events acted as opportunities for to establish intragroup relationships (e.g., play development, swimming trips, paint coloring parties etc.), and others were related to holidays and special events (e.g., the Day of the Child, Christmas, etc.). All of the events and activities were well received. Additionally, although my work was sometimes challenging, I received regular compliments related to my performance. According to the job description, the position requires to provide presentations related to career development in classes and groups and also support Career Services major events with what my experience can fit perfect in the position. In addition, this summer, I had the opportunity to serve as an intern in the Human Resources Department at Banco Solidario in Quito, Ecuador. Collecting and organizing documents of the new employees that were starting to work in the bank was one of my job functions. I was able to complete job reference checks for possible candidates for a posted position. Also, I have been able to conduct interviews via phone for people applying to the job as well as people who were leaving the bank all over Ecuador. In addition, I reviewed resumes to find the appropriate candidate for the open job opportunity. Overall, I believe I would be an excellent candidate for the position of Career Peer. I am also sure I would enjoy working with Career Services as I know I would be a helpful member of the team and successful in handling student and alumni questions and other needs. As such, I will follow up with you in two weeks to answer any questions you may have about my application. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me at (850)-206-9003 or by email at ab154@student.uwf.edu. Also, I live in Argo Hall so I am really close if you would like to contact me. Finally, my resume is also enclosed with all the documents if you need more information about myself. Thank you for your time and attention to my letter.
I had the opportunity to take the 16 Careers Cluster Inventory. I found the assessment very easy to take. As well, I found the inventory easy to score. My results of the assessment indicated my top three career areas were: 1. Educational and Training, 2. Health Sciences, and 3 had a three way tie between Human Services, Hospitality, and Law enforcement. I found the assessment to be dead on. Based upon the past personality inventories that I have taken I found the suggested areas very appropriate. One of the appealing aspects of the inventory was the easy of taking it! It seemed to gather accurate information without being overly pathological and test-driven.
This paper will discuss four potential persons I might become. I see myself most strongly becoming a Peer Specialist. The role of a Peer Specialist is very important in helping people suffering from mental illnesses to accept, educate, cope and advocate for themselves to bring down the barriers that have been a stereotypical thorn in their sides’ mainly through a social disease called discrimination. This discrimination is basically society’s lack of understanding the world of the mentally disturbed.
In closing, I would like to restate my interest in the Student Advisor position with the Somewhere Internship and Career Center for the 2001-2002 academic year.
Thank you so much for interest in me as a candidate. I remain truly excited by Stanford, and I hope there is a chance to continue my work in your environment.

I have known from an early age that I’ve wanted to become a doctor. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. However, after working with young children I have found that I love working with them, and have a connection with children. Currently, I am interested in becoming either a neonatologist or a general pediatrician so I can continue to work with young children.

Career counseling over the lifespan has more than an occupational focus, it deals with the person’s entire being with a vision that includes one’s lifespan. Career counseling takes into consideration character development, character skills, life roles, individual life and work history, goals, and obstacles. A career counselor not only assists a client with a career plan, but also with a life plan. This paper focuses on two categories of career counseling. The first focus is the history of career counseling as a field of study with the emphasis on when and why career counseling began (1800s as a study of how the shape of one’s head relates to vocational choice), who and what influenced it (Sizer, Parsons, and Davis), and how it has changed (from an individual/community vocational view to an individual/world lifespan view). The second focus is on the application of career counseling by researching two leaders, John Holland’s and Donald Super’s, contributions to career counseling, their theories and assessments and on the biblical aspects of career counseling and how each theory relates to the Bible.
A theory is a way organizing and systematizing what is known about a phenomenon. It is, in fact, “a rationalized set of assumptions or hypotheses that provides a person with tools that can be utilized to explain the past and predict the future” (Johnson, 2000). Therefore, theories provide direction and when tested and supported, can assist in expanding our knowledge.
The changing workplace - a by-now familiar litany of economic, demographic, organizational, and social changes - has made ambiguity the only certainty in work life. Many adults had little or no career education, guidance, or counseling when they were "in school " and often seek such help now, making job or career changes spurred by their personal stage of development or by the "postmodern" workplace. Although career development is a continuous lifelong process, "media and some scholars continue to dramatize crisis in midlife" (Lea and Leibowitz 1992, p. 8). Crises and transitions can occur at any period, however. Hoyt and Lester (1995) found that the career needs of adults aged 18-25 are particularly not being met. The issues and implications of career counseling for adults in the kaleidoscopic context of today's workplace are the focus of this Digest.
I would like to contribute to the research going on in your University to the best of my capacity and utilize the facilities in a responsible manner. I am confident that I can deliver and live up to my expectations with the best of conduct. Thanking for giving me an opportunity to apply to your prestigious university.
Career management plays important role in career development. Career management is done with involved taking some necessary steps to reach the career plan and commonly more focusing on the ability of the organization able to do for their employee to increase their career development (Werner & DeSimone, 2009). Career plan is usually able to be performed, at least in some apart, through the training program which implemented by the organization. Career management process contained four steps which are self-assessment, reality check, goal setting and action planning (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1).
All the research work, training that I will acquire during this PhD program at UTEP will not only enhance my career opportunities, but will also maximize my potentials. I look forward to being a part of your department and hoping that this brief statement has given you an idea of my abilities and interests. I am very confident that if I get an opportunity to be a part of this eminent university, I am sure that my talents will be put to best use.
The career services professional supports the educational mission of a college by assisting students to develop, evaluate, and pursue career aspirations with the goal of securing employment. Career services professionals accomplish these goals with a range of programs, counseling and services designed to help students make the connection between the academic environment and the workplace.
According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
