A career in nursing has always sounded like an extremely rewarding and beneficial profession. Nurses have the great opportunity to care for patients on a daily basis, nurses are responsible for helping patients maintain a long, healthy life. In this paper, I will discuss how I became interested in nursing, how my values relate to those of a nurse, and my goals pertaining to the nursing program. Several factors contributed to my pursuit of a career nursing, but the main reason I decided on this profession was my family. The medical field has held my interest since a young age, considering my mom has always worked in healthcare, so I was exposed to the field at a very early age. For many years I juggled with the idea of becoming a doctor or a veterinarian, not quite being able to decide which field in healthcare interested me the most, but in recent years I narrowed the interest I developed at a young age down to a profession in nursing. It was only after a discussion with my great-aunt that I decided to pursue nursing. My great-aunt made nursing her profession many years ago, and at family gatherings, she would often tell me fascinating stories about her time spent working in a hospital. …show more content…
I became interested in mental health over the last year. Some individuals who I have very close relationships with are affected by mental illnesses, and being with them during their journey has made me interested in that particular field. While on campus, I have tried to become involved in clubs that support this interest. I am now a member of Lost & Found, which brings awareness to the topics of depression and suicide; I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of this club and helping with bringing awareness to others. A job specializing in the mental health field has been a major goal of mine since deciding to become a nurse, and I hope to accomplish this goal after I graduate from
Since I was in elementary school, a career path in the medical field always caught my eye. I would want to pursue a career as a nurse because I want a job that is inspiring, challenging, and rewarding; I want to be able to make a difference in people’s lives every day. My mother is a registered nurse and just from the way she talks about her patients, I can see how much gratification and fulfillment she feels from her job. From a young age, I have always wanted a job that would leave a lasting impression on others. After some research, volunteering, and years of thought in what career interests me the most in the medical field, I feel certain that nursing is a profession that will fit me well.
To be a nurse means more than being a caregiver; it means being selfless, compassionate and committed to serving patients and their families with top-notch care. Nursing is also a passion and requires a deep desire to care for others both physically and emotionally. My decision to be a nurse stems from this deep desire to care for others. I enjoy helping people and doing what I can to enhance the lives of those around me.I’ve always wanted to be a nurse ever since I was a little girl.Nursing is a lifetime career. It is not just a job. It is a state of being. Nursing is one of the most respected occupations. Nurses have the trust and respect of their clients and others. They are loved and appreciated by all.
Nursing is defined as “as an application of scientific knowledge enhanced by artful practice in a socially responsible manner.” (Gregory 5). Nurses provide leadership as members of interdisciplinary teams, provide client centered care to promote health, prevent disease, and restore and maintain client integrity throughout the life span. (Krannich 71). This makes it one of the most interesting professions, in my opinion.
I have always known that I wanted to help people and make an impact on other’s lives since I was young, but it took some time to realize that nursing was how I wanted to fulfill that passion. My dream to become a nurse came about during my last year and a half of college, which I can also say has been the most significant time period in my life so far. The first few years of college before this turning point reflects me as someone who was confused and in search of a purpose.
The thought of fast paced movement, interaction with people, and being able to help people is what makes nursing sound like and interesting career. Nurses have a lot of responsibility around the hospital. They provide care and make patients feel comfortable. Becoming a nurse has a lot of responsibility to it. The career also needs someone who has good people skills but is also assertive.
It’s been my desire, longing for a nursing career since I was in my primary and secondary school. At the age of 12, I began to look after children and baby-sitting then, from there, I gained the understanding of how to deal with children. Nursing is one of the highly demanding careers that bring new challenges every day and it comes with various rewards and a real sense of job satisfaction. I chose nursing because it is a profession where you never really finish learning. It has been my dream job since my tender age. Seeing nurses visiting my school treating students, immunisation, teaching us about health and sexual health issues, this encouraged me. My goal and desire at that age have been to help people within the Health sector. That is how; I decided to go to college where I am currently doing my Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science), which involves Biology and Chemistry. I chose this pathway because I want to gain the relevant skills and knowledge of my career to be. As someone who wants to become a nurse, I found biology as an important role in the delivery of client car...
