Purpose and Benefits of a Career Map The purpose of a career map is to answer questions about the success of a chosen career. It is also used to outline levels of advancement, along with important skills and accomplishments require to achieve each level. A career map is a guide to success that gives multiple routes in case something fails in the intended direct path. A career path provides many benefits to an individual. One important benefit is that it can relieve stress about the future of one’s career. It provides a way to achieve short and long-term goals. A career map can lead to promotions and personal growth. And another important benefit that career mapping can provide is job satisfaction, it is important to be excited about the work one does instead of just working for pay. Creating a career map is extremely beneficial in the future.

It is a management tool that make sure that tasks are being achieved. Goals helps people to believe in themselves, it gives them inspiration to aim for things they never thought of as possible. Setting goals allows an individual to remain focus, measure progress and overcome procrastination. Specific and realistic goals for me include:
1. Obtain a B.S. in Accounting by May 2021.
2. Earn a minimum, overall GPA of 3.5 by graduation.
3. Join and participate in a minimum of three UNC Charlotte student organization, specifically a NPHC sorority, by December 2021.
4. Participate in a minimum of one major-related internship before May

Analyzing career theory is an important task, not only as an individual but also on a large scale. If everyone has the career they are best at and enjoy above all others, the world would be a much happier place. Imagine a world where each individual viewed work as not something they have to do, but as something they want to do. Productivity would increase at all levels. Charitable foundations and businesses would be abundant. Whereas this ideal may not be fathomable at this point, if each person used this information, it would be only a matter of time before we are moving in that harmonious direction.
You will most likely see career assessment and counseling in a broad range of employment settings. For example, mental health agencies, Veteran Affairs hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and school and college counseling offices. The most crucial types of career counseling measurements are interest, aptitude, and values better known as “the Big Three”. “ Other measures pertinent to career counseling include measure of career choice and development, such as the Career Maturity Inventory and Career Decision Scale. The different career assessment measures have been used to (a) increase client self knowledge, (b) help clients make career choices and (c) encourage client participation in career counseling” (Hays, 2013, p.16).

The career services professional supports the educational mission of a college by assisting students to develop, evaluate, and pursue career aspirations with the goal of securing employment. Career services professionals accomplish these goals with a range of programs, counseling and services designed to help students make the connection between the academic environment and the workplace.
