The evaluation of the results allowed for necessary changes to the curricula of the program, as well as changes to data collection. Some of the strengths of the data collection process were being able to assign a point system to the surveys which made it easier when trying to get an average satisfaction score for the camp participants. The thoroughness of the initial camp survey was another strong point in the data collection process. This initial survey helped the health mentors at Camp Wellness to better understand the current mental and physical state of the camp participants. Questions in this initial survey covered topics such as daily consumption of fruits and vegetables, tobacco use, exercise and eating habits, and other lifestyle habits. One of the weaknesses that stood right out to me was the fact that participation in the post-survey was completely voluntary. You may have a camp with 30+ participants, but if only 12 of them complete a post survey then you are not getting the true average of all of the participants. This could be problematic as results could be incorrectly seen as favorable, or unfavorable. This could cause changes to the program which would not really be necessary. This situation happened to me when conducting my first camp post survey. There was an individual who had been transferred between health mentors because they kept having personality issues. The participant told me that the health mentor in question was horrible, and did not know anything about the subject that they were teaching. While it is possible that the participant is correct, it is also possible that they were just trying to get back at the health mentor.