My desire to become a nurse comes from my natural ability to thrive in a stressful, demanding, fast-paced environment. Nursing became an interest because of the medical aspect, and it would really make me feel good to know that I had a part in helping people in some way.
I have chosen to start majoring in Nursing. My plan is to become a Registered Nurse, and specialize in Cardio Vascular. I want to I decided on this career because when I was in high school I took Med Pro classes which get you familiar with different kinds of medicine and different kinds of nurses. In this class we also had many guest speakers that came and talked to us about their jobs. I have always wanted to go into the nursing field since I was younger but this class inspired me to help others and get them healthy. Another thing that has inspired me to go into the nursing field is my friend Jessica’s mom. I have also been close to her family and one-day last summer I went to work with her to see what her job was like as a Nurse. She takes
Every child gets asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and I was no exception. I always knew I had a passion for helping people and remember role-playing with my siblings that I was their nurse curing them of a sickness or pain. As a child, I could imagine myself wearing scrubs and having my stethoscope around my neck. The healthcare profession has always fascinated me. I have chosen a nursing career for many reasons, which include: the personal joy I receive in helping others, making a difference in the lives of my patients, and the experience and knowledge I would gain on a daily bases.
I decided to choose nursing as a career seeing that it is a very challenging and powerful profession where we have the opportunity to influence and touch lives through the promotion and maintenance of health and well-being of individuals and our community. Furthermore, nursing is one of the few professions that help you grow on both personal and professional levels and seeing that it is advancing on a daily basis, the wealth of knowledge to be obtained is limitless. It comes with an enormous responsibility and I am more than willing to take on this
I chose nursing because I want to do something that is challenging, fascinating and makes a difference in people’s life. I wanted to become a nurse at a very young age. When I was a senior in high school, my stepbrother was diagnosed with stage four cancer. I was astonished to meet some of the most caring nursing’s, smart and liable people whiles my brother was on hospices. At that point, in my life I had never come a crossed awesome care team like them, from nurses to certified nursing assistance. From then on, I decided that I want to go to school to become a nurse. I started as a certified nursing assistance. I received an associate degree in medical specialist, which was not what I really wanted to do. Therefore, I decided to peruse my dream career.
Since my sophomore year in high school I had researched nonstop on what type of medical career I had wanted. My first interest landed in the nursing field, it had intrigued me with the memorable relationships that were always made between patients and a nurse. In my mind, a nurse was an individual who advocated the needs of the patient, never neglected the patient, instead picked up habits that accommodated every individual patient to make their stay more comfortable and less painful. Besides the empathetic side of nursing, I admired nurses for the
For my intended career of being a nurse, and hopefully pursuing either a Master’s or Doctorate’s later down the road, I want the best for my education. Aside from having the heart, compassion, and integrity needed for the foundation of an outstanding nurse, an outstanding nurse must have the best quality education accessible for him/her. Further, a nursing student must be challenged as this would help them grow as a nurse; I believe that University of North Carolina can provide these challenges to help me prepare for the Navy Nurse Corps. When a nurse has the proper foundation for their career: heart, compassion, integrity, and a quality education, this will further reflect onto the patients and resident depending on him/her. With said, this
My whole college education has been planned since high school partly because I was taking college classes but mainly because I prefer to be organized and have everything done. Every year I worked harder and harder to get to where I am at and it was not easy but I can say that it is not impossible. Whenever I felt down I would think about my parents and how far they have come and I gained strength to pick myself up. For them, me, and students out there trying to accomplish their goals in a world full of obstacles. Nursing has been my career goal for the longest time because it is a career I see myself fully invested in due to my father’s cancer. My father is my number one fan and when he was diagnosed a few years ago, it only fueled my strength to continue with my desired career. Today he is in remission and living a healthy life with us inspiring me to begin a new chapter in my life. Both he and my mom are very proud of where I am at in my live and I want to continue making them proud.
No matter where life takes us, there are always obstacles everywhere we turn. This is
